What’s More Exciting?

April 16th, 2010 @ 10:47 am by Mrs. Starfish

What’s more exciting than planning a wedding? Planning a life together!

For a year and a half, Mr. Starfish and I have been planning our dream wedding. I have been oohing and ahhing over wedding dresses, venues, photography blogs, wedding blogs, all things nautical, cakes, stationery, DIY projects, decor, and everything that goes into planning a wedding. I didn’t think anything could be more fun.

Then, about a quarter through our engagement, Mr. Starfish and I started to look for a house. We looked for over a year before finding our dream home. To be honest, it was exhausting and I much preferred planning the wedding, until we found our dream home. Now my mind has shifted from wedding plans to life plans.*

Suddenly the registry is one of my favorite parts of planning! Good luck to everyone else in the hive going through the housing search! :)

Did you simultaneously go through two exciting life events at once? A baby, graduating school, a new apartment, new home, etc.?

*Don’t worry, there are still plenty of wedding plans and projects to come… it may just be at a slower pace!

I want a house too! Actually, I’d settle for an apartment with more than just one single room! Congrats, Starfish, that’s incredibly exciting!

Here’s our current list: FI finding a job (he got laid off), me graduating, me possibly finding a new job, AND finding a home together. All before our wedding in September! It’s really exciting isn’t it–like a whole new life!

Congrats! I want a house too! :) Instead, I decided to start a job search during my wedding planning. I start my new job on Monday! I’m so excited.

We got engaged in march of ‘09 and started looking for a co-op (not as exciting as an actual house, but a home nonetheless) during the summer. We closed on it in September. We are getting married this October. honestly, I find it more fulfilling to do house projects then wedding projects now! our home will be around for a while, our furniture and style will move with us, but I will only eat the wedding cake once, wear my dress once, and watch my diy programs be tossed away the day of. So, our home puts the wedding in perspective!

Congratulations on the purchase! It’s such a great time to buy - I wish we could be doing the same thing. Instead, we’ve got: both graduating from law school, both taking (and passing?) the Bar exam, moving out of our house, putting our stuff in storage for a month and traveling, and then finding a new apartment, getting married, and then both beginning new jobs. It’s going to be quite a year….

That is awesome! Since I’m still in grad school and we are going to move again when I’m done (and are putting off buying a house til then) we’ve been really mopey about our registry - realizing that we’re going to need one later, when we have a house to furnish, rather than now, while we’re still living the student life.

So glad it’s working out for you! And please post pictures of your new home! And your plans to decorate :D

I love your picture, it’s cute! We bought a house in August of 08, and I got 1/2 laid off from a job and then luckily found a new job right around the same time, so it was scary and exciting at the same time!

We’re currently relandscaping our backyard (tearing out shrubbery that is 20 years old and half dead and replacing with “nice looking things”), plus wedding planning, plus a vacation in a week, plus about 12 weddings to go to this summer. So, needless to say, weekends are currently at a premium.

In the last year we went through a him getting laid off, getting a new job, buying a house, our daughter’s birth, buying a house, and then got engaged. I’m pretty sure we can handle anything at this point.

Congrads on the new house though! I think my moment of relizing it was “ours” is when I figured out we could get any animal we wanted without having to pay a pet deposit or ask anyone’s permission. haha!

so exciting, congrats! I know what you mean - we’ve been living together for 3 years, but we are moving to the city and just picked out the apartment where we will start our marriage together and it was so exciting!

Yes, all within a month. We will close on our new house, I will graduate medical school, we will get married, and I will start a residency! It seems like every big life event is happening all at once (besides having a baby).

We’re in a similar situation — focusing on selling our current house/building a new one. And congratulations on finding your home! :)

We built a house and wedding planned at the same time. It was really awful. The permits were the worse but things worked out. The house is almost done and we didn’t get hitched. :)

Congrats!

As of last week, we have a signed contract on our dream house! And I totally agree, the registry is so much more fun when you have a house to decorate!

Congrats on the house! I totally know where you’re coming from with multiple exciting life events… May is going to be SUCH a crazy month! I’m beginning to remember why I originally didn’t want the wedding then… We’ve got finals, the wedding, graduation, the FI is working on finding a job, and we’re moving/driving across the country and finding an apartment all coming up and its SO hard to focus on any one thing! But it’s all coming together well, and, so far I’ve been able to keep my sanity.
