My first big shopping trip entailed Priscilla of Boston and Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier in one day. I had one of my bridesmaids and my two maids of honor - my sisters who played integral roles in The Proposal.
It was an early Saturday morning. I had planned the day as a “Bridal Sandwich”: brunch sandwiched by a morning and an afternoon bridal appointment. And now, I’m about to reveal myself as the true nerd that I am. Ta da! A slide presentation of our day of shopping:
Mr. Lobster - IF YOU ARE READING THIS, STOP HERE AND GO NO FURTHER OR ELSE…
First was Priscilla of Boston. I tried on about 10 dresses but was only allowed to take pictures of the final contender. It’s ivory satin dress with chiffon flower detail across the chest. I loved the fit and the flower detail but was uncertain if it looked somewhat messy and… floofily. I might be distracted all day by the feathery strands.
Our afternoon stop (after bacon pancakes, french toast sticks, and omelets) was Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier, a designer bridal boutique on NYC’s Upper East Side. Compared to other boutiques I’d visited, Mark Ingram’s dresses start at a higher price range. I was nervous that they wouldn’t have dresses in my budget and I’d be walked out dress-less. But the sales consultant Tammy was AWESOME. She was so nice and didn’t balk at my price range. I didn’t have pictures for her and let her run with it after I explained to her what I was looking for.
It was also the Carolina Herrera trunk show and I tried on some of her amazing design including the one below. Er, yes, by this time I realized that I felt least awkward posing with one hand on my hip. It was always there (count 5 times through this post).
Then Tammy brought out this Junko Yoshioka. It was everything I had asked her for - satin, sweetheart neckline, interesting detail in the pleats, folds, stitching, and just very clean and elegant. I thought, ‘Hey, this might really be the one.’
Did you notice how much happier I am in the photos at Mark Ingram? That’s because my amazing consultant Tammy made us feel so comfortable and would get excited with us about the dresses. She gave me the specifics of the Junko dress so I could come back when I made a decision. We hugged it out when I left.
A picture to commemorate the experience, shopping with my baby sisters!
I ended the day with happy memories and a decision to make. After 3 bridal appointments and 30 dresses, I had 2 contenders and lots to think about.
How many dresses did you try on before you found the one?
