Old and Borrowed

April 17th, 2010 @ 5:20 pm by Ms Potato Chips

I’m not too concerned with the whole old/borrowed/blue/new business, but I couldn’t help but realize that my jewelry accomplishes two out of the three!

I was already planning to borrow my mom’s strand of pearls, but I was looking for a way to jazz it up a bit.

Recently at lunch with Mr. Potato Head and his parents, his mom slid a glasses case across the table to me.

Inside was a beautiful strand of pearls that once belonged to Mr. Potato Head’s grandmother.

I was so honored to be given this “welcome to the family” heirloom! And what luck—the strand is identical to the one my mom has, only a bit shorter, so I can wear the two necklaces together. A symbolic joining of the family via the luminescence of pearls! Who says I’m short on sentiment??

What’s your take on old/new/borrowed/blue?

I also had two pearl necklaces of different lengths, and wore both in our wedding.

First of all, that’s one of my FAVE Vera Bradley prints! (the glasses case) and SECOND, I loooove pearls. The idea of blending the two families into one symbolically is so very sweet! Love love love!

Oh what a nice gesture–the 2 strands will look great together! ( My pearl strand has the same clasp! And I have the matching Vera Bradley wallet.)

How sweet! I’m kinda/sorta doing the old/new/borrowed/blue, but not actively worried about… If I remember it all, great, if not, oh well.

This is bad-I can’t really remember all of my “Somethings,” but I *think* these are them…

Old: My mama’s wedding band & e-ring
New: Dress
Blue: Rosette on my garter
Borrowed: Single pearl stud worn in my third earring hole
