Hello hive! I’m back again because, as Mrs. French Bulldog so sweetly reminded me, I didn’t do my honeymoon recaps! So for all of you considering Canada, a road trip, the mountains, or the beach as a honeymoon destination, I’m here to help.
Mr. Espresso and I did a road trip honeymoon through Vancouver Island in Canada. It was the perfect destination for a surfer like him and a mountain girl like me. We hit up Brentwood Bay, Tofino, Ucluelet, and Victoria. But before I get started, press play below for some background music—because what’s a road trip without music, right?
We stayed our first night at Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa.
I stalked this 5 star luxury boutique hotel for months on the Internet waiting for a deal. <y sleepless nights paid off, because I found a deal on Expedia offering an ocean suite room for $150 (they regularly go for $329 during that season).
Our room faced beautiful Brentwood Bay:
I loved sitting on our patio that morning thinking back on our wedding, excited about the trip ahead of us.

Before we left the hotel we had asked the concierge for some restaurant recommendations. We stopped at one along the river for lunch. It was so beautiful with floor to ceiling windows facing the river. Here we are posing in front of a random totem pole there. Isn’t my husband absolutely adorable?!

And then we were on our way to our next destination: Tofino

Tofino is about a five and a half hour drive from Brentwood Bay—and then factor in eating stops, sightseeing, etc… and you have at least 6 hours until you get there. For those of you who don’t like driving, there’s also a small airport in Tofino you can fly into.
We didn’t mind though, as we both love road trips. He loves to drive and I love to be a passenger, so it worked out perfectly.
We thought driving the distance would be a great way to experience a lot of Vancouver Island that we otherwise would have flown over.

Plus, it was my favorite kind of weather:

After about 2 hours of driving, most of the drive became mountain roads. Nonstop pine trees in every direction… gorgeous!

We battled the elements, kissed, snapped pictures…
We talked about our new house, our wonderful wedding, and the lush landscape around us…

And before we knew it, we were in Tofino.

Tofino is a charming and quaint fishing town located in the western center of Vancouver Island.

This place is seriously straight out of a Nicholas Sparks novel.
We dined at a cute little place called Schooner Restaurant.

And then explored around the town a little more:

The air just embodied the word “crisp”!

Even their shipping yards look clean and pretty:

The first time I heard of Tofino I was interning over at surf company in Huntington Beach. We had a surf camp here and I always enjoyed looking at the photos from their spot. I made sure to take a photo when we drove by for old time’s sake.

The actual town of Tofino can be explored in less than a day, but there’s plenty more to do around this part of the island… which is why I think this spot is perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing honeymoon/getaway!

Up next: We explore more of Tofino and head over to Ucluelet!
