Crafting the Perfect Getaway

April 20th, 2010 @ 4:46 pm by Mrs. Dolphin

There are so many ways to make the grand exit from your wedding. Mr. Dolphin and I have gone over several different ideas. This past summer I had to research our best budget-friendly options and report back to Mr. Dolphin (yes… we actually sat down and I presented my ideas and the prices for each). But before I reveal what we decided to go with, I thought I’d show off the grand exits of two of my very sweet bridesmaids at their weddings. Check them out:

A feather toss getaway? This would be Seminole Bridesmaid’s wedding (yes she went to FSU… but I still love her).

photography by Cannon Fire Photography

She had feathers in her bouquet, in the table centerpieces, and finished off the wedding with feathers being thrown at her and her groom as they hurried to their getaway car. Later she told me that she never told her reception location that they would be tossing feathers for fear they would tell her she wasn’t allowed to. They had quite the mess to clean up later! But well worth it for this shot. Can you spot Miss Dolphin in this picture?

And Gator Bridesmaid’s wedding? A bubble getaway with her FSU Groom. They had their reception in the hotel where they would spend their honeymoon night in.

Since they wouldn’t be having their grand exit to the car, why not have a grand exit to the elevator? So, Happy Bridesmaid (who you will meet soon!) and I were in charge of keeping the elevator open so Gator Bridesmaid and her FSU hubby could have their grand exit to the elevator and up to their honeymoon suite. I love how this turned out! :)

Now for the inspiration for Mr. Dolphin’s and my Grand Exit:

I just love bubbles… soo light and airy and fun for the kiddos! (Plus, no cleanup!)

I loveeeee Mrs. Lemonade’s golf cart getaway! Since we are getting married on a golf course and having our reception at a country club this would be the perfect getaway. I even found the same Martha Stewart “Just Married” banner on sale at Walmart on clearance. Score!

And our final decision on the send off? Bubbles. They were the cheapest, didn’t have a time constraint (like sparklers do) and are safe for the kiddies. We purchased bubbles at Michaels using a 40% coupon for each container (yes, I’m the coupon queen!).

Crafting the Perfect Getaway : wedding gainesville reception Bubble Michael’s Craft Store Bubble Wands

Michaels bubble wands came out to $15.33 for 108 wands (it took me a few weeks to collect them… I kept having to wait until my 40% coupons were valid, but it was well worth the wait).

As much I would have LOVED to do sparklers, they were just too expensive (around $50-70 for 100 that would last for 1-3 minutes). So, bubbles it is! I’m super excited about it and will be purchasing ribbon to tie at the ends of the bubbles. I also received a cute little basket at the Solutions Bridal Expo that I will be using to place the wands in.

Another thought I had was to use the bubbles as we walk back down the aisle as man and wife… what do y’all think?

Either way, there will be bubbles at our wedding for sure. :)

What are your getaway plans?

We’re thinking bubbles, too! Do you mind sharing the quality of the bubbles from Michaels? Do you get a lot of bubbles when you blow them/are they very colorful?

I’m trying to decide if I want to just buy them like this, or get a few gallons of bubbles and come up with the packaging myself. That might be more trouble than it’s worth : )

I bought the bubbles frommmmmm Wal-Mart, and it turned out great! The bubble quality was great and they are visible in the photos, and it was really fun. You can see the photos here:

We also got our bubbles at WalMart and had great results! I actually had people comment to me on how well our bubbles worked compared to other wedding bubbles - which made me feel a little less crazy, that I was not the only one who noticed :) ! The pictures from our departure ended up being some of our favorites!

Bubbles here too! And I got mine at Michael’s when they were on sale and there was a 15% off full purchase (including sale items).

if you want to have it done while you walk back down the aisle, make sure you communicate that to your guests. my friends had wanted that done at their wedding but we didn’t have a clue so they didn’t get their bubble exit

@Miss Dachshund: I’m unsure of the quality of the bubbles, but it was an easy buy and wasn’t something I had to think about all that much. Which was fabulous, because we have had so much to do!

Captivating Moments

We love the bubbles when the bride and groom are coming back up the aisle. We did this as a wedding last fall and the pictures turned out wonderful and it was just a beautiful feeling for the bride and groom to walk through that on their way out. They got married at a resort and so they didn’t have the big “exit”. This seemed like a good alternative that turned out amazing!

My sister did bubbles as they walked back down the aisle after the ceremony and it was awesome. I’m not sure if we’re going to do a big send off.

I love the look of the bubbles, but for some reason I have always been grossed out at soapy bubbles landing in my hair, on my skin, clothes etc… (I work with kids so I have to deal with this a lot, lol) and the thought of them bursting all up in my wedding done-up-ness makes me go, eeek!! Am I the weirdest or what?! Too bad, they are inexpensive and look so glam in those photos. Can’t wait to see yours!

I can’t grasp the logistics of the after ceremony getaway- can anyone explain? do you just sit at the altar and wait until the guests all go outside or what? HELP! Wedding is in one month, and I’m so lost, and I dont want to miss out on this classic photo op!

@alohababy28: Typically at the ceremony, when the officiant announces you for the first time as Mr and Mrs, you turn to face everyone, some happy joyous music starts, and you make your way back down the aisle together at Man and Wife. I think you can put signs on the bubbles, and have people in the crown alerting others on what to do. At my friends wedding people actually lined up on either side of the church on the outside and waiting for the new Mr. and Mrs. to exit to their waiting car. There are several ways to do it, you just need someone who will direct the crowd.
