Evolution of a Bride

April 20th, 2010 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Seashell

I’ve officially been a bride-to-be for 7 months. But, I’ll be honest—I’ve been planning my wedding for quite some time before then.

I wasn’t ever one of those little girls who ran around with a makeshift veil or played “wedding” growing up. In fact, I wasn’t remotely interested in boys into well into high school. That’s not to say I wasn’t a girly girl. Oh, I was.

I didn’t get the wedding “bug” until my mid-twenties. I was in a relationship that was headed in the direction of marriage. During this time, I began to buy wedding magazines and was soon after hopelessly hooked… The blogs, vendor research, piles and piles of idea clippings began to accumulate. But then that relationship ended, and my wedding research went on hiatus.

Time passed and I met Mr. Seashell.

After dating a few short months (er, weeks) the wedding bug had returned. (I’d dated several people between my almost-was fiance and my now-is fiance, but he absolutely fell into the category of “when you know, you know”.) I kept it quiet, but I started buying wedding magazines again, researching vendors, looking at blogs, and locating the wedding website of every engaged friend I could find and daydreaming away. I couldn’t get enough. It almost feels that I’ve been planning our wedding since the day we met.

When you met your fiancee did you just “know”? Or was it more of a process?

Aw.

It was a process for us as friendship and various life complications turned into the wonderful thing we have now.

…but I have also been planning my wedding for a WHILE ;)

Cute story! I think I knew after a couple of months of dating, but he was the only one I had the feeling with so it had to be right! haha! I didn’t start planning my wedding or looking at wedding magazines/blogs until a month after we got engaged! Eek!

Oh, we knew. I think the first reference to marriage was about 6 weeks in. (We were in the mall passing a tux shop, and messing with him I said, ‘need a tux’. He very seriously said… ‘Not yet, but you’ll be the first to know when I do.’ Awwww!

What a great story! It took me a while to know for sure, but once I felt like we really got to know one another we both knew where we were headed. No wedding magazines till weeks after the ring was on my finger, though :-)

This is going to sound absurd, but after about a week of getting to know him on a mission trip and having a casual conversation about our opinions on dating, he mentioned that he’s not the type of guy to date a girl unless he thought it would lead to marriage. Somehow I just knew then that it was very possible…not that I was completely sure, but it just felt…different somehow. Crazy right? We actually had a falling out for 6 weeks and I thought for sure I’d never see him again, but then the tables turned…and the rest is history.

I don’t think I’m a “just know” kinda person - didn’t have that feeling for my dress OR Mr. Hamster, so it was a process for us! :)

i NEVER EVER looked at a wedding magazine, website, blog, etc until i was engaged. I never really planned my wedding in my head either. I didnt want to jinx it. I wanted to live in the moment.

My engagement is 8 months. Now im pissed i never looked before i got engaged b/c its so much fun! Im happy my engagement is short b/c a) im ready to marry him and b) its too stressful. But i wish i had more time to look at all this stuff with purpose!

Um, I had most of our vendors selected before he popped the question (little did he know that’s the reason why all the initial planning was so “easy” - I’d spent the previous 3 months doing all the research and narrowing the possibilities!).

As crazy as it sounds, I knew after a couple weeks of dating my now-FI, that he was the one I was going to marry. A month or so later we would talk about the future and marriage and what those things meant to each of us. Roughly seven month later he proposed =). I never, ever thought that would happen to me - and in fact questioned those who moved fast in their relationships, but the truth is we both knew that we could stop looking for that one person because we had already found each other. When WE knew, WE knew.

I’m right there with you. My boyfriend and I have been together for a year. I’ve never even thought of looking at wedding stuff before I met him, but now I can’t help it!

I love hearing other stories of people who “knew”! Thanks, hive!
When Mr. Seashell saw all my wedding magazines under my coffee table I wrote them off as “bridesmaid research” which was a total sham.

We were good friends before we started dating. We talked about not wanting to blow up a perfectly good friendship by trying to go for more, and the level of sure-ness that we both expressed about wanting a deeper relationship just gave me the sudden feeling that we were going to get married.

Took a few years for either of us to say that that’s what we wanted, but here we are! :)

I felt like I knew what I was getting into with him — both strengths and weaknesses and felt that they clicked well with mine.

Haha. Well, we’re not officially engaged yet but, um, yeah, I just knew. I can honestly say I knew we’d date the first time I met him and knew he was the one after the first date. He says the same to me all the time. Now if only he’d put a ring on my finger!

we both knew fairly soon after being together, within 2 months of dating! now it’s just waiting for the money to be saved up so that ring can land.

When I met my fiance I knew, but I didn’t start wedding “planning” until we’d been dating for a year and a half.

I knew it after THREE days… :) I met him online, he was living several thousand miles away… we met face to face three months after meeting online and we’ve been together ever since. We are going to get married on the anniversary of our first face to face meeting.

And I’ve never been the romantic type, nor have I ever dreamt about my wedding let alone bought wedding magazines LOL
