Mrs. Cola's Picture
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

It’s started! The excitement of coming home from work every day to find little purple RSVP envelopes in our mailbox is so awesome. I had no idea how much I’d look forward to getting our responses back!

But then I realized that there is an annoying stamp on all of our RSVPs….which probably means it was also put on all our wedding invitations. Can’t see what I’m talking about? Here’s a closer look:

“2010 Census Mail It Back”

Can I just say, ewwww! Why’d you have to go and ugly-up all my pretty invitations, Post Office?

Has anyone else noticed this? Doesn’t the Post Office know there’s a whole world of brides out there who spend months putting together invitations, and don’t want them to become an advertisement for the census? Humph!

But on the positive side, I’m loving the nice comments on the cards inside the envelopes, and the fun of seeing who will be coming to our wedding. This is my favorite RSVP so far, from Mr. Cola’s parents:

Who else is excited about getting RSVPs back? And does the census stamp annoy anyone else?

Seriously, USPS?? And how cute are your future in-laws for embracing the Cola moniker?

how exciting!!

unfortunately, the only way to avoid the ugly stamp is to hand cancel - which is super annoying, can be expensive, or even impossible! :( boo usps!

Love that your parents are into the wedding planning! And I still love your invites despite the ugly ad to complete the 2010 census!

That census thing is BS. Sorry about that! But, the RSVPs are so cute, I love it!

Yeah, I don’t love the 2010 census stamp. But our envelopes are black, so the invitations didn’t get the stamp, just the RSVPs.

When I took my second set of invitations to the post office, they weighed heavier and required a 61 cent stamp instead of the 44 cent stamp we used on the first round. I guess their scales could be off, but shouldn’t the post office have some sort of consistency?

I think if you get your invitations hand canceled, they won’t have the census marking on them. That’s what I plan to do, if the post office lets me.

Hopefully they will be done plugging the census by the time I start mailing mine out! USPS - don’t be hatin’ on my outgoing mail. I already sent my census form in!

The PO lady actually offered to hand cancel mine for me, because we way overpaid on postage in order to get the matching king/queen stamps on them. I saw the hand cancelled ones at my FI’s grandparents, and it was just this delicate little red circle. It was kind of cute. I am sure the out of state ones still got marked up though.

I never thought I’d go crazy for hand cancelling, since when I started wedding planning I couldn’t even figure out what it was!

Oh and yes, every day the trip to the mailbox is exciting!

We are doing email RSVP because it worked so well for my sister’s wedding and since people more times than not don’t send back RSVP cards it’s saving us on the budget. If I did do the cards and had the printing up top I wouldn’t have cared though–it’s not like it was on the invite or something.

I JUST sent out invitations this past weekend — a little early, but mostly because I just couldn’t wait to start getting RSVPs back! LOL! (And boo about the census stamp.) =(

My fiance just got an wedding invitation. The bride had the cute king and queen stamp, but then the Census stamp over it. I had to giggle…so much for the effort of picking cute stamps! Then he pointed out that we used polar bears for our save the date cards…not really cute either.
