Ring Around the Hammies

April 20th, 2010 @ 12:22 pm by Mrs. Hamster

This past weekend, Mr. Hamster and I went shopping for our wedding bands. We both entered this task with definite wants (me: diamonds, him: simple) and emerged successful. I now present you with some ring porn:

Ring Around the Hammies : wedding nyc rings Wedding041 wedding041

My band of prong set diamonds, coupled with my engagement ring.

Mr. Hammy’s band with mine.

Mr. Hammy thought he wanted a plain white metal band, but the one he selected looks a little more modern on him. It’s definitely not your dad’s wedding band! (Unless it is, in which case, your dad has a pretty cool band.)

A bunch o’ rings.

I know that brides can spend a lot of time picking out that perfect wedding band, but we were unexpectedly efficient about the whole process. After a good 20 minutes or so of trying on rings, we had made our selections. The ring that Mr. Hammy chose fit him perfectly, and mine was re-sized on the spot. So wham, bam, thank you Hams! Our rings are done, check!

How long did it take for you to select and purchase your bands?

It took me about 5 minutes - I knew I wanted the matching one to my e-ring. We have yet to get FH’s band. I asked him to go next week.

The band that matches my engagement ring comes in a couple different styles, so I have to choose. I’m guessing that it will all come down to price ;)

The mister wants something simple :)

We walked into Fortunoff’s when it was closing. I handed the salesman my e-ring & he matched it. It was my size, the last one in the store & 70% off. Score! We still have to get FI’s. He wants something simple but with a Celtic design or with the claddagh in it.

We got ours on Amazon and chose them in about 10 minutes. I knew I wanted something very simple; to be honest I wasn’t even sure I wanted a wedding band. So I went with a plain white gold band, the same width as my ERing.

Mr. D had been eyeing a Tungsten ring on TitatniumKay, and they happened to sell the same one on Amazon, too. We’ll get them sometime this week… I hope we like them in person as much as we did online!

We went shopping three times for FI’s ring. He really wanted platinum but it was cost prohibitive so he ended up with palladium (still white, but a lot cheaper). He really couldn’t decide on a specific style, so we talked him into something. We got our rings from a friend of a friend that works out of her home so I’m sure we got a great deal.

My ring is being custom made to match my engagement ring, which I also designed. A nice element of knowing the jeweler. I knew I wanted a very simple band because I didn’t want to overshadow my engagement ring. I love my engagement ring and it’s cultivated diamond. I’m not a bling girl and I’m not a blood diamond girl.

We went band shopping this weekend as well! I want to check out one other store before making a decision. And we’ll be going to a family jeweler to make ours!

SO BEAUTIFUL!! i LOVE your set!! I actually work in NYC, do you use a specific jewler? We are looking to start using one that we can trust, then just buying from different jewlers in the future.

I’m normally the type of person who makes very quick (some might say impulsive) decisions. But when it came to my wedding band, I went to the store at least 5 times to try on and re-try on my favorite rings. Ultimately I needed to bring my mom along so she could help me choose the perfect band. And interestingly, the one I ended up with is one I had nixed on my very first visit! My mom persuaded me to try it on again, and she was right - it’s perfect! =)

I thought I had chosen mine, but I’m glad I let myself sleep on it. I ended up choosing a less traditional, but more “me”, ring that my FI and I had dismissed when we were in the store. After thinking about it for a couple of days, I just knew I wasn’t totally happy with the conventional band I thought I had chosen. For me, taking my time on that choice was worth it.

It took me a long time to decide on my band (s) bc I didn’t want a traditional set with a band that matched my e-ring…

Your band/wedding set is freakin gorgeous!

Duuude - you are so lucky that I didn’t steal your e-ring in Vegas… I <3 it big time! Great choice for the wedding band, you’re going to have one blingy finger :)
