About Mrs. Seashell

So, there I was. My vision of a black and white wedding wasn’t quite coming together, and the addition of gold wasn’t the perfect solution I’d imagined. Ugh. You’d think it wouldn’t be a big deal, but I was bound and determined to find something with an elegance and simplicity that had nothing to do with what I considered a fall cliche.

I searched and searched, and came across this little photo:

A Second Attempt at Wedding Colors : wedding color schemes providence Purple01 purple01

And, BAM! It was like a light switch flipped!

(OK, that was probably overly dramatic, but I was thrilled.) Purple! Elegant, rich, beautiful and slightly unexpected for fall. And Mr. Seashell is a total purple guy. He looks stellar in his purple dress shirts and we met at Northwestern—purple! I’ve always been a purple girl. Of note, I had a “purple party” when I turned four. All my gifts were wrapped in purple, all the decorations were purple and everyone wore purple. Purple perfection!

Now, of course, I didn’t want to go overboard with purple insanity. But the vision was starting to come together: ivory, gold, and touches of purple.

I asked Mr. Seashell his thoughts, and he thought it sounded great. I told Mama Seashell and she was totally thrilled. In fact, I think it was more like, “Oh, thank god you came to your senses!”

How did you decide on your wedding colors? Was it a process or an easy choice?

I am going to the purple route as well. Our wedding is outside with a TON of green. Trees grass etc. so I think we can’t get away with more purple. We are actually using several different shades to soften the whole look. I am really hoping it all comes together!

Sounds very elegant! I’ve jumped on the purple bandwagon too - “eggplant” to be precise, mostly to avoid the traditional autumn palette of foliage colors (not hating on you foliage brides, those colors are beautiful, just not for me!). I will still incorporate them, but not to the extent I would have to without my eggplant.

That sounds beautiful! I can’t wait to see how it all comes together. I know what I want as far as colors … but don’t have a clear vision as to how it may play out yet … int ime, I’m sure!

Ours was a hard choice, too! We ended up going a deep purple with black and white accents for our fall wedding, too! Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

I’m doing purple too. Plum, lime green and black. You could still do the black dresses you were talking about with purple. I saw the coolest inspiration board with black dresses and purple accents on style me pretty a while back.

Very pretty! I think ours were easy to come up with. I really wanted a bright pink color with something dark. I didn’t like the contrast of black and pink, and FI’s favorite color is navy, so that is what we ended up with.

Love that colour family! :) Doing “Spiced Wine” dresses from J.Crew (a kind of deep wine-almost-purple) - everything just flowed from there. Yay for Fall weddings!

I used Eggplant for my wedding last October. It was mainly the color of the bridesmaids dresses and a few flowers. Everything else was Fall Foliage based.

that sounds like a great color combo!

i picked out our wedding colors by infusing my favorite color with FH’s favorite color–hot pink for me, navy blue for him. the navy blue color is to symbolize his career as a sailor; our accent colors will be ivory and light green.

i guess when it comes down to it, the colors you feel most at home with are the colors you should choose for the most important day of your life.

I let my fiance choose the colors! I am a hardcore green girl - give me any shade of green, and I am a happy camper. My fiance choose the same deep purple you have, with accents of metallic mint green. I added in an accent of champagne, which is the color of my dress, and our colors were set!

I already told how I picked my wedding colors - similar to your way. I love this vibrant color of purple - violet!! This would have so been ours if a friend hadn’t used it 2 years ago!!

This sounds totally classy and beautiful! For us, I had always known that light blue had to be a wedding color, because I love light blue so much. When we decided on a summer wedding, we wanted a bold color to go with it (instead of a yellow or tan, which look great with light blue, but seemed a little too subdued for a summer wedding). I also didn’t want brown even though I love that combo, because it felt too “autumn” to me. I’ve been a big fan of vibrant orange lately, and since orange and blue are complementary, I decided to go with it. I love the way it’s turning out!
