Golf Carts and Weddings

April 21st, 2010 @ 3:08 pm by Mrs. Dolphin

Before I show you all these amazing pictures I found of golf carts in weddings, I have to give you a little back story on my relationship with golf carts.

I have a love/hate relationship with golf carts.

Have you ever heard of a bride having a love/hate relationship with golf carts? I know, it’s a weird thing to have. Although Mr. Dolphin and I will be getting married on a golf course and have golf carts as our vehicles from getting the wedding party from point A to point B, we aren’t incredibly big golf fans.

I really should explain a little background on by relationship with golf carts so you will better understand me.

It all started back in high school when we got our own golf cart. Why did we have a golf cart? I really can’t tell you why, because I have no idea, other then that it was something fun to ride around in. We would ride it to friends’ houses (that were just down the street), and to the park nearby. It also made an awesome ride for trick or treating in.

Yes.. we are wearing old dance costumes and I am sporting red Chuck Taylor All Stars. Don’t judge.

Well… when you are a teenager you tend to do stupid things. Isn’t that where they got the saying, ’young and stupid’? One day I did this to the golf cart:

I was a bad little Dolphin.

I learned my lesson on being stupid. I ended up in the hospital and now have rather large scars on my knees from sliding on the concrete (thank goodness Dickies work pants were trendy at the time, or I would have been hurt quite a bit more). It also ended my passion, dancing. My left foot still gets sore in certain shoes and when it rains (I blame it on an overlooked hairline fracture). After what happened, I completely avoided our golf cart at all costs. I touched up the paint from my stupidity and would wash it, but never drive it. I was just too scared.

So naturally, I was a little hesitant when we started talking about incorporating golf carts into our wedding. I have since calmed down a bit. Circular on ramps for highways still freak me out (I keep thinking our car is going to tip over). But, Mr. Dolphin has promised he will drive slow and take care of me. I trust him and know he would never want me to get hurt.

I have been looking around for tasteful golf cart wedding pictures (I don’t want a bunch of picture of golf carts at our wedding… but 2 or 3 would be fine). Here are a few I found that were relatively tasteful and sweet:

I love this picture because it captures that moment right before the bride arrives at the ceremony.

On a side note, I suddenly have the urge to get that cute little Vera Bradley overnight bag in the picture. Too cute!

Your story actually made me really happy, because I thought I was the only one to ever seriously injure myself on a golf cart. My friends and I were going too fast, and turned, and I fell out and fractured my wrist in three places. Oops!

I love all these inspiration photos. I guess our wedding is making me face my fear of being the center of attention. I won’t be able to hide behind anyone during the ceremony.

I love this post! We also were married at a country club and had a few golf cart photos - the fun photo ops will make conquering your fear worthwhile. =)

That will make for some super cute photos! Our hotel took us to our honeymoon suite on a golf cart. It was so much fun, I wish had pictures.

We’re having a golf cart for guests to use if they don’t want to walk to the bathrooms and to be honest, I’m kind of pumped about it…Haha!

I’m still learning to deal with anxiety, and it’s been helpful for me to have an escape plan in any situation - but there’s no escape when I’m up in front of everyone during the ceremony! So hopefully it’ll end up being a face-my-fears situation instead of just a FEARS!-situation!

@ILikePink: Thank you for making me feel less like a dumb butt!! I’m so glad I can relate to someone now!!!

@jordynrose: I have a ‘center of attention’ fear, and Mr. D LOVES being the ‘center of attention’ while I usually hide behind him. I was even nervous at my bridal shower!

@Mrs. Pug: Yes! I plan to conquer my fears, while telling Mr. D to please drive slow! lol

@Miss BBQ: You can do it! I plan to take lots of deep breaths and try and remember that this is a fun party with our friends and family and just have a good time. Hopefully I can tell myself all these things and not be a shaking, heart beating, red faced crazy person!

Awww I love the golf cart pictures. And, I drive one for work so I guess I kind of like them more than a normal person would. But…only the quiet electric ones that are speedy! ;)

That’s funny!

My university used golf carts for EVERYTHING since the campus was confined to city blocks. We even have a “golf cart parade” for homecoming since we don’t have a football team, and do soccer instead.

I think it will be great to have golf cart photos!
