Mrs. Hamster's Picture
Mrs. Hamster, New York City Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy Engagement Date: March 9, 2009 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Pierre Hotel About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
About Mrs. Hamster

I’m talking about our menu tasting, of course. What were you thinking of?

Choosing 5 appetizers, entrees and desserts to try at the tasting might have been the most difficult decision to-date in the wedding planning process. I mean come on, my answer to Mr. Hamster’s proposal was an obvious yes (awww). But choosing from a list of dozens of food options? Let’s just say - I believe they invented buffets for a reason. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it. So let’s jump right in, shall we?

Our guests will be starting with:

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas menutas

Smoked Salmon and Crepe Gateau with Paddlefish Roe, Cucumber Crème Fraîche and Sweet Pea Shooter

For the entree, our guests will have a choice of:

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas01 menutas01

Roasted and Sliced Chateaubriand, Anna Potatoes with Leeks, Pencil Asparagus Tied, Red Wine Sauce with Roquefort Cheese

Or:

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas02 menutas02

Classic Sautéed Dover Sole Meunière Style, Chateau Potatoes, Wilted Spinach

Side note: I’m usually a steak girl, but as Sole Meunière is the dish that Julia Child dubbed a “culinary revelation,” I had to try it. And it did not disappoint - it was seriously the best fish I’ve ever had! I’m really excited to order it again on the wedding day!

For dessert, we couldn’t decide between two choices, so we’re having both!

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas03 menutas03

Chocolate and Passion Fruit Dome served with Passion Fruit Coulis, Raspberry Coulis

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas04 menutas04

Coconut Lemon Mousse Dome, Passion Fruit and Vanilla Tapioca

Some other contenders we ultimately didn’t go with - it was such a tough decision!

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas05 menutas05

Enpe and Roquefort Salad with Watercress, thinly sliced Prosciutto, Champagne Vinaigrette

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas06 menutas06

Trio of Sweet Pea Shooter, Vegetable Couscous Napoleon and Warm Goat Cheese Timbale

We really liked the sweet pea shooter of this choice but also liked the salmon gateau - so our appetizer is a combo of both!

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas07 menutas07

Duet of Beef ~ Braised Guava Short Rib & Petite Filet Mignon, with Vegetable Succotash, Micro Greens, Truffle Oil

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas08 menutas08

Warm Chocolate Soufflé Cake served with Espresso Ice Cream, Fresh Berry Compote, Crème Anglaise

I've Been Waiting for This Day for a Long Time.... : wedding food nyc Menutas09 menutas09

Profiteroles served with Malted Milk Ball Ice Cream, Chocolate Fondue

Trust me, it was definitely difficult to turn down these options!

In the spirit of dessert fantabulousness, we will also have trays of petits fours (chocolate covered strawberries, mini lemon meringue pies, fruit gelees, fruit tarts and other goodies), cotton candy and gelato cones passed out on the dance floor and our wedding cake by Sylvia Weinstock (more on that later!). Yumm-o!

We were stuffed! The service at our venue was superb. Mark, who led the tasting, really understood our preferences and offered great suggestions to tailor the menu to our preferences.

Tell me about your menu tasting!!

Umm. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten food that looks this delicious. Like ever. I’m starting to think that a trip to NY that coincidentally coincides with your wedding date may be necessary.

Oh man.
