About Mrs. Lobster

I love wedding photography. It captures the genuine moments of a big day and every bride and groom looks flawless. Two of my favorite contenders during my search were CLY Creation and Bonnie Tsang. Both have great portfolios but with a different feel in color. Here are some examples:

CLY Creation. This small group of photographers hails from the West Coast but their studio is in Soho, New York. Their look is what I’d call photojournalistic with a vintage feel. Samples from their blog:

Bonnie Tsang Photography. Another West Coaster but based in LA. Her style has more of a vibrant feel. She has shot many New York weddings including more than one at our venue, Stage 6! Samples from her blog:

In my photographer search, I’ve found that looking at their blogs is the best way to get an accurate idea of their style. Albums and websites are good too but they generally feature the best of the best. Usually, the blogs are updated with highlights of each wedding they shoot so you can follow them week to week and even after you book them. :)

How did you do your photographer research? What do you like best about wedding pictures?

Wow - two very pretty options!

I basically went to Google images and wedding blogs and found images that moved me then worked backwards to find out who’d taken them. Photography was a “splurge” area for me so I entertained all comers. In the end I went with M(r)s. Cowboy Boots’ amazing photographer, so you could say WB was instrumental! :) Good luck picking!

I looked through my friends’ wedding albums on FB and saw the style and pictures the photographer took and that’s how I chose my photographer!

I agree, photographer’s blogs are the best way to get a feel for their work. Looks like you had it narrowed down to two fantastic choices!
I love the 2nd photo from the top of the bridal party in the park. So NYC!

My photographer is samoancuban photography. I L.O.V.E. them sooooooooo much! The photos are colorful, crisp, and lovely! I worry that maybe the folks in these photos just happen to be so beautiful and photographic, and ours might be just “eh.” Our e-pics are in June, so I’ll know pretty soon!

@Miss Seashell: I love that picture too! I hope we can do something similar on our wedding day.
@bohemianbailie: Weddingbee really has been a help in all my wedding planning too!
@redbullfanatic: that’s a perfect way to describe bonnie’s style. i love her photos
@ktbrady: I’m sure your photographer will capture the same beautiful moments in your e-shoot. I have the same worry but good photogs make it happen no matter what :)

I definitely stalked blogs. I was surprised to find so many photographers whose portfolios were inconsistent with the full spreads on their blogs. People often selected their best work for the portfolio (makes sense), but these were gems in what seemed like a generally lackluster series. Our photographer is amazing and her work quality is consistent throughout her blog/website/etc.

@jordynrose: I also stalked blogs. I also asked to see full portfolios of weddings to get the fell of the photog, as I too knew that they put the ‘best of the best’ photos on their blog, and sample wedding highlights on their webpage.

I stalked blogs for such a long time, even prior to getting engaged.
