Cute Cutlery

April 22nd, 2010 @ 5:06 pm by Mrs. Hot Dog

After seeing Mrs. Poodle’s post about her silverware project, I was in love. The bamboo would go SOO perfectly with our rustic theme! Then I read that she had tons left, so I went ahead and bought them from her! :)

Usually, I try to be completely creative in my DIY. But her idea was so amazing, I totally had to copy. I did add my own little twist, though. ;)

First I gathered all the supplies: silverware, recycled paper napkins, stamps and brown ink, and some raffia.

The steps are all pretty self explanatory, but here I’m gathering the pieces together…

… folding the napkins…

I decided to add a little more detail to them and stamped our initials on the top handle of each one. If I owned a Gocco, I would TOTALLY have Goccoed the napkins. But, alas, that amazing tool is missing from my arsenal. Boo.

Anyway, I’m excited about how they turned out. And it did a great job of making me feel a little more on top of my to-do list… hehehe. Also, I feel good about this project because with the bamboo biodegradable cutlery and the recycled napkins, we’re doing our part to be a little more green!

How have you lessened your carbon footprint during the wedding planning?

Pretty. : ) I like the wooden cutlery. If we were still doing our picnic wedding, it would have been so perfect.

So cute! I’m considering using the woodware too, just unsure about the taste they have (like popsicle sticks). Let me know if you have any complaints.

Very cute… although, if I was a guest at your wedding and saw how you put them together… I’d be worried with how you layed the utensils out on (dirty) carpet… yikes. No?

@Mr Clean…that was exactly what I was thinking! I am a germ freak though, perhaps others won’t mind.

LOL it IS clean, freshly shampooed. And I didn’t actually roll it on the floor. I just didn’t have a big enought surface to spread it all out on a table. So it was only on the carpet for about 2 minutes. But I could see how it looks icky! Sometimes I don’t think about things like that *blush*

I repeat, they were only on the carpet for picture taking for 2 minutes.

Love them!
I have eco-wear cutlery and I’m trying to decide the best way to package it. This is a contender!

PS. As a guest I wouldn’t give a damn if you assembled them on your carpet. It’s not like you dipped them in the toilet!

Where on earth did you get that large bag of rafia?!?! I’ve only been able to find it in spools and it completely takes away from the “natural” / “rustic” look of the material…

We really wanted to use bamboo cutlery as well but we couldn’t find any that was within our budget. I love how you stamped your initials on them (we’re C & A too- I’m A, the FI is C).

What kind of plates are you using?! We bought a bunch of these and my fiance said “We’d be eating with Popsicle sticks?!” in an exasperated sort of way. He says it would look too cheep right next to white china dishes. Are you pairing it with china, or something else?

Fi and I are thinking about these for our wedding, have you had a change to use them? I was wondering how well the fork tines work, they do not seem that sharp and would be more like a spork

we just ordered our eco-friendly silverware last weekend! i’m so excited to see someone else using them. my mom was iffy at first, but she quickly saw the vision. we only got forks (spoons and knives are not necessary for our dinner selection), but i’m thinking of wrapping them up with the napkin like this. for those who are wondering we bought our forks here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Eco-friendly-disposable-forks-cornstarch-pack-200-/250530053725?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a54c13e5d. also, we ordered our bamboo plates here: http://www.simplysmartliving.com/search.asp?keyword=bambu&search=GO.
