About Mrs. Seashell

Shockingly, after all my distress and reasoning for having the girls pick their own dresses, they actually asked that I give specific guidelines. Silly me, all that worry over nothing. Go figure. So, first stop: J.Crew.

Color: Spiced Wine

Pretty, but no. The “sweet thistle” is too spring-y and the “spiced wine” is definitely not a rich purple. Next? Ann Taylor. Struck out: no purple.

Then I made an appointment at Bella Bridesmaids. It was a great salon, the people were sweet, they had a good selection of dresses but I just wasn’t didn’t find anything that made me think, ‘Perfect!’

Then I found Anna Elyse. Hello, gorgeous! Beautiful shades of purple, amazing variety, nice sense of cohesion. Love it!!!

And wait - Bella Bridesmaids carries their line? How did I not see these lovelies? I immediately called my local store and asked about Anna Elyse dresses. They explained they’re temporarily not being stocked due to an ongoing problem with the cut of the bustline. I guess that explains it, so I was back to the drawing board…

But then, little did I know, the best was yet to come. How was it possible that I did not know of the amazing world of Dessy? OMG! Bridesmaid dress heaven! I immediately took to the style boards, put together ideas, and emailed my girls this as the inspiration for their dresses:

Perfection achieved! Unique, richly colored for fall, and simply beautiful! My email to my bridesmaids was most definitely appropriately titled, “Dress Nirvana!”

Was finding your bridesmaids’ dresses a big moment?

With dresses like those I would be worried about the bridesmaids looking better than the bride.

I found it difficult, personally. Feelings/budgets/personalities to balance out, but I think everyone ended up pleased at the end.

Love Dessy! Those are beautiful dresses. The first Dessy dress in the pic comes in white and long and I wanted it as my reception dress but ran out of time. I would love to know how Dessy works out for you! I have hear good things.

I fell in love with the Anna Elyse designs too, but I just couldn’t bring myself to ask my BMs to spend that much on a dress. They are definitely gorgeous, though!

I told my girls to pick their dress. My only guidelines were that it had to be black and it had to be on the formal side. They ending up picking something that they all fell in love with and looks gorgeous on all of them!

I was super happy when we finally worked it out, I spent waaaay more time obsessing about their dresses than about my own! Two of my girls are wearing the J.Crew dress you posted in Sweet Thistle and two are in the blue. The sweet thistle is actually a bit darker in person than in the photo (but still pretty springy)

Bummer those Anne Taylor colors weren’t right, I love that dress.
Be careful with After Six from Dessy… my BM dresses are from them and the quality of the dresses are really bad.

I’m going to give my Bridesmaids free reign over the dresses!!! I’m going to say navy and maybe a certain material, but with all different shapes and sizes it can be hard to please everyone! I personally don’t care if they walk down the aisle in navy jumpsuits, all I want is for them to be standing beside me as I have the most important moment of my life.
