A Weekend of Tuxes and Diamonds

April 23rd, 2010 @ 4:15 pm by Mrs. Dolphin

A few months ago we decided to try and tackle the Priest (sorry for the football pun) and the tuxes. We have an extensive checklist that we made (which is taped to the wall in our dining room) and have been slowly checking off all the items. One very important item on the list was tuxes for the groom and groomsmen.

We went to Men’s Warehouse and picked out the tuxes for Mr. Dolphin and his groomsmen. Mr. Dolphin was so sweet and modeled the two combinations for me (since I’m a very visual person). :)

Mr. Dolphin is wearing the Groomsmen’s tux.

The Groomsmen will be wearing an ivory shirt (since my dress is ivory), and a pool vest and tie to match the bridesmaids’ dresses, along with a Calvin Klein tux. The tux is specially made to be as cool (temperature) as possible, which is good, considering our wedding is outside in May at 5 in the afternoon. Can you say hot?
*Note: The jacket is way too small and Mr. Dolphin needs a haircut and to shave his face. Don’t judge Mr. Dolphin’s hotness from these photos.

Mr. Dolphin is modeling what he will be wearing when we tie the knot. I originally wanted him in a color, since we are both very cheerful and bright people. But, the saleslady some how convinced me to go with all ivory. I was skeptical but once he had it on I was pretty happy. Boy, does he look sharp.

*Yes, Mr. Dolphin is wearing khaki shorts. It is Gainesville. It is hot… and it is game day. What can I say?

Men’s Warehouse also had grey suits for rentals, which I would have LOVED for Mr. Dolphin and his groomsmen (check out my inspiration for it here) to wear… or even khaki suits. But, Mr. Dolphin would not budge on wearing a black tux. Which, in the end, I’m very pleased with.

We also dropped by the mall to check out some wedding bands. We found one that matched my engagement ring PERFECTLY! I couldn’t believe it. The round diamonds and baguettes lined up perfectly with the ones on my engagement ring.

Mr. Dolphin ruled it out and said we should continue looking and take a trip to Orlando to some jewelry stores. One problem with the wedding band is that you couldn’t specify the clarity of the diamonds since it was a ’stock’ setting. Mr. Dolphin says he wants the diamonds to be as perfect as possible. We always noticed that with my engagement ring, the side diamonds are not as sparkly (it was a stock setting) compared with my center diamond (hand picked by Mr. Dolphin). He always says to me that he wants to make sure we get exactly what we want, which makes sense since I’ll be wearing the ring for the rest of my life. That is a long time to wear something we’re not happy with.

Did you and your hunny disagree on his attire? Who ended up compromising? You or your Boo?

Mr. Dolphin looks great! We completely agreed every step of the way because I’m all for the guys being comfortable especially since I’m all about comfort.

I don’t know, Mr. D may be starting a tux top-khaki short trend in the wedding world. :)

We haven’t gone tux shopping yet (which we really should - ASAP!). But Mr. Dolphin is looking good in the tux!

OMG I’m so glad you posted this! This is exactly what my groomsmen and my fiance will be wearing on our wedding day (exactly one week from tomorrow–eek!) and I’ve never seen it put together. Looks great and you’ve made me feel very secure with my choice :) Mr. Dolphin is adorable.

@Rubrowneyes: Glad I could help. After selecting these tuxes (with the ivory shirt) I have debated over it for weeks, but have decided it is the best, and to trust my first choice.

@sboston06: Yes… they had a Christmas tree, this is how we roll in G-vegas (aka Gainesville). lol.

Very nice! We went with their brown tux and mermaid vests and tie. You would not believe the flack I got from the guys about the name of the color! “YOU are making ME wear MERMAID!!!” It ended up looking really good though!

Ok, Men’s Wearhouse actually had tuxes for Mr. D to try on!?! We just went last night and they made it sound like they don’t have tuxes for people to try on since they are being dry cleaned and stuff so often. I was so bummed!! Maybe we need to try a different MW location? Love the ivory on ivory look btw!

Um, I will judge Mr D’s hotness by these photos and say “Hottie with a capital H!” Well done :)

@Miss Jellyfish: I think the tuxes were ones that were on the mannequins, they definitely weren’t in his size, but they worked to help me invision the combinations! For sure, try another MW!

The salesperson at our MW tux place also talked us into the ivory on ivory thing for my groom too! I was so glad to see your groom’s picture because our location wouldn’t let him try them on so I was having a little trouble visualizing, so thanks!
