Mrs. Taco, San Francisco Age and Occupation: 29, writer/editor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 37, editor Engagement Date: May 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: The Green Room at the War Memorial Veterans Building About Me: I like laughing and talking with good friends over good food and good drink, be it wine, cocktail, or brew. I write and edit things for fun and profit, but I rarely "write" these days without a keyboard and high-speed internets. Favorites include Mr. Taco, my Boston terrier, San Francisco, getting out of town, and the Roaring ’20s. I was kind-of planning a wedding since roughly 2006, when I discovered "Whose Wedding Is It Anyway?" on the WE channel. I ran and didn't look back with a theme I called "urban vintage," and it culminated in the most magical day a taco could ask for.
About Mrs. Taco

Clippity-Clip

April 23rd, 2010 @ 6:16 pm by Mrs. Taco

My wedding shoes are loud. Our venue has hardwood floors. We’re not having an aisle runner.

Before we get to the gist, let’s have a look at these fabulous shoes again because, goddamn, I love ‘em:

So, you can probably see where this is going.

How do I get these shoes to quiet down? I bought some black felt at the craft store, since someone on the interwebs suggested gluing small pieces of black felt to the bottom. But if there are any other bright ideas out there in the hive, I’m all for them.

Meanwhile, I’ll be clippity cloppping all over my apartment to break them in.

You can have rubber added to the bottom of the shoes. Works famously!

I’m not sure how to make them quieter but I’d be careful with felt cos they might become very slippery. I think I’d prefer to clip clop down the aisle than slip down it!

Hi Miss Taco,
Sorry to be nosey, I saw this on Google….
I’m an ex-dancer, and I find that the felt does work to quiet noisy heels, but make it thin felt, and if you’re worried about slipping, spray it with a tiny bit of hairspray 15-20min before going down the aisle…. it’ll provide just enough tackiness to give a bit of traction.
Good luck!

they have suede patches for dance shoes - those might work too?

Any good shoemaker can add a 1/2 sole of rubber to the ball of the shoe and a rubber heel .

If you want a cheap option, both Bakers Shoes and Fab Feet (I’ll include some links below) make self-adhesive non-slip pads for the bottom of your heels. This might help a bit because it wouldn’t be the bottom of your heel hitting directly on the wood floor anymore (and it wouldn’t be slippery like felt), but they aren’t really padded…so you might want to check out a Bakers or Target (where I know they carry Fab Feet - in their shoe department) to see what they look like in person and if they might help your situation. I think the ones I got at Bakers were only about $3.99 and I think Fab Feet at Target are about the same price or cheaper. Also, if you are worried about noise from the back stiletto heel part too, you could try Soul-mates. Just some ideas for you. Hope you find a good solution.

When I used to dance I would take my shoes to a shoe maker and have them put suede on the bottoms but that was to help me slide more so be careful with that….it gets very slippery. I’d try the rubber like the above person said.

Thank you everyone for your helpful suggestions! Will definitely post whatever I decide.

@tweds: I’m still so paranoid that it’ll be too quiet, making ca-thump, ca-thump that much more obvious!

I’m not sure to fix the loudness problem, but I must say, those are some damn sassy shoes! Love ‘em! Great choice.

walmart sells little rubber nonslip pads that you can stick on the bottom. I used them for my wedding because I didn’t want to fall. But I think they quieted my shoes down too.

I think a cobbler could fix that. Also, totally ordered those shoes (I’m such a biter!). I think they might be a bit tall for me, but I love them so.

So you could have dance rubber put in the bottom of your beautiful shoes, but it does compromise the look a bit (in my opinion). I like a pretty leather sole :) However between dance rubber an felt please get the rubber- as a few ex-dancers have said, the felt makes your shoes extra slippery! I also really like the grip pads you can adhere to the bottom of your shoe- target/Nordstrom/DSW all have those. And finally (a trick of my trade for sure) Hush Heels! They are little pieces of padding for the ball of your foot/heel and we use ‘em to make loud shoes sound friendly for film…you can probably order them from Western Costume Co in LA or pm me and I’ll send you some! :)

felt might get slippery on the hardwood! i would be careful and test this out with double stick tape instead of glue first!

In high school theater, I used duct tape over thin cotton balls. I made sure to scratch up the duct tape with scissors to make sure it wasn’t slippery. I don’t know if you want to do that to such pretty shoes though!

Spray on latex should do the trick. It’s what we use backstage on the ladies heels.
