Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FL Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer Engagement Date: February 14, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... About Mrs. Dolphin

The search is on!!!

I have been scouring the ‘net for the perfect dress, and since I’ve found my wedding dress, finding the rehearsal and bridal shower dresses are the next best thing!

Our rehearsal is being held on the golf green at the country club Mr. Dolphin and I will be married at, along with a poolside dinner out on a beautiful deck overlooking a lake (okay… it’s more of a man-made pond… bear with me here).

Okay… so this isn’t the exact location on the golf course we will be married at, but it does give you an idea for the area, and how incredibly beautiful it is. You can see how Mr. Dolphin and I fell in love with this place. Did I mention it also used to be the site of a theme park in the 1970s, complete with teacup ride and ferris wheel? I’ll save that for another post!

Our rehearsal dinner location. Pretty amazing, right?

We are planning for some good Southern food with pulled pork, corn on the cob, pasta salad, apple cobbler for dessert (Mr. Dolphin’s and my favorite) and Malibu Bay Breezes for drinks, along with iced tea and lemonade. We really wanted something informal and fun, where we can mingle and just hang out with our friends and family.

Now that I’ve given you an idea of the ’scene’ for our rehearsal dinner, it’s time for some dress ideas!

But, before I lead you through a ton of dresses I have been looking at to fulfill my need for the perfect little rehearsal dinner dress, I must introduce you to the very first rehearsal dinner dress I bought.

My first love…

The Search for the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner Dress : wedding dress gainesville Screen 071 Phoebe Dress

Phoebe Petal Dress, Out of Stock… everywhere

This dress was ’the one’ for the rehearsal dinner… or so I thought. When I first saw it I ordered it immediately… and so did every other women in the United States {sigh}. I was so upset when I got the email from Nordstrom that my beautiful Rehearsal Dinner dress was sold out and they would not be shipping her to me. But… as my mom always says, “if it isn’t meant to be, it isn’t meant to be.”

And so… the search begins…

The Search for the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner Dress : wedding dress gainesville Screen 072 Bushing Faille Dress

Blushing Faille Dress, Anthropologie, $188

Mr. Dolphin’s and Seminole Bridesmaid’s current favorite. I have to agree. It is quite fabulous. But the price… not so fabulous. :(

The Search for the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner Dress : wedding dress gainesville 5911302 Donna Morgan Dress

Donna Morgan Silk Chiffon Dress, Nordstrom, $138

I like this dress a lot. But, I feel this is the type of dress I always go for… which is probably why I like it so much.

The Search for the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner Dress : wedding dress gainesville Screen 073 Aidan Mattox Dress

Aidan Mattox Dress, $158.39

Can’t you just image this dress poolside, flowing in the wind? How beautiful!

The Search for the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner Dress : wedding dress gainesville Screen 074 BCBG Laser Cut Dress

BCBG Laser Cut Dress, $119.90

I’m a sucker for the laser cut dress. I included this dress in the mix, because I sort of like it… but I’m pretty sure it isn’t the one.

The Search for the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner Dress : wedding dress gainesville Screen 075 Nicole Miller Dress

Nicole Miller Dress, $160

This dress may have a little too much going on… but I like it quite a bit. :) I originally saw it on sale at Rue La La and almost bought it on the spot. I think I should have… because it was way cheaper than it is now.

Veve Georgette Dress, $215

Okay… so the dress price is a little high again, but I love the way this dress looks from the front and back. Maybe if I stalk it online long enough it will go on sale even more (it was originally priced at $430)!

Nostalgia Dress, $89, Etsy

This dress is super cute and comes in 50 different colors. I’m actually thinking this may make for a really cute bridal shower dress in poppy yellow (since I love anything Daisy). Plus, purchasing this dress is helping a small business owner grow their business since it is handmade. It’s a good price, AND helping the artist community—what more could you want? :)

Here are a few other dresses by Nostalgia on Etsy. All are $89, and are made to order:

As you can probably see, I can’t seem to make up my mind whether to dress more formal in champagne, or dress more casual, in a light and flow-y printed dress. For me, I think I would feel the most comfortable in a light and flowy dress. I love the long blue printed flowy dress above, and would love to wear something similar in a shorter style.

But, seriously. I really need the help of Weddingbee readers this time. What should I wear? Do y’all have any suggestions on sites to look at or dresses you have seen?

I vote for the Nostalgia dresses! Short and cute but won’t get caught in the wind. The yellow is wonderful! I think dressing a little on the casual side is the way to go, due to the outdoors setting. I’ve also seen a lot of rehearsal pics where the bride looks way more formal than her guy, and while that’s not horrible, it is a little funny to me. What is mr. dolphin wearing?
Also, I would check out Target’s dresses online, even just for inspiration! Right now they are organized by sleeve type, which I love.

I always check out Forever 21 for any cute dresses they have in stock. The quality isn’t the best, but since it’s really only for a special occasion, the price is SO right.

I have just spent the past couple of days searching for a little black dress… I have to have solid black for an event… and I’ve seen some beautiful dresses in the Nordstrom website and Saks that are just so very elegant! I tend to vote for elegant and special because this is a once in a lifetime thing!

Any chance you live near Chicago? I just saw the Phoebe Petal Dress (and tried it on! I thought it was darlingggg! but not the right size) at the Nordstrom Rack in Downtown Chicago. It was a size 8… Can’t remember the price…
maybe call around to Racks around you?
Sorry if that made moving on from the dress worse!! :(
Good luck w/ the search! I just saw some wonderful nanette lepore dresses at Nordstroms that are similar in style but can’t seem to find them anywhere online yet…

Go for some color. I don’t care for white dresses outside of the bridal arena and I can’t imagine wearing a white dress ever again after the whole wedding event has come and gone. I think you’ll be happier if you invest in a dress with color that can be truly worn again. My two cents!

Nordstroms has the petal dress in lilac if you aren’t set on white!

The Nostalgia dresses are both formal and fun and cheaper than the Anthropologie dress (which I also adore). BUT, if you went the Etsy route, do you have time to get it made for you? (not to put on the timeline pressure).
I was just in Anne Taylor LOFT last night and they have some REALLY gorgeous reasonably priced candidates

That anthro dress is my RD dress!!!!! It’s sooooo pretty and looks better on than on the hanger!! I’m sure you prolly wrote this a while ago and already have your RD dress but I got it on sale for $90 about 2 weeks ago, if you’re still looking! Either way, you have great taste, my dear :)

You mentioned that the Nostalgia dress comes in 50 different colors. Is it possible to get it in champagne? It’s similar in style to the Anthropologie dress, so it could have the same feel, especially if you, Mr. Dolphin and your bridesmaid like it.

Too bad about that dress - it is adorable.
Just to throw something else in the mix, Ann Taylor has some nice options, especially in their bridesmaid dress section.
