Proposing to My ‘Maids

April 26th, 2010 @ 9:17 am by Mrs. Seashell

I love the trend of brides finding a special way to “propose” to their bridesmaids! When I decided to ask my girls, I hadn’t heard much of the idea. In fact, I thought I was so cute and original (pat self on back). Original or not, I think it’s wonderfully thoughtful and sweet.

Here’s what I came up with: Simple white boxes from PaperSource stuffed with purple tissue paper, clippings from bridal magazines, Ghirardelli chocolate squares, and personal notes with hand stamped gold sparkly rings asking each girl to be a bridesmaid.

Did you propose to your bridesmaids in a unique way? How did you do it?

I made them “Team Library” T-shirts to wear during the wedding weekend! They were awesome!

Cuuuuuuuute! I didn’t find out about this idea until after I’d already asked my friends…Bummer!

I bought these beautiful Tiffany blue cards from Etsy that said “will you be my bridesmaid?” on the front and handwrote a note inside. I’ve only given one out so far, but she flipped! The cards are so pretty.

How cute is this!? I asked each of my gals in a different way. My favorite was when I asked my attorney sister to be my MOH by having one of her colleagues draw up a “MOH contract”. It looked all official, but included all kinds of goofy stuff, like a non-compete clause (where she couldn’t be a MOH for any other weddings within a 6 month time period and 30 mile radius). My sister thought it was great!

My “ask” didn’t look as spectacular as this, but I think it was well-received. My partner and I both wrote notes to the members of our wedding party and to thank them for being good friends and explain why we chose them to stan-up for us at our wedding. I got more than one teary call afterwards. (We did buy cute custom letterpress cards from Etsy, though :)

So cute! I found out about this idea after I had asked half of my bridesmaids. So half got a lame phone call and the other half got cards…separate groups of people so hopefully the half that got a phone call doesn’t find out. Shhh!

ADORABLE! I wish I had sent chocolate as well :)

Little Lady Company on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleLadyCompany) makes ADORABLE bridesmaid invites, she did a great job and my ‘maids loved them! She also made one for my brother, since he’ll be standing up with me, and changed the card to be less girly and even sent along a gray envelope instead of a pink one. I can’t recommend her any more highly!!!!

I did it a little differently for each of the 8 as well. I took my sister out to tea at the Four Seaons and had a card and a book for them (A MOH book and a MOB book) My sister had never been in a wedding before and was stressing. I took a few of the girls out to a chocolate buffet and the further away girls got cookie cards with a poem asking them to be my bridesmaid.

I found these little white metal mailboxes at Target, then decorate them with Valentine’s Day stickers and puffy paint. Put their name on each with 3D Valentine’s stickers. Put a Valentine’s Day dish towel in there with some candy, and also a little foam tag that read “Will you be my Bridesmaid/Maid of Honor/Matron of Honor?” They were adorable - if I do say so myself! :)

Adorable! I make magnet puzzles that were a photo collage of me and each maid, and sent it to them with a lovey covey note. FI incorporated a puzzle into our engagement, so I thought it was a nice way to incorporate the theme.
