Mrs. Lobster's Picture
Mrs. Lobster, Brooklyn Age and Occupation: 29, Finance Girl Fiance's Age and Occupation: 33, Finance Boy Engagement Date: July 25, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Stage 6 Steiner Studios About Me: I'm a New York-born, Virginia-bred girl who's found her way back to the big city. Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! We are planning a fancy-pantsy Brooklyn wedding for a hot New York summer night which is sure to be a misadventure in the making.
About Mrs. Lobster

Help! I have nothing to wear (for our engagement shoot). Imagine a springtime hot summer setting on a tree-lined, cobblestone street with old New York buildings in the background. Mr. Lobster and I want to be ourselves, but our *fabulously* casual selves (not the grubby couch-clothed-selves we usually are). As with most of my shopping ventures, the first place I went for inspiration was Anthropologie.

First up, a casual summer dress with long navy sash. The best part - pockets! (For snacks, of course.)

Dotted Greetings Dress

Second, a form fitting polka dot dress with grosgrain ribbon. I love this dress but heard patterns don’t do well in pictures. What do you think?

Polka-Peppered Dress

What about this blueberry Diane von Furstenberg dress? This is a little dressier than the others but I love the model rockin’ it with gold gladiators.

Then there’s Etsy for true vintage outfits. I am hearting the neckline and the low back.

Another cute dress from Thrush. Maybe it’s too fancy for an e-shoot, but cute for say, a rehearsal dinner? Admit it, you are totally crushing on that BOW even though when we were kids we hated wearing dresses with bows.

Or… this one. Haha, it’s like it was MADE for the Lobster shoot! (Zoom in for crustaceans.)

What do you think of these dresses? Do you see anything that would be great for a fabulously casual e-shoot?

I’m no help at all cause I seriously love all of them! I think you can rock any of them and pull off wonderful photo shoot. I am leaning towards:
#2, 1, and 3, in that order. I think the stripes with pink accents would look fab cause it accents your waist. But both the 1 and 2 are close for me. I actually prefer #1, as a dress it’s really, really pretty, but I just think #2 would be more photo flattering.

I wonder about the flow of the Etsy dresses in pictures. Though they’re really cute, the wrinklablility might be a problem.

Really lovely dresses!

Loved the first dress, but I think the Etsy dress is more “you” (as if I totally know you…).

The first one caught my eye…but I’m always tempted to advise for solid colors!
But really, can you say no to the lobsters? ;)

Okay. Great options! I love the DVF dress and the first Anthro dress the best (with that cute vintage dress coming in just behind, esp. if you added a belt!)

The polka dot one is super awesome, but does do funny things to my eyes and might/will do so in pictures too!

You’d look awesome in any of ‘em though! Love. Can’t wait to see what you pick!

LOVE the 3rd and 4th dresses! I think the 4th one would be better for an outdoor summer shoot though.

Our photographers actually answered the “what to wear” question on their blog. See the link here:

i really like the first etsy dress because of the cute front and killer back neckline, but really they’re all adorable.

The first one with the long navy sash - shut UP - loving that dress. Must find way to convince Frogger I need that dress. :)

My vote goes to DVF, even if it is a little dressier.

They’re all adorable, but I think the DVF is my favorite. I personally like a solid color in photos because patterns can be a little distracting.

I kind of LOVE the lobster dress. It’s my favorite….for real. It has a super cute cut to it and is the most visually interesting and cute one of the bunch!
