The Organized (Modern) Bride

April 27th, 2010 @ 12:06 pm by Mrs. Seashell

I always thought I’d be the kind of bride lugging one of these things around everywhere I went:

The Organized (Modern) Bride : wedding providence resources 415qa9x01 415QA9X01

(source)

But, alas, I haven’t so much as bought one wedding-organizing-anything. It’s so not me! I imagined papers, receipts, and magazine snippets clogging a (neatly) overstuffed wedding binder. I just adore folders, labels, paper clips, and ultra fine point Sharpies. The just make me smile. I’m smiling as I write this.

So, where’s all my “stuff” you ask? Right here:

Notice the purple?

Jump drive: the perfect solution for a traveling bride. I’ve got the gazillion photos I’ve pulled from various blogs and websites, copies of all of our vendor contracts, our guest list on an Excel sheet, engagement photos, etc., backed up in one place. I take it with me every time I know I’m going to see someone who is going to want to see my latest wedding ideas!

Do you have all your wedding “stuff” in one place?

I started with a wedding binder and that’s where I put all my hardcopies of contracts, but have all my inspiration pictures and other documents on a jump drive as well!

I’m with Krissybee. I have taken a hold no proisoners approach and have a notebook with papers, receipts, notes from vendor meetings. I also have a “wedding” folder on my home and work computers filled with ideas I’ve gotten from blogs & google images; also my trusty guest list in an excel spreadsheet.

Ugh, I need to do this. I have stuff EVERY.WHERE. My work computer, my computer, FI’s computer, my coffee table, in purses, it gives me anxiety just thinking about it.

Please Please Please tell me that you back that sucker up all the time! I also use my flash drive (one shaped like Princess Leia) to keep all my stuff with me and I had a horrible day in Vegas when I thought I had lost it. Now I have it auto sync with my computer AND external hard drive just in case. :) PS Google docs is my third source of backup.

I have the obligatory binder - really just so I can look at pretty pictures when I’m not near my computer - and I like making lists I can check off. Plus a folder on my work computer and one on my home computer.

What can I say? I never want to be without my wedding stuff. :)

I have a binder but have been way too lazy to print out all the things I’ve bookmarked from online. Maybe a jump drive would be a better idea ;-)

camrie, I am so with you! I am the same way. Has any one heard of a new website called http://www.eventnow.com? I read about it, and it seems like they “match” you to vendors! That kinda cuts down on running around town to different vendors! I’m thinking of trying it out.

@Miss Pretzel: I was going to say the SAME thing! I need something off my wedding one and I can’t get my jump to respond to any computer and I’m pretty sure I didn’t back up this particular document! Grrrr - I SO know better too!!!

MY FLASH DRIVE IS MY LIFE!!!! Everything to do with the wedding is on the flash drive — however i know I need paper copies for somethings and I am trying desparetly to come up with a binder system — but I think digital and the paper is killing me. Belive it or not I am a librarian — maybe i should organize the binder by dewey numbers LOL

Ms. Planner

I’m a wedding planner and recently got engaged. I didn’t realized that planning for myself would be a lot more work then planning for a client. I guess it has to do with the fact that I see it all and when it came to myself, I had too many ideas. We’ll see what happens once I set a date.

I’ve been putting together a binder for myself and seeing what reading all these DIY binder article. After reading this article, Mrs. Seashell gave me an idea. Instead of a binder for myself, I should save up and purchase for an IPad as my personal planner organizer. I usually have everything on spreadsheets, and save it on Google docs. So an IPad will probably be nice (if I can afford one) and it can also be an investment for my business.

Thanks for sharing your article Mrs. Seashell.
