Mrs. Pencils's Picture
Mrs. Pencils, Washington DC/Frederick, MD Age and Occupation: 24, Program Director, Education Non Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Administrative Assistant, Ocean Conservation Non Profit Engagement Date: July 26, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Morningside Inn About Me: I'm a nerdy Northwestern girl who always knew she was meant to live in the East, harboring a deep love of ice cream, underwear, Diet Coke with a splash of Coca-Cola, pashminas, scrapbooking, stationery, wall calendars and books written for preteens. I think every day should include good thin crust pizza, chocolate, an obscure historical monument, lots of laughter, a dash of wedding planning and, of course, amazing Mr. Pencils! I'm loving the adventure of planning a Maryland wedding and Rocky Mountain reception, and most of all, I just love love!
About Mrs. Pencils

It pours. I’ll admit—I always thought I’d be calm, cool, and collected the week before my wedding. And, overall, I’d say I’m doing pretty well. Of course, I owe all of this to Mr. Pencils, bridesmaid CH who is in town to help out, and bridesmaid AT who’s driven up to help out, too.

It feels that the universe is slightly working against my sanity this week. Overall, everything is OK, but as stress has risen for the wedding, life has risen to meet it, too.

Boomer got sick. It was sad. I took her to the vet and got her some antibiotics and she seemed to be doing better—then we took her back in for the updated shots she needs to go to our local puppy place while we’re on our honeymoon—and she hobbled around for two days as her hip was inflamed from the vaccination. It was so painful to watch her in pain, and I felt so awful when I tried to soothe her and hit a sore spot.

Then, Mr. Pencils found eleven thousand dollars in fraudulent charges on his credit/debit card… and when we had been told it was being taken off and investigated, the charges showed up again. Apparently as they are investigating, they keep the charges there. Swell. He was so calm when he found this out—I was freaking out more than he was. Thank goodness Mr. P has a level of collectedness I seem to be quickly losing.

Then I get an email from my work that they have forgotten to take out my medical deductions for the past six months… so they will be deducting additional money from my upcoming paychecks!

Sweet! The bright side? It’s 500 dollars that I got to have as we planned and paid for the wedding—but paying it backs sucks.

I’m sorry to be such a Debbie Downer, but in reality, despite all of these things happening, I feel pretty chill. I have had a few moments in the last few days where Mr. P or CH has had to say, “it’s OK, everything is going to get done,” but other than that, I’ve held it together. It helps that I’ve taken some time to indulge my artistic side… which you’ll see quite soon.

And just in case it really DOES rain for the wedding, I went off to Target and bought some these babies so we can get some wicked awesome photos on Saturday:

All of those stressful things sound like such an annoying addition to your big week! Way to keep it together though! Good luck getting everything done, and enjoy the time with your friends and family!

Aw, bummer, Pencils. Sounds like you’re handling it quite well. I recently had some fraudulent charges on my CC too (but not 11,000 - yowza!) and I also freaked out while Mr. Jelly was calm. Funny how that works. Anyway I hope the metaphorical clouds clear away for your wedding day!

This post reminded me of when I got audited by the IRS two weeks before my wedding and found out I had to pay them $400 asap. Me… a poor @$$ grad student who makes next to nothing gets audited right before her wedding!

Hang in there, it will all turn out ok!

I’m amazed at your ability to see through the storm, so to speak. And is that a colorful umbrella I’m seeing? Love that idea!

Ugh, what a frustrating series of events…I get much more stressed/disgruntled when a bunch of little things come up instead of some big SERIOUS situation…. You have such a good attitude about it all. Not a Debbie Downer at all!

I can’t wait to see what project you took on to help calm your nerves.

I’m so sorry Pencils! We definitely had our fair shares of drama the week of the wedding, but it made me realize how great we are together even under stress, and that was a great place to be right before we got married. :)

I’m not sure how to handle wedding week stress… I’m hoping lots of deep breaths will help! I already have butterflies in my tummy and we are 2.5 weeks out!

You will make it, hang in there! The big day will go smoothly and it’ll all be worth it. =)

I stayed calm by relying on my sisters & other bridesmaids. A LOT. And also getting a 30-minute massage 2 days before the wedding definitely helped relieve some stress. =)

Oh Miss Pencils, I’m right there with you! I’m getting married Saturday and just discovered I need an emergency root canal on FRIDAY! But none of it matters, because we’ll be married soon!

What a load to carry the week before you get hitched! But what a perfect example of how, even in the worst of times, you’ve got your loving Mr. Pencil to get you through it!

I’m so sorry you have to deal with all of this the week before your wedding! I’m glad you have people to keep you calm and esp Mr. Pencils being calm about the fraud charges. You’re almost there!

Wow, as if the week before the wedding wasn’t stressful enough! I’m glad you’re coping okay though, all things considered. I did my best to stay relaxed the week before my wedding. Working out helped me and I also did a lot of delegating to my very helpful friends and family.

Pencils, I’m so sorry that all of this has been happening — I’m glad you have Mr. Pencils to help you out with everything. :) To quote Finding Nemo (which I always seem to do when I’m stressed…) “Just keep swimming…just keep swimming….”
