About Mrs. Seashell

It seems an increasing number of brides are opting to switch out of their ceremony dress and dance the night away in a reception dress. I’m doing the equivalent for my feet!

Basically, I’m generally a hot mess in heels. I’m pretty tall (5’9″) so I don’t wear them on a regular basis. On the occasion I do wear heels, I end up with bloody heels, oozy blisters, or scraped knees because I’ve taken a tumble. It’s classy.

So, yeah, I’m a flats girl. I love my Tory Burchs. I own more pairs than I’d like to admit, and it’s all too fitting that I rock a pair on my wedding day. My current quest is to find a pair in velvet aubergine. If not, the shiny purple ones will do just fine.

Here’s the plan: my wedding shoes are Stuart Weitzman’s “Gigiritz” which I found at Zappos.com for $298. My specifications were pretty simple: good quality (i.e. I was willing to splurge a bit), under 3″ heel and dyeable. I’m going to have them dyed a rich purple to match my bridesmaids’ dresses. After the ceremony and photos, I’ll slip on my Tory Burchs and savor comfy feet all night!

Are you trading your heels for flats at some point during your wedding?

Wow. I’m wearing a similar heel. Except mine was the Michael Shannon version found at Off Broadway Shoes for $40.

I need to get some flats for my reception - except I worry that the dress will then be too long and I’ll trip over it!

Oh my gosh, SO excited to read this post! I wish our good friend Tory Burch would make a couple of wedding day shoes for us to choose from because if anyone could do it right, it’s her.
Side note: my very 1st pair of Tory flats passed away yesterday, the medallion fell right off! My fault, wore them into the ground.

@Rgeddy:
Exactly why I’m switching into wedges! hehe. It’ll only be a little extra height but I figure it’ll be better than going from almost 4″ to completely flat!

I’m thinking about keeping my heels on for much needed height! I’m 5′3″ and the FI is 5′10″. Guess I need to make sure those heels are UBER comfy and well broken in!!!

Stupid Question: What do you do with the bottom of your dress after wearing the flats? I love the idea of going from heels for the ceremony to flats or flip flops at the reception but I feel like I’d be tripping over my dress all night.

@puzzle: One thing that comes to mind is to accomodate the bustle for lower shoes. I’ll definitely have to account for the switch!

I’m wearing flats the whole day! :) My feet are generally done within a few hours of wearing heels too. So glad there’s another bride who is wearing flats and flaunting it :)

I actually switched into flip flops at the reception because my feet were just too sore!
