Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FL Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer Engagement Date: February 14, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
About Mrs. Dolphin

A few months ago, Mr. Dolphin and I went and registered for gifts at Bed Bath and Beyond. To tell you the truth, we hadn’t planned on registering at all. When Mr. Dolphin and I moved in together, we were merging two kitchens, two bathrooms, two bedrooms, two living rooms… we had two of everything! Granted, our ’two of everything’ consisted of towels from our college dorm rooms, sheets and bedding from our high school years, and very girly (blue with polka dots) and very manly (black) dinnerware. Needless to say, Mr. Dolphin and I feel like we really don’t need anything (although a few things deserve to be upgraded).

So, one of the first things we did after booking our Hawaiian honeymoon to Maui was register our honeymoon at Honeymoon Wishes. We felt that an experience was worth more to us then material things. Our guests could find us on the Honeymoon Wishes website and (if they so choose) gift us with a snorkeling adventure, surfing lessons, gas for the road to Hana, lunch by the ocean, or even a biking adventure down the volcano (how cool is that?!).

Then, there arose a problem.

And when I say problem, Mr. Dolphin will tell you there wasn’t a problem. I have a bridal shower being hosted in my honor (how lucky am I?) by Mr. Dolphin’s mother, that is quickly approaching. While I can’t wait to eat yummy food, spend time with the wonderful women in my life, and play fun shower games, I am nervous about not registering at a big box store. Plus, registries make it easy for guests. If a guest would like to gift you with something that will be with you and your husband throughout your entire lives, they can look up your registry and get you something you need.

So, off we were to Bed Bath and Beyond, armed with a list of things we actually need, so we wouldn’t be distracted by all the shiny objects and go registry-crazy.

We only managed to cross off 3 items on this list… it helped to know what we were looking for, though!

After we picked up our handy dandy scanner (of which Mr. Dolphin immediately grabbed and started pressing buttons on), we were off!

Mr. Dolphin had a good time with the scanner.

So, we scanned our little hearts out for about an hour, jamming out to Miley Cyrus over the store’s stereo (I even caught Mr. Dolphin humming to the music). As we were quickly finishing the kitchen gadget and electronic area, we ran into every bride’s ’must-have’ registry item: The infamous Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer.

I’ve been told it’s the holy grail of wedding registry items. But Mr. Dolphin and I passed on the Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer, as we don’t have the counter space for this baby, nor do we make anything that would require such a piece of heavy duty machinery. As much as I would like this sweet mixer in ’ice’ to match our kitchen,  I will just have to wait ’til we have a big house and I start a baking company out of our house (which is not happening anytime soon… or at all). :)

Rule #1 of registering for Mr. Dolphin and Miss Dolphin is: Don’t register for any Pyrex.

Seminole Bridesmaid received TONS of Pyrex at her bridal shower and wedding, and when I mean TONS, I mean she can make a dish and throw out the Pyrex instead of cleaning it because she has a garage full of more Pyrex. It is quite comical how much Pyrex she has. {Hmm…. I wonder if she will be gifting us with Pyrex?} Our response… we didn’t register for any Pyrex. What we have now is enough. :)

When we had finished scouring the store for things we needed, we headed to the front of the store and had our registry printed out. Here are a few things we registered for:

Where did you all register? Did any of you already have just about everything before your wedding? How did you deal with that?

I loved registering! So fun! We already have a ton of stuff, but it’s all in desperate need of a good upgrade!

Well, my fiance and I will be moving in together after the wedding. And, since both of us are “students”, all we have of our own is clothes and bedroom furniture, plus misc. other items. No kitchen things, no bath things, no “house” things. Our Bed Bath and Beyond registry includes a lot of items! And we have more to add, or so I’m thinking…!

:)

As a owner of a Kitchen Aid mixer, go for it! You won’t regret it… You don’t have to be a crazy baker to get your use out of it. Homemade pizza dough in 10 minutes, chocolate chip cookies in less– it’s the best time in life to get it; these things last forever, so why not start using it now? You can always store it in between uses!

When we merged households, we had dups of everything, but college style kitchen wares, bathroom necessities, etc. so very much a mix and match combo when we hosted parties so when we registered, we “upgraded” what we already have for a more cohesive and mature look.

Registering was fun, but stressful! But getting all the presents in was awesome!

I loved registering! and my FI actually enjoyed it too :)
We have a lot of hand-me-downs in terms of dinnerware, and not a lot else other than some old stuff from college. So we got to start from scratch. Hopefully we get most of the stuff on our list!

We are actually struggling with registering this week, actually. I say struggling because we have lived together for almost a year and already have more stuff than we need, and Adam is not a very stuff-oriented person. We’re using college era towels. We use my parents wedding cookware (Revere ware that is at least 30 years old with plastic handles, none of it is oven proof, drives me insane). I love our vintage restaurant plates, Ikea and mismatched pint glasses, etc, etc., but I do actually want fine china, and upgraded cookware especially since I plan to go back to school in a few months and we won’t be able to afford to buy new stuff!

I had just about everything from college, but it was all hand-me-downs and beat up. I am glad to swap it out for new stuff.

i’m looking forward to registering. even though the mister claims he doesn’t really care what i pick, he definitely has some opinions that negate that. lol.

We already have lots of stuff, but a lot of it is hand-me-downs from our parents, stuff we bought when we didn’t have very much money, a decent amount of stuff from Ikea, etc. We’ve used the opportunity to register for upgrades. We’re really big cooks so almost all of our registry is devoted to awesome kitchen upgrades.

We are registered at Crate & Barrel, Bergner’s, and Target!!! We definitely have the opposite problem! We are going to have nothing when we live together so we are pretty excited about having wedding showers :) Anything we don’t get from the showers, we’ll just buy ourselves!

We registered at Macys originally, but then found that almost everything there was available at BB&B and for less money! So we switched most everything over to a BB&B registry and only have silver, crystal and luggage at Macys. However, we also had a ton of stuff already since we basically merged two full households when we bought our house, so we opted to go the route of a honeymoon registry too! We chose to do ours at honeyfund.com and are really hoping go this route since we can use all the help we can get paying for our cruise!! :)

I got my Kitchenaid mixer for my birthday last year from my FI and I LOVE it! There are so many uses for it. I can’t wait to register, I have a lot of kitchen stuff but it could all use an upgrade. I’ve actually tried to stop buying new gadgets because I know we’ll be registering in a few months.

We have a lot of things because we merged both of our places when we moved in, but a bit of it is leftover from college, so we wanted some “big kid” nicer items.
