I Should Be Really Excited!

I Should Be Really Excited! : wedding bridal shower dress georgia Showera showera

My first shower is this Sunday, and instead of being beside myself with excitement over such a fun and (let’s face it) me-centered party, I am totally freaked out. So you know this whole show thing I’ve been doing? The whole nothing-but-art-building thing? Well, that has left me with days until my shower and absolutely nothing to wear.

My wardrobe currently consists of running clothes covered in paint, and a handful of black dresses that fit alright. I’ve managed to lose weight, and none of my actual go-out-in-public clothes fit. That leaves me with a hole in my wardrobe. What in the world am I going to wear to my shower?!

Being a tall lady, shopping for clothes is always a pain in the rear, especially in the dresses and skirt department.

I stick to Banana Republic, Gap, and Old Navy because of their tall peeps offerings, but nothing just screams “MISS SCISSORS!!!” to me at present. It also is a little stinky that I can only shop online because said stores do not offer tall sizes in-store. Bummer. So, naturally, I just spent [read: charged on my lovely mother’s Banana card] an inordinate amount of money on stuff I’m not really bananas over.

I Should Be Really Excited! : wedding bridal shower dress georgia Showero showero

1. BR Monogram Gold Sandstorm Skirt, Gray 2 Empire Ruffle Dress, Salsa. 3. Oxford shirt, Bright White 4. White Shift Dress 5. BR Monogram Gold Sandstorm Skirt, Taupe 6. Cotton/Cashmere Skinny Rib V-Neck Cardigan, Magical Green 7. Silk Bowtie Top, Papaya Orange 8. Sweetheart Exposed-Seam Cardi, Papaya Orange 9. 3/4 Sleeve Safari Shirt, Majesty

There is a possibility that some of this will look not terrible on my strange figure, but sadly there is no guarantee. I sure do hope at least something in this array will work—I just refuse to wear black to my very own bridal shower. The order arrives on Friday, and then we’ll see whether I can begin to get excited for my shower or begin to totally freak out about having nothing to wear. Until then, I’ll try to continue breathing and telling myself it will be alright!

Was choosing something to wear to your bridal shower fun, or a total nervous-wreck-inducing experience? If you’re tall, what are some of your favorite retailers (online and otherwise)?

You selected some really nice things. You will have some amazing options there. Lots of mix/match options with the tops and skirts and I love both dresses. Have fun at your shower!!!!!

I feel your frustation as a tall girl too… My go to jeans are 7’s because they’re super comfy and are sold in waist/inseam measurements which give me a better fit. Plus, you can get them at pretty much any department store.

You ordered some super cute stuff! I love that white dress - it would look amazing with one of those cardigans! I hope you find something you love!

I love the Gold Sandstorm skirt in taupe! It’s super cute, and I might have to run out and buy it for myself! I too am tall-ish (5′10″), and am fortunate to work for Gap Inc so I get a discount on all the tall girl goodness! There’s new things coming in over the next 2 weeks, so keep your eyes out for more summer cute-ness! :)

I’m sure you’ll look great no matter what!

On a side note…are you able to share what font you used for “it’s shower time”? So cute!

I’m tall, too!!!! I have the worst luck finding normal dresses to fit right!

I like tallgirlshop.com they usually have some good styles.

Usually, if i have time to plan, I prefer to sew my own dresses. I already have mine done for my Wedding shower in May!!! It’s a super cute gray linen, that I absolutely can’t wait to wear!!!!!

I’m 6′1″ and do J. crew pencil skirts in fabulous colors a lot. Sadly, most of my clothes that fit me best came from a shopping spree at a conference in Austria. Damn tall europeans that have easy shopping! But seriously - try longer fabulous skirts/dresses….they’ll hit you just above the knee, a really good length for a shower, and they are totally rockable with edgy accessories!

I’m super short, so I feel you! Most stores don’t sell petites in store, and so it’s online shopping for me as well. I have this really bad habit of picturing things differently than they come. That’s always the worst letdown.

Well, if that white one fits, I feel like you can never ever go wrong with a white dress and good accessories, which something tells me you have a few of :) I hope one of these things works, if not, maybe rush something from like, Bluefly, etc?

Thanks for the reminder! I never even thought of what I’ll wear. I like your choices; hope you love how you look in them!

I’m not tall (::sigh::) but I have a lot of tall friends that love the Buckle! They always get their jeans from there and they are great quality! I’m excited to start looking for shower clothes-I’m hosting one for my friend in June and we’re thinking of having everyone wear some kind of sparkely thing (headband, skirt, scarf, whatever works). I think it will be fun and different!

I am on the opposite end of the spectrum from you, I am really short. Like you, I love BR for it’s short cut pants and petite section.

My bridal shower is this Sunday, too! I don’t have an outfit yet but I’m hoping to find a pretty white dress and pretty cardigan on Friday or Saturday. I’m kind of been procrastinating :/

Pants: Jeans at The Buckle. They come in 35″ (my size) and 37″ inseams. Dress pants I get at The Limited. They offer free hemming so I always order long, take the hem out, and have them stitch it way at the bottom.

Otherwise, I stick to J Crew, Banana, and Gap. A lot of JCrew’s stuff isn’t labeled long, but IS long.

For polo shirts that I wear to work and tuck in all day, I actually buy a medium men’s ralph lauren polo (so soft, has a more feminine, less industrial look) in a girly color like hot pink.

Anne Taylor and Ann Taylor also has Long clothes.

I’m a tall girl, too! And I feel your pain. Online shopping for clothes and shoes to fit my great lengths. But, I have become a pro at it. I pretty much stick to J. Crew for dresses and dressy pants, suits, etc. and anthropologie. I think the long length for pants at J. Crew has a 36 inch inseam. Awesome!

i’m short (as opposed to tall) and i find that companies that do well for the shorties also do well for tall people (love Gap!). I’d recommend Jcrew. they usually do pretty well on long lengths and i love their clothes.

Yo lady! You snagged some awesome stuff and you’re gonna look fab! :) I can’t even imagine planning my shower outfit yet, as I’ve been thinking about our engagement clothes for FOREVER and still made no real decisions… ugh.

I love your choices! I would also suggest The Limited, they have some fun dresses right now and they work for me who has freakishly long torso (even though i’m only 5′8, I struggle with finding things as well) They work wonders for me!

I’m 6′ and I’m an Old Navy girl. I order just about everything online. Trying to find things that are long enough in stores is a big pita.
I found a super cute maxi dress at Target that is long enough, in store*shocked* I think that once the pieces come in try them on and figure out which combo you love the most. You picked out some super cute outfits.

I would love to be able to plan our my shower outfit, but it’s a surprise, which is stressing me out! I want to look cute, not grubby!
