So, I was going through my craft supplies box the other day (okay, let’s be real - my “supplies box” consists of a pair of scissors and some Scotch tape), and I found some spare sheets of navy cardstock. I didn’t want to do anything too complicated, but I did need table numbers, so here’s the result:
The Hamsters’ Un-Complicated Table Numbers
Okay, so they look a little boring, but don’t judge a table number by its front (judge it by its back, and judge judge judge away). And what’s on the back, you ask?
.
Huzzah! It’s pictures from our engagement shoot, along with a goofy little story about the Mister and me. I knew I wanted a little more than the basic table number, but I didn’t want to cause our guests any confusion - my Uncle Dan walking around saying “Where’s Cheeseburger? Where’s Cheeseburger?” is not my idea of a good time. So that’s why we have a number AND a name. AND a picture. AND a story. Overkill? Oh well.
Here are all of the table numbers:
And since you’re probably reading this at work and could use a little diversion, below are the stories we used:
1. Fusion: In 2006, Miss Hamster introduced Mr. Hamster to the Asian-inspired restaurant P.F. Chang’s, telling him it was Chinese food. He was not impressed. They returned a few months later, with Miss Hamster calling it a “fusion” restaurant - with renewed expectations, Mr. Hamster was a much bigger fan.
2. Hang Ten: Miss Hamster and Mr. Hamster took surfing lessons in Maui. Their self-proclaimed “big waves” turned out to be, upon examination of the souvenir photos, 2-foot swells.
3. Cheeseburger: In 2008, Miss Hamster and Mr. Hamster took a road trip through Arizona, Nevada and California. Along the way, they picked out an In-N-Out location guide, which they may or may not have used to plan their route.
4. Olympia: Miss Hamster and Mr. Hamster both participated in their school’s “All-University Games”. He was a sumo wrestler, and she on the tug-of-war team (obviously, based on their hulking physiques).
5. Durian: In 2008, Mr. Hamster introduced Miss Hamster to the stinky durian fruit. Faced with eating this odiferous fruit in front of Mr. Hamster’s parents (whom she had met for the first time a few days earlier), Miss Hamster bravely forged ahead. She has not eaten durian since…
6. Pavlova: On Miss Hamster’s and Mr. Hamster’s second unofficial date, Mr. Hamster revealed that his favorite dessert was the pavlova. Miss Hamster, who dabbles in* baking, had never heard of a pavlova before but was intrigued. She has since perfected her pavlova recipe.
*is wildly enthusiastic about
7. Panther: Mister Hamster wanted to have panthers (the animal) at this wedding, after watching an episode of MTV Cribs. Miss Hamster had to veto this idea. We hope you still enjoy the wedding, sans cats.
8. S vs. L: Miss Hamster and Mr. Hamster recently took a Thai boxing class together. For an hour, they had full reign to punch and kick each other - with padding, of course. Mr. Hamster (supposedly) went easy on Miss Hamster, while Miss Hamster (supposedly) kicked as hard as she could.
9. Dumpling: Miss Hamster’s and Mr. Hamster’s first unofficial date was at a hole-in-the-wall dumpling joint. Mr. Hamster claimed he could eat 30 dumplings; Miss Hamster wasn’t so sure. Mr. Hamster didn’t succeed, but Miss Hamster was intrigued…
10. Millionaire: In 2009, Miss Hamster and Mr. Hamster auditioned for “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire: Couples’ Edition”. Each of them was worried that the other would fail the trivia test. Those worries were realized when they both failed. Apparently, their self-estimated trivia aptitude is grossly inaccurate.
11. Captain Cook: Miss Hamster and Mr. Hamster encountered a shark while snorkeling at the Captain Cook monument in Hawaii. Mr. Hamster turned around to point it out to Miss Hamster, only to find a trail of bubbles as she frantically made her escape.
12. Valentino: In 2007, Mr. Hamster gave Miss Hamster roses and a stuffed bear for Valentine’s Day. The bear played an important role in the proposal in 2009, holding the ring box. When Mr. Hamster popped the question, Miss Hamster was surprised and accidentally laughed in his face. To his credit, Mr. Hamster was unfazed.
I know. We’re dorks.
