Ten years is a long time. It’s an entire decade. A tenth of a century. The length of the Friends series. And the approximate amount of time needed for a Twinkie to become stale. It also happens to be how long Mr. PC and I have been together.

Let me take you back. It was 2000, and Mr. PC and I were both high school sophomores. We were in the same Spanish class. He thought I was funny. And I thought his accent was muy caliente (though admittedly, his accent probably left something to be desired, but my teenage hormones were clouding my thinking). We talked. I tossed my hair around, which he liked. He tossed around his PSAT scores, which I liked. One thing led to another, and 3 months and one 6 hour phone call later, we were officially dating.

We’ve been through a lot together in the last ten years: prom dramas, college admissions, dorm food, a 3 hour time difference while I lived in DC for 16 months, the dissolution of N*Sync, a family divorce, an episode of micturition syncope, and our own development into full fledged adults (well, maybe just 83% adult, but close enough).

When people hear we’ve been together a decade, they’re shocked. Understandably. 10 years is a long time, and a lot has happened since the Pin-ster and I became an item.

Let’s take a look back, VH1-style, in what we’ll call “I Love 2000 and 2010″ (because who hasn’t spent an entire weekend watching those shows? Oh, you haven’t? Yah, me neither. Sheesh, who does that anyway?).

A lot has happened in the past 10 years. There is less hair tossing nowadays. And his PSAT scores have been replaced by his PhD status. But a lot has stayed the same (like our inability to find someone to take our picture, apparently). We’ve grown up and grown together. We’re the couple we are because of our long history.

My guy and I have been together 11 years and it’s so funny cause he’s a PhD student also!

As you, we have been through so much together and just recently got engaged this past Christmas.

By the time we get married next summer, it will have been 12 years of us dating! His thing is that, once we get married, does that mean that we have to start over in counting the years??? LOL

Wow. That was beautiful.

I met my fiance when I was a freshman in high school, and he was a junior in high school. I’m now a junior in college and he graduated in May… so we’ve been together 6+ years. We’ve seen each other through graduations, proms, weddings, births (none of our own), deaths, the admissions process, moves from and to Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, family vacations, recitals, horrific double dates, weird new hobbies, and interesting hair cuts. It’s been a good time.

Looks like we’re both ready to make it “official” - we’ll be hanging out with these men for the rest of our lives!

yay for more high school sweethearts! We’ve also been through crazy prom, long distance, and growing up! (although we didn’t start dating until grade 12, so we’ve only got 8 years on your 10 - I think we are the same age, haha) Also loved your hilarious then vs. now post.

My FI and I are actually celebrating our 9 year anniversary today!! I was a sophmore in high school and he was the ‘older man’ as a junior. We started dating during track season and have some pics like the one above! By the time our wedding rolls around, we will have been together for 10 years too. I think it’s one of the best things about our relationship: how we have grown up together, know where we both come from, etc… It’s so fun to look back on those pictures from so long ago, though it really seems like yesterday. I’m really looking forward to hearing all about your wedding plans!

Fellow high school sweetheart couple here We’ve been together for 10 years and are getting married on 10.10.10!

We haven’t even been together 2 years yet! But we’ve endured his grad school career, my first real job in my field out of college (a crazy internship nonetheless), living in a state neither of us had before, me living in a part of the U.S. I’ve never lived in before (and learning to drive on ice and live in temperatures less than 90 degrees), and going on a year of long distance. Whew!

I think it’s so cool that you guys have been together for so long! The Hubs and I have been together around 5 years, but we were friends for *9* years before we started dating. We have some funny pictures of us from when we looked all young back in the day, which crack me up.

My honey bunnyand i have been togetther 13 years. We too have endured - college, grad school, long distance, multiple apartments and lots of pictures of me holding the camera (my arms are longer) peopel are amazed when they hear how long we have been together - we didn’t meet in high school and he was already out of college when we did meet. alot of women have claled me crazy and guys have said i am patient. i jsut think you know when you are reday regardless of how long you have been together - but as the tortise said slow and steady wins the race.

We’ve been together for 10 years too!! We met in the summer of 2000 when we were both camp counselors, and I was a rising sophomore in HS. We picked 10-10-10 as our wedding date because of the significance So great to see another couple in the same shoes!!

Wow! The most adorable couple ever! I have been with my Mr. Bacon and Eggs for almost 9 years and we spent some time away from each other at school. Great post! I’ve been with mine for 7 solid years next month. People hear even that and say ‘woah.. you should have been married a long time ago…’ which it totally unfounded.. I am sure you get that too.
