Hive fives all around! Sorry, the puns stop here… I just couldn’t resist.
Hello everyone – I’m Miss Frog and I’m absolutely thrilled to be the newest bee! I’ve been reading Weddingbee for a good 3 years (shh, don’t tell Mr. Frog) and although I always thought it would be uber cool to be a bee, I’m now pinching myself that it’s actually happened!
Before I launch in with all of the fun details about Mr. Frog (here out referred to as Frogger) and me… I first have to share a photo with you that was taken the day I found out I was accepted to Weddingbee. My Matron of Honor “Banannie” scored it through coworkers and insisted that we meet for drinks to celebrate.
Can you take it? I had multiple questions for Banannie when she showed up with this little gem.
She responded with:

Fact: currently, my lovely fiance and I are broke as a joke.
The state of our finances is not a surprise. Last year, we lived in a pretty cheap city, and we each made a salary. This year, we’ve moved to a city with a ridonkulous cost of living, and with me in grad school full time, we’re living on the earnings from my work-study job, Mr. O’s freelance work in news production, and his second job waiting tables. Basically, our rent doubled and our joint income got cut in half. We knew that this year was going to be the leanest one we’ve ever had.
Even though we were prepared, I’m not gonna lie: it’s been tough sometimes.

I picked up my first dress for our honeymoon in Maui, HI! We picked up this lovely little dress at Rochelle’s Clothing in St. Augustine (located right before the Bridge of Lions on the beach side). It’s a super cute shop with lots of unique dresses (they also carry name brands like Citizen for Humanity and Hard Tail).

Love this!

Disclaimer: I can take no credit for any of this DIY wonderfulness! My FMIL is a crafting genius.
Initially my FMIL was going to make a ring pillow using lace from my Aunt’s veil. While searching for inspiration, I found this beautiful ring pillow on Etsy (which I now call “crack for brides”). I simply adore it. It has the perfect blend of the ivory and gold tones and the leaves are a lovely subtle fall detail. I decided to go ahead and buy it and we’re going to wrap the pillow in the lace from my Aunt to make something really beautiful and meaningful! I’ll post photos once that project is complete.
Happy Friday! As promised, here are some professional pictures of our courthouse ceremony! Our talented friends Amy and Andrew came up from LA to photograph our City Hall ceremony. They did an awesome job capturing the emotion and feel of the day, and we’re so thankful to them for being there for us. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite photos that they took:

During the ceremony. I love how all the parents are holding a recording device of some kind!

Like a lot of brides, I’m pretty keen on getting some designer pieces for the wedding and beyond. But on my baby-sized budget, I have to be crafty. This is where The Outnet comes in.
Why The Outnet? Let me show you the ways:
This store is full of win mostly because of their weekend sales and their impeccably edited stock. The Outnet is the discount site of Net-a-Porter, so you pretty much know from the get-go that everything is fantastic. But the best thing ever is the weekend sales they run. They’re usually thematic, like pastels or jeans or coats, and the discount is deep: extra 45% or 50% off, most of the time.
There are so many wedding-worthy accessories and honeymoon clothes!

I’m Ron Burgundy? Sorry for the question mark headline, you’ll see why in a minute… I must also apologize if my posting is light this week, as I’m up in Nor Cal at “wedding central” doing 8 hours of gardening a day for nine days…
I got some respite from the manual labor and squeezed in some sewing, since it recently dawned on me that I was still a ring pillow-less bride! Oh nos! And since Professor Paisley just asked our little nephew to be our ring bearer, I needed to get serious about a little cushion for our shiny bands o’ gold.
This morning my mom wrote a note before leaving for work saying the ring pillow I made last night was beautiful and had “family heirloom potential?”
Which made my day, of course, but I’ll have you know that question mark is key, because personally, I don’t think this ring pillow will last many generations…
Because it’s made out 150-year-old napkins that were a wedding present to my mom and dad in 1971:

The reception set up went off without a hitch and it was time for all of us ladies to be treated to a little pampering at a local salon, CJ Cochran. It was very convenient in that the salon was only a few blocks away from the venue.
Having a Sunday wedding meant that we had the entire salon to ourselves. Lucky us, huh? The salon provided fresh fruit, breakfast pastries and beverages, and all were delicious! As planned, our photographer was set to arrive in time to snap some shots of me getting my hair and makeup done. It turns out she got there a little early and was able to get some great photos of my adorable niece, Aidyn, as she sat in the hot seat. Since there are so many pictures of this, I thought it would be best to put them together in an Animoto video for easy viewing. I love each one of these photos and figured this would be a fun way to share them with the hive.
Some of her facial expressions are priceless! Check it out:
I am not DIY-ing this wedding. I am not crafty at all. I can’t cut straight lines nor glue things without them ending up on my elbows or on my face instead. But this was one detail that sounded easy enough to try (that ironically requires cutting straight lines and gluing things).
Here are the liners I ended up choosing for our Save the Dates:
Paper Source’s Yuzen Blue White Swirls & Text Paper in Chartreuse
I could fit 12 liners on each 25 1/2″ x 19″ sheet of the Yuzen Blue and 2 on each the 8.5″x11″ Chartreuse text paper.
Lining envelopes adds a detail with SHAZAM power (um, for those guests who don’t tear open their envelopes with their bare hands like I do sometimes. Guilty.). I used Miss Hamster’s tutorial to get through it.

Fabric Rolled Rose Bouquet by eevees

B-List festivities were held at The Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, VA. There have been so many great blog recaps of the event already but as a true foodaholic, I thought we’d give a little extra attention to the food and little details that were so inspirational and above all, delicious!
The menu was created by Design Cuisine and the details were executed flawlessly. All the dishes were even named after the bloggers, my favorite being Oh So Beautiful Paper’s Tuna Tartare. Kelly from Santa Barbara Chic and I made sure we knew the locations of the waitstaff carrying those sweet trays of tuna tartare at all times!

Operation: Flow-y Bamboo Wedding Altar
Dolphin Dad and all-around-handyman (he can truly fix and make anything), Ray, have been working on this super secret mission. Okay… so it’s not really super secret, but it made it sounds much cooler to say so.
When Mr. Dolphin and I first started our search for wedding ceremony locations we were so sure we wanted a beach wedding (we had to since nix the idea due to logistics). When searching for inspiration I came across all these beautiful bamboo altars and fell in love with them. Lucky for us, Dolphin Dad just so happened to have bamboo laying around (SCORE!). So after discussing the design with Dolphin Dad, he quickly placed an order for extra bamboo, and he and Ray got into design development. But, before I show you the beautiful bamboo and the mock-up of the altar, check out some of my inspiration for our bamboo wedding altar.
