Hands down, ABC’s Modern Family is one of the best shows on TV. At least Mr. Seashell and I think so. If you’re not watching, you’re missing out. It’s HILARIOUS!
Perhaps I enjoy the show because I can relate to having a family that’s less than conventional. Where should I start? Let’s see, circa 1975 my parents were married: Dad Seashell an upper class African American man and Mama Seashell a working class Italian American woman. After years of trying to (unsuccessfully) conceive I was adopted, and then my sister came along four years later. Soon after my sister was born, we came to learn that she was mentally disabled. About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
Lately, I’ve been spending a fairly ridiculous amount of time pondering our guestbook options. It seems like a really small detail, but in my defense, I’m pretty fond of keepsakes like that, and Mr. O is literally the most nostalgic person I’ve ever met in my life, so a guestbook full of messages from our friends and family is something we would both definitely cherish. Also, it’s a way, way more entertaining mental diversion than my grad school assignments.
I’ve narrowed the options down to two, but now I’m waffling like an Eggo about which one to choose!
Option One: Postcards
Mr. Octopus and I have had a fairly nomadic life together, moving from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas to Boston in the span of five years, so I thought it would be cool to gather up an assortment of postcards from all the places we’ve lived. Our guests could choose a postcard and write a little note on it, and we would put them together into an album after the wedding.
Mrs. Hot Dog, Cheyenne, WYAge and Occupation: 23, Health Information SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Personal Trainer
Engagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Family Ranch outside Glenrock, WYAbout Me: I'm a city girl by birth and rural girl by choice. I'm ready to take on the world with a big heart and a big smile! I love all things crafty and DIY. I live in Cheyenne, WY with Mr. HD and our 2 fur babies, our dachshunds, Ollie and Mia. I love travel, adventure, Finding Nemo, '90s music, animals, and laughing. He is the cheese to my macaroni and together we spend more time watching movies than we probably should! I'm an old soul who is super duper excited to pull off our down home-rustic-chic-country wedding (on the cheap)!
After seeing Mrs. Poodle’s post about her silverware project, I was in love. The bamboo would go SOO perfectly with our rustic theme! Then I read that she had tons left, so I went ahead and bought them from her!
Usually, I try to be completely creative in my DIY. But her idea was so amazing, I totally had to copy. I did add my own little twist, though.
First I gathered all the supplies: silverware, recycled paper napkins, stamps and brown ink, and some raffia.
Last month, a big group of bees descended upon Las Vegas! Well, what happens among the bees in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas… as many of the bees got together to participate in desert shoots! Check out our first installment of The Bees’ TTD in Vegas!
First up, Mrs. Quiche, Mrs. Hamster and Mrs. Frenchie as photographed by Mrs. Moonbeam. They headed up to Red Rock Canyon National Park and got quite a few comments, odd stares,
and Frenchie got many congratulations (Mrs. Moonbeam thinks formality of the dresses made people determine who the ’bride’ was).

Mrs. French Fries, MilwaukeeAge and Occupation: 27, ParalegalFiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments AdvisorEngagement Date: September 20, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel BallroomAbout Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
Hello, bees! I know, I know… it’s been kind of quiet on the French Fry front lately, and for that I am sorry. But! I do not come to you with just a sorry apology — oh, no. I come to you with a post full of pictures. Not just any kind of pictures… pictures of our invitations!
Yep, the wedding paper porn is here, my friends. (Go ahead and scroll down to look at them before reading the rest of this…you know you want to.) I wanted to wait until our invitations were mailed before posting them on the ‘bee. To say that I love our invitations is just a bit of an understatement. I pink puffy heart them — and yes, a pink puffy heart is apropos, considering that if you don’t like the color pink, you’ll most likely hate my invitations. OK, “hate” is a rather strong word… but you’ll probably dislike them heartily, because well… they’re Pink. With a capital P.
The absolutely lovely and wonderfully talented Mrs. Gloss of Fourth & Folded designed our invitation suite from start to finish — and she’s currently working on some other paper products for us! She’s seriously amazing — and I never, in a million years, could have hoped our invitations would look this good. So a huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Gloss!
Enough words — you’re here for the pictures.

I am happiest when traveling to faraway places, wandering through museums, watching old movies, or baking up a storm. Mr. Turtle and I are high school sweethearts and fellow book nerds who both drive Mini Coopers and are most likely to be found browsing in antique stores. We're having so much fun planning our European garden wedding with a vintage twist and can't wait to share more of life's adventures together!

Mr. Lobster and I met in grad school and have been together ever since. I'm clueless about DIY but am an avid online shopper and love all things polka dots, stripes, and ruffles! When I'm not making wedding lists, you can find me looking for snacks, watching Gilmore Girls, or hanging out with Mr. Lobster and our new puppy Buddy! We are planning a fancy-pantsy Brooklyn wedding for a hot New York summer night which is sure to be a misadventure in the making.
It was so painful sitting at work when I got an email saying they were delivered. I could not wait to get home to check them out! This is what I saw when I got there:
Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force PilotEngagement Date: February 21, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill WineryAbout Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
A couple months ago, I received a card in the mail. I always notice stamps, and I immediately admired the beautiful stamp that graced the envelope:
Behold! The Lunar New Year: Year of the Tiger Stamp
‘That’s really nice,’ I thought to myself. I made a mental note that these stamps might go well with our wedding invitations, since they fit right in with our autumn color scheme. I thought about buying some at the time, but figured I’d wait until I had our invites in hand and knew exactly how much postage we’d need. Bad idea! Read more…

I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
My first idea for the sign on the main road to the ranch was kind of different from what we ended up doing. The idea was to have us holding balloons so our guests could see the road from far away, and then including little poodle-shaped balloons directing guests where to go from there.
I ended up liking what we came up with better than my original idea!
For this project I had help all the way from Switzerland from my favorite cousin, Hector! He wanted to help me in some way, so I asked him to draw Mr. Poodle and me for our Save the Dates, but due to bad timing we ended up not being able to use the sketch and instead just included a picture of our legal ceremony. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
When it comes to the father/daughter dance song, I really want to find a song that both my dad and I really like,. I don’t want to be a crying mess dancing with my dad—I want to have a good time and ’dance it out’ with my dad.
I’ve been listening to a lot of music my dad used to play to me while I was growing up. While some songs are not as appropriate (The Monkeys), others are good contenders (Elton John, Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, etc). Here are a few songs I’ve been listening to.

Shockingly, after all my distress and reasoning for having the girls pick their own dresses, they actually asked that I give specific guidelines. Silly me, all that worry over nothing. Go figure. So, first stop: J.Crew.

I was super excited about the florist I met in Pittsburgh, and all we had left to do was to dot the Is and cross the Ts before she would officially be the person to bring my roses-and-dahlias-and-jewel-tones bouquet ideas to life.
Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CAAge and Occupation: 33, LawyerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, dittoEngagement Date: July 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon BayAbout Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
After selecting the goodies for our out of town bags (OOT bags), we had to package them. This happened in overwhelming part due to my sister, brother in law, mom and dad. Where me and Mr. Pug were, I have no idea. Useless.
We placed the homemade spiced peanuts and granola in clear cello bags (*premium*, no less) in the 2.5 x 2 x 6 size. The bags were not long enough on top to tie with a ribbon (planning doh!), so we folded them down, punched in a few staples, and hot glued some hand-tied ribbons made with purdy gold ribbon.
