As told in photos.
Have I mentioned that I’m making my fiance’s Batman themed groom’s cake? Oh, I didn’t explain that little bit of crazy? Well I am, and I probably didn’t mention it because I didn’t want any of you sane ladies talking me out of what could prove to be a big stressor two days beforehand. Ah, well, check out the trial run for yourself!
It all began with a box. Three boxes, technically—two butter golden recipe and one dark chocolate fudge.
Six eggs, two sticks of butter later, I had this:
I have been eying these ’design your own’ Nina Electras for well over 6 months. In order to get my dream shoes for our wedding I would need to special order them in a 3.25″ heel (they come stock in the 4″ heel which is wayyy to tall for this lady). The problem? The price. The custom heel height is $199. If you join their mailing list you can get 10% off your first order, but I just couldn’t wrap my head around paying $180 for shoes that I may only wear once (it has taken me a long time to get to this point—when we first got engaged I started looking at shoes that were between $300-600… yes, I was out of control).
One day, while browsing Weddingbee I decided to check out our classifieds section on the site and came across a pair of Design Your Own Nina Electras in ivory in my size. A bride ordered them custom from Nina and later decided to wear a different shoe for her wedding. SCORE! and the price? $80 including shipping. DOUBLE SCORE!
As my Mom says, when it’s meant to be… it’s meant to be.

Alliteration much?
Part 1: Prettified Pots
I ended up doing our table assignments, um, the week before our wedding—finishing the last of them around fifteen minutes before we left for our rehearsal. This is something I would NOT recommend, as it was NOT fun, at all. I knew I didn’t want to have place cards, just escort cards (if you don’t know the difference—I didn’t—read here), and because I had no idea what to do (at this point, my brain was fried), I emailed my wonderful DOC freaking out asking for advice. She suggested nixing the escort cards, and made my life somucheasier by recommending a table assignment card for each table instead of a card for each person. I decided to go with one of her suggestions for creating the table assignments and high-tailed it over to Jo-Ann’s to pick up supplies. For 22 tables, I ended up buying 22 terra cotta pots of varying size (the cheap ones) and around seven to ten spools of ribbon. Why did I need these supplies? So I could make these**:

**No, our wedding colors didn’t suddenly change to grey and yellow. Because this was a last minute project, I did not have time to take pictures. Fear not!! because I have a tutorial for you below!
My mom insisted I wear Spanx under my wedding dress. She insisted with an urgency that would border on troubling if I stopped to really think about it.
So she bought me this charmer. Thanks, Mom!
I tried it on under my dress and had to admit, the sucker-in did flatter. But I wanted to test-run them before the big day, so I wore them to a friend’s wedding.
OH.MY.WOW.

The riverboat docked and we said goodbye to some of our rehearsal dinner guests who wanted to call it a night. But a few brave souls stuck around for the next event on our jam-packed wedding eve: the ghost tour!
Just before we hopped on the Old Town Trolley Tours to go on their “Ghosts and Gravestones Frightseeing Tour”, I heard a loud popping noise in the distance.
I turned around and saw this:
I am a fainter.
It is not dainty or feminine, like Victorian literature would have you believe. In fact, it is super unpleasant and embarrassing. Thank God YouTube didn’t exist at the time I did a spectacular face-plant in the lobby of my pediatrician’s office—at the age of twenty, no less—after receiving a bunch of shots in preparation for my college semester studying abroad. Every time I’ve fainted, it’s been immediately following something involving blood, needles, or weird body stuff.
What does this have to do with our wedding?

You thought we were done, right? Think again.
I sent out 100 finished pocketfold manvites - only to realize that the guest list wasn’t exactly finished. Yep, there were to be about twenty more additions, to be specific. These things happen.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have any extra pocketfolds ready-to-go. And Mr. Sew was too busy working on the dress to be bothered with more time-consuming pockets. And we were also fresh out of white glue sticks for seal making.
Well, why not modify the design a bit? It will help both as a way of handling my lack of materials and also my lack of motivation. Fresh ideas are always a good cure for laziness.
I started by introducing some red linen paper, to make the package a little more colorful than last time.

Kleinfeld, scene of the show Say Yes to the Dress might have been more appropriately named Say I Dunno to the Dress for my visit.
Kleinfeld Bridal Storefront (foto by me)
I saved my Kleinfeld Bridal appointment for a weekend when SF BM (wife of Save-the-Date creator) was in town to make a weekend out of it. In total, I brought 4 bridesmaids for moral support. I booked my appointment during a Monique Lhuillier (my bridal fashion crush) trunk show and my sales consultant was Sarah about whom I heard great things.

And it feels great!
With less than two months until the wedding, our ’to do’ list is still alarmingly long, so one less paper project sounded great to me when I realized that for $5 and 5 minutes of my time, I could eliminate the photo upload cards!
If you’re not familiar with photo upload cards, they’re just a little card that gets handed out or left on the tables, asking guests to upload any pictures they took at your wedding, with instructions on how to do so. If you want an easy way to gather all the photos you can from your wedding day, they’re a simple and cute way to do it.
Just look at these adorable cards from one of the wedding blogs I follow:
Hello hive! I’m back again because, as Mrs. French Bulldog so sweetly reminded me, I didn’t do my honeymoon recaps! So for all of you considering Canada, a road trip, the mountains, or the beach as a honeymoon destination, I’m here to help.
Mr. Espresso and I did a road trip honeymoon through Vancouver Island in Canada. It was the perfect destination for a surfer like him and a mountain girl like me. We hit up Brentwood Bay, Tofino, Ucluelet, and Victoria. But before I get started, press play below for some background music—because what’s a road trip without music, right?
Hello hive!
Thanks so much for having me! I’m beyond excited to be Miss Seashell! I feel so honored to be among such an extraordinary group of talented, creative, compassionate, energetic, and all-together amazing women. Like so many of you, Weddingbee has become my go-to resource for all things wedding. I just can’t get enough of the hive!
When my email from Mrs. Penguin came in inviting me to be a bee, I literally leaped off the sofa and began jumping up and down. After staring at me like I was crazy for a minute or two Mr. Seashell teased, “Honey, I don’t think you were this excited when I proposed.” To which I replied, “Only because you were a sure thing.” Which leads itself to a perfect Seashell introduction:
On our first official date!
Mr. Seashell and I met in January 2008 while we were both graduate students at Northwestern University.

I have to say that before getting an iPhone, I didn’t know what I was missing. Now that Mr. Dolphin has forced me to have one (I know… I was kicking and screaming the whole way), I can’t imagine not having one! I can check my email, manage my blog, browse the web, find restaurants, and my favorite part… I can take pictures and email them to my friends and family.
Because Mr. Dolphin and I are so attached to our iPhones I wonder if they will make an appearance at our wedding? They most likely will. And with a ton of our family members having iPhones themselves, I’m sure we will see a few iPhones in the crowd capturing our wedding day. Here is a little montage of iPhone appearances at weddings I’ve found. Enjoy!
How sweet! A bride and groom moment captured on an iPhone.

A while back, Mr. Oyster and I set out to look for something for him to wear in the wedding. We visited a local tux shop, but all the tuxes there just reminded me of high school prom.
Part of the problem was that Mr. O just didn’t know what he wanted to wear. Personally I imagined getting him a modern-cut stylish tux, or even a nice slim cut black suit. He is tall and thin and I thought it would look nice. We even tried on a few of these at Macy’s. Since Mr. O doesn’t currently own a suit, we were considering purchasing one.
But Mr. O had his own ideas. In a direct contrast to the dress drama I’ve endured, he looked over my shoulder at the computer one day, took a look at one photograph, and said, “That looks nice. I want to wear that.” And then he was done. I mean, how easy is that?! Here’s the picture he saw, from our photographer:
Handsome, isn’t he? A nice, classic, peak lapel tux, with no bow tie. So, with this in mind, we set out to find it.

I am now officially fully-dressed for our wedding. Dress, shoes, jewelry, hair, makeup, and finally I can add to the list: my veil!
Technically I’ve had the veil 95% done for about 3 weeks now, but I’m finally over the last hurdle of completing it. As I mentioned in my previous veil post, I decided I wanted a fingertip length veil with thin pencil edging, and after sticker shock at the bridal store, I wanted to make my own. So with the help of the very awesome Weddingbee reader edb, here’s how things went down.
First, cutting the tulle. I bought 2 yards of 108″ ivory tulle at Jo-Ann—I could have bought waaaay less. And I certainly didn’t need the 108″ wide tulle, either. I also knew I had a veil pattern from an impulse buy a while back at a 99 cent pattern sale, but stupidly never checked that it was indeed the one I wanted. Of course it was not the right one, but after 3 separate Jo-Ann’s didn’t have the right one in stock, I decided to wing it and modify the pattern I did have.
So I took over our guest room and attempted to keep the cats at bay since they seem unnaturally attracted to sewing pattern paper (and probably tulle, too):
