My first shower is this Sunday, and instead of being beside myself with excitement over such a fun and (let’s face it) me-centered party, I am totally freaked out. So you know this whole show thing I’ve been doing? The whole nothing-but-art-building thing? Well, that has left me with days until my shower and absolutely nothing to wear.
My wardrobe currently consists of running clothes covered in paint, and a handful of black dresses that fit alright. I’ve managed to lose weight, and none of my actual go-out-in-public clothes fit. That leaves me with a hole in my wardrobe. What in the world am I going to wear to my shower?!
Being a tall lady, shopping for clothes is always a pain in the rear, especially in the dresses and skirt department.

As much as I love shoes, I have this weird thing for dirty feet. They just have this look like they’ve been somewhere, you know? No? Are you looking at me like I’m crazy? It’s OK. I know people have a wide ranging set of feelings of feet and dirt and sanitation in general. I mean really? They’re feet. Strange, yet cute, yet weird. I get it.
OK fine, photo inspiration then. Maybe I can show you why there just may be some potential for dirty feet to be a good thing.

Mr. O and I recently wrapped up a whirlwind forty-eight hours of wedding recon in Pittsburgh, and other than my decidedly unsuccessful hair “trial”, it was actually a really productive trip! Most exciting (to me)? After eating approximately ten slices of cake apiece in two days, lapsing into several brief sugar comas, and having one really rockin’ cake-and-coffee-fueled Bon Jovi car jam session, we picked our bakery!
I obsessively scoured the Internet for highly-rated wedding cake vendors, and narrowed our choices down to three: Pastries a la Carte, Autumn’s Cakes, and Signature Desserts.

Gotta put your game face on before cake tastings.
Registries might just be the coolest idea ever created for weddings. I mean, come on, you get to marry the person you love, throw a party with all of your favorite people AND to top it all off, let’s go ahead and have everyone give you gifts?! Oh, and did I mention these are gifts you actually want… yeah, it’s the best.day.ever.
I wanted to let you all in on my favorite registry find to date. I couldn’t wait on this one, it’s just too cool!

Amazon.com is a new favorite among wedding registries… and for good reason. But they have outdone themselves with the recent addition of their Universal Registry Button.

“Add a memorable touch to your wedding with unique favors that match your theme.”
Let me set the scene. I took the long drive (okay… maybe it was only 40 minutes… but that is long for me!) down to Ocala to Alterations Unlimited, and ultimately to finally try on my dress for the first time in months (I brought along my brand new and adorable Nina Electras). I got there, slipped into my huge dress (that is another whole story) and slipped into my satin Ninas. As Debbie, the wonderful owner, went over with me my options with the dress and what undergarments I should purchase for our next meeting, all I could do was stare at my feet. How could I have been so absent-minded to not even try on my beautiful new shoes with my wedding dress (which Mr. Dolphin asked me about over and over again once I came home and told him the story)? All I could see is how blatantly the shoes didn’t match my dress—not in style, material or color!
My dress is very light, airy, lacy and is devoid of any satin whatsoever. So when I put on my beautiful satin, ivory, and bowed shoes with it, they just didn’t match. The shoes were meant for a more modern dress, and my dress has more of a vintage look to it. I think it was ultimately the big satin bow that threw off the whole look.

I’m normally very good about these things.

I think the title of this post says it all. Don’t get me wrong, I love music, Mr Trail Mix loves music (I think…) but in no way are we at all into the music “scene”. I’m not gonna lie, most of the time when I read other bees’ posts about lovingly-crafted playlists, I’ve never even heard of most of the bands listed (how embarrassing!).
This could definitely be us… except I actually like country music. And most hip-hop.
We both are obsessed with Dave Matthews Band (seen them in concert at least 8 or 9 times) but other than that, we don’t really have much inspiration to go off of. Even though we have our (AWESOME) band playing at the reception, we still needed two iPod play lists, one for dinner and one for when the band takes their 2nd break.

I haven’t even blogged about our registries, or the fact that I didn’t even want to register in the first place, but now let’s talk about how we just opened our fourth one. Yeah, I initially wanted zero. Maybe one for wedding china. Now we have four. (Technically 3, but I’ll get into that later.)
So, I was hoping to do the bulk of our registry at Bloomingdale’s. I love Bloomie’s, and I get these things in my head like, “EVERYONE registers at Macy’s, and I’m not everyone.” Similarly, I’m very bothered by the idea of having the same or similar wedding china to every couple who got married within 5 years of our wedding date because we all chose one of the cookie-cutter options available at the massive chain stores. Now, I realize Bloomie’s somewhat falls into this category, but I find that they offer a much greater variety of brands that are outside the conventional box. I’ll stop myself here… I see this turning into one of my “nothing is unique in America” rants.

How is it possible that planning a wedding, just one day out of your whole life, can present so many of the most awkward moments you’ll ever experience? You know what I’m talking about… moments like:
“I’m so excited about coming to your wedding!” (Umm… what makes you think you’re invited?)
or
“You’re just going to love my new boyfriend. He’ll be at the wedding!” (And he’s definitely not invited…)
or worst of all…
“I am going to be a bridesmaid, right?”
*Crickets chirping*
And as if there isn’t enough social awkwardness in the world already, this technological world that we live in now, filled with inventions like Facebook and Twitter, manages to introduce a whole new level of awkwardness!

Question: What can go from calm to crazy in less than sixty seconds?
Answer: A Sewing who just had her toilet bowl of planning flushed unceremoniously down the drain.
It started with a rubber kickball. At the feet of some random kid, it flew up to the ceiling of a certain gymnasium, cracking a tile.
And now our second reception venue is no longer free. And that being the last of several triggers, our at-home party has morphed from a fifty-person, laid-back, picture-perusing, pizza-eating, pinata-poking afternoon of fun—into a two-hundred-fifty person, full-on traditional Chinese wedding banquet.
Whoa. How did that happen? Your guess is as good as mine.

Can you believe that was the best Pin Cushion pun I could come up with? Believe it! And get used to it, ’cause there’s a lot more where that came from!
Dud puns aside, I just want to tell all of you lovelies how excited I am to be the newest member in the hive! My Excitement Cup (similar to a Crunk Cup, but with less bling) runneth over. Check out just how excited I am:

So… yeah… recaps… umm, where were we? Oh yeah, that’s right. I last left you with some detail shots, our movie trailer, and our awesome first dance!
After we came off the incredible high of our first dance, we sat down to grab a quick bite and toast to a fabulous evening. My incredibly awesome Maid of Honor gave the first toast and warmed all of our hearts.
I love how luxe our chair bows look. And I try not to look at those damn red cups.

At some crazy point in time we thought we’d do a candy buffet. With money and time dwindling, I decided to skip the project. My caterer provides a Viennese table with chocolates and cookies, so it ultimately felt like overkill, despite how much I love the concept.
I truly think favors are optional, but I have a friend in Bloomington who, along with his partner, is quite the accomplished baker. We talked about doing cheesecake pops dipped in chocolate for favors, but realized they weren’t the safest food to leave lying around. We mused over macarons and then laughed at how hard they are to make (props to all of you who are successful!). Today, they sent me different—and easier—cookie ideas and I knew we had found the perfect favor.
Whoopie pies. I’ve decided they’re the Hoosier cousin of the macaron (except not). No fussy aged yolks and oven doors cracked open under a full moon with the eye of newt, just straight forward cookie-cakes filled with frosting. Hells yes.
Hi friends…we are still friends, right? I’m sorry I made you wait but I had good reason! I really feel like these ones are a total steal. Oh, and if you missed part 1, check it out for more great ideas! Without further ado…

As the old saying goes, the bride is to carry…
Something Old, Something New,
Something Borrowed and Something Blue
… on her wedding day for good luck. I actually love this tradition, and have finally found my ’something blue’.
I originally thought a cute orange and blue garter that I picked up a few months ago would be my ’something blue’. But, when I really thought about it, I wouldn’t be wearing my garter for the whole wedding (probably slipping it on a few minutes before the garter toss), and felt I needed a ’something blue’ that would be with me throughout the day. Little did I know that my earrings would become my ’something blue’!
Check out these beautiful Aquamarine drop earrings Mr. Dolphin bought me!
You know they are a winner when Dolphin Kitty gives her ’paw of approval’!
