Mrs. Nachos, Chicago/St. Thomas
Age and Occupation: 33, Commercial Real Estate & Hairstylist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 36, Radio Producer
Engagement Date: May 22, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort, St. Thomas
About Me: I'm a happy, laid back city girl that can find the silver lining in any situation. An optimist at heart, my motto is to turn your "what ifs?" into "so whats!". My fiance is a radio producer and the biggest Cubs fan you'll meet - our apartment decor definitely shows it. He and I grew up next door to each other and because of it, we have the best home videos and easiest holiday dinners. We are planning an intimate wedding in the Virgin Islands and a cocktail party in June for 150 of our closest friends.
On Easter, I was standing in the kitchen with Mr. Nachos and my parents while my dad was cutting up the ham, and we were talking wedding stuff. That’s when I decided it was the perfect time to ask my dad if he would walk me down the aisle. I know it didn’t have to be asked, but I wanted him to know that it was important to me and something I was really looking forward to. His response?
Only if we can both wear these…

Mrs. Starfish, Boston/Newport
Age and Occupation: 25, Operations Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Sales
Engagement Date: October 8, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: The Atlantic Beach Club
About Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
We’ve got some time before putting together our table assignments, but looking back to past weddings, I started thinking about the different ways to set up the tables. Everyone has different ideas on how guests should be seated. It typically comes down to whether or not you will have assigned seating. But when you plan to assign guests to specific tables, there are still quite a few possibilities.
Groups who know each other- This is the most common way to assign your guests. It makes sense to put people who know each other together. It makes the guests feel comfortable and lets them have fun. It’s especially great to put people together who know each other, but may not see each other too often, this way they can catch up. Personally, this is my favorite arrangement. I like being able to hang out with friends and family members at other people’s weddings.

Mrs. Hamster, New York City
Age and Occupation: 28, Finance Gal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance Guy
Engagement Date: March 9, 2009
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: The Pierre Hotel
About Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
Today I had a bit of a stressful moment. Let me explain.
My first dress fitting is this weekend. I had planned for my mom and sister to go with me - we had made an appointment that worked with everyone’s schedule, and my dad was going to stay home and babysit my nephew. The plan was set, and I was happy (set plans do that to me).
Lest this be a simple story, let me further elaborate. When I had purchased my dress, I had it shipped to New Jersey; however, I live in New York. Well, my parents went to pick it up from my doorman today and it. was. ginormous. Wedding dresses can be voluminous, but this is how my mom described it:

We’re about 80 days out from our big day. We’ve been diligently working on our rehearsal dinner for three months. Jiggawhat?! Yes, it’s been a long journey and it’s NOT my fault that it took that long. We almost automatically knew where we wanted to have our rehearsal so about three months ago, I contacted them and our journey began…

Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN
Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Indiana Memorial Union
About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
As I was leaving work today, I called my mom to get an update on some vendor calls she made for me. She had two objectives: see how much lighting would cost and reserve the rental chairs for the ceremony and reception.
Let’s go backwards, though. When I first booked at the IMU, Ribs and I went to Bloomington to talk to the venue coordinator. I specifically asked about gold chivari chairs and she said she had some in her garage right now and they cost $3/chair. I knew that was a very low price, but assumed the IMU just had low prices! She also informed us the ceremony chairs would have to be rented from a company and gave us that number.

Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA
Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot
Engagement Date: February 21, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery
About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!
With less than 5 months until the wedding, I’ve been thinking about what things I plan to DIY for our wedding. I have a feeling these will change (read: I will nix some of them due to time contraints/laziness), but for now, here is my current list of DIY projects:
1. Save the Dates: Done! I don’t know if having your friend design them and then printing them online counts as DIY, but I think they fit into this category.

2. Favors: As of now, we plan to buy $1 Lotto scratchers, put them in glassine envelopes along with a penny, and seal them with a custom sticker. This seems like a pretty easy project to me!

Mrs. Octopus, Boston, MA/Pittsburgh, PA
Age and Occupation: 25, Grad Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Graphics Operator for TV News
Engagement Date: May 6th, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Heinz Chapel Ceremony, Museum Reception
About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
I remember exactly when I realized that I’d be really into the idea of a non-diamond engagement ring. Mr. Octopus and I were in the midst of a four-day vacation to San Francisco to celebrate the end of my first year of teaching (and any teacher could tell you it really is something to celebrate!). We were poking around an antique shop in the Castro when I spotted it: a display case of antique gemstone rings.
Mr. O and I really weren’t talking marriage at all yet then, but I even said something like, “if you’re ever thinking about asking me to marry you, I want a ring like that!”
Fast forward two years, and we had both realized that marriage was indeed in the cards for us.
Mr. Octopus was super-nervous about choosing the right engagement ring, and asked for some guidance, which I was more than happy to provide. After some research, my requests were: aquamarine, white gold, squarish-shaped, with a diamond halo.
Here’s what he came up with:

Mrs. Frozen Yogurt, Dallas
Age and Occupation: 28, Special Projects Coordinator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Equity Trader
Engagement Date: March 19, 2009
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: Marie Gabrielle, Dallas
About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, and have lived in several of the cities across the state, but I currently reside in Austin. I went to college in Boston and have a special place in my heart for the Northeast. I love reading, shopping, wine, reuniting with college friends that are scattered across the country, reality TV, trying out new recipes, and attempting all the DIY projects that come along with wedding planning. I'm a "bleeding heart, save the world type" and thankfully my job allows me to work on legislation and policy to help out those in need. I met Mr. Frozen Yogurt in a bar, though he doesn't even drink! And now we are planning a modern yet vintage wedding in Dallas while dealing with the trials and tribulations of first time homeownership.
So, I am extremely clumsy, and not in the cute Fergie way.

But for some reason I’m not worried about falling at the ceremony or tripping during the first dance, though maybe I should be.
However, I am terrified that I’m going to hurt myself in some unsuspecting way in the next 2 weeks. I’ve managed to make it this far with only a broken finger (which has healed nicely, by the way), but every day that we go hiking, I envision myself tripping over rocks or tree roots.

Mrs. Paisley, Orange County, CA
Age and Occupation: 25, Journalist
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Spanish Professor
Engagement Date: September 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Family Lake House
About Me: From my earliest days I attracted attention, as much for my intelligence as for beauty. I display an originality, a perspicacity, a certain je ne sais quoi that sets me apart. I posses a mysterious authority which compels people to do my bidding. I am a regal blonde with classic features and the daintiness of Dresden porcelain. I am poised, soft-spoken, and well educated... Okay, now that enough eyebrows have sufficiently shot through the roof, everybody can relax---I kid! I'm just a sarcastic NorCal-turned-SoCal girl who loves outdoor activities, books, letterpress printing and of course, Professor Paisley.
I’ve devised a unique way of displaying our escort cards: on a magnet mirror!
I first found this magnet mirror at one of my favorite home decor sites, Layla Grayce:

I did a Google search and up came the same product cheaper at other online retailers… score!
After procuring ribbon, eyelet escort cards from Martha Stewart that I found at Big Lots, and small butterfly magnets that I made, I put together 150 cute little magnet escort cards. They’re currently blank, awaiting names to be written.

Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA
Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer
Engagement Date: March 5, 2009
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA
About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
You know that saying, “Whatever can go wrong, will?” These are five words that terrify me.
Especially when it comes to our wedding.
In my everyday life, I have a back up plan for most things. Traffic on the way to work? Take the other route. The grocery store is sold out of the ingredients I need to make dinner? I’ve brought other recipes and ingredient lists to make something else. When we go on vacations, I’ve always got the phone number, directions and menus printed for back up restaurants, just in case one we’ve planed on eating at loses our reservations or is closed. Needless to say, I’m a planner to the max (as if you didn’t already know that about me)!
So of course, I’ve got to have contingency plans ready for when something on our big day goes wrong!
My mom and sister laughed at me when I sent them my list of the big things that might go wrong, and one or two alternative solutions for each. But I’m sticking by my opinion that this list will be massively important to have on our wedding day.

Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FL
Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer
Engagement Date: February 14, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club
About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
When I first started looking for bridesmaid’s dresses I knew one thing: I didn’t want to get them at David’s Bridal.
I know this is silly. David’s Bridal has about a bazillion dresses in hundreds of colors. I just felt that purchasing from David’s Bridal would be like buying from ’The Man’—a company built around playing on the emotions of brides and gorging the pockets of their bridesmaids (but what bridal store doesn’t do this?). Plus, purchasing bridesmaid’s dresses from a huge bridal warehouse didn’t really jive with me (and I thought their dresses were low quality for the price). Yes, I was crazy.
I was obsessed with finding a dress under $100 and one that my gals could wear again. I began my search online at Macy’s, Dillards, and Nordstrom. I thought it would be easy to find a light blue dress for our little garden wedding… but GEEZ I couldn’t find any dress remotely near the color I was looking for (or in the price range I was looking for).
While on one of my (many) trips to Solutions Bridal in Gainesville, I came across a beautiful Watters bridesmaid dress. But, once again, the price was a shocker coming in at about $204.

Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis
Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot
Engagement Date: February 15, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington
About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
Mr. A and I got engaged over a year ago (February 15, 2009 to be exact). For the average bride, picking a wedding date would have involved a one-year engagement, which if we had gone that route, would have us getting married about now. But, I’ve always wanted a fall wedding, for a few reasons. Mostly because fall in the Midwest is G-ORGEOUS. The colors are fantastic (see: engagement photos).

While we could have gotten married in Fall 2009, a 9 to 10 month engagement was too short for me.

Age and Occupation: 25, Operations Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Sales
Engagement Date: October 8, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010

About Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Most brides are on some type of budget, and wedding dreams sometimes need to be toned down or completely cut to make the budget work. When we started planning our dream Newport wedding, I had big ideas. I wanted it to be a weekend affair with events throughout. Then reality set in… we had to evaluate the budget. My dreams of additional events were toned down, and we had to figure out what would give us the most bang for our buck. We decided to go with a morning after brunch as a send off for our guests. I’m so excited about the brunch, but I would have loved to treat our guests to a welcome dinner in addition to the brunch. I had dreams of a traditional lobster bake. Can you imagine the possibilities?
I am in love with this rehearsal dinner shown on the Brian Phillips Photography blog. Click on the link to see more gorgeous photos!

Engagement Date: January 9, 2009
Wedding Date: July 2010
Venue: The Tower Club
About Me: I'm a Texa-Californian with a penchant for sparkly things and a tendency to think a lot. I've been known to sing random songs or dance when there is no music on. My fiance and I love world culture, we love to travel, and we have an incredibly eclectic taste in music. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate our marriage with our family & closest friends. We're planning an “urban black-tie” wedding and hope to incorporate our personalities and some of our own interests. We look forward to a life of love, laughter, good music, beautiful art, and to creating our home together with our four (!) cats.

My mother and I were invited to a wedding once; it was my mom’s co-worker and my mother had heard endless details about this wedding for over a year now. We drove an hour, parked our cars, climbed up a San Francisco hill by ourselves at night and rode an ancient elevator in a questionable building.
We were ushered into a room with no chairs and not enough food, and full of hungry people, and we stayed there — for two hours. We had no idea what was going on, until we heard someone say it:
