Like many brides-to-be, I have a Martha Stewart Weddings subscription. I was lucky enough to be gifted this must-have magazine from my FMIL when Mr. P and I got engaged. The subscription was placed under Mama Pudding’s Canadian address, since I was living with her at the time. Despite my migration south, the magazines still come to Mama P’s house, and I think of them as fun little surprises waiting for me when I come home.
I am visiting Mama Pudding this week, and using the time to catch up with Martha. As I was flipping through an old issue of the magazine, I spotted her! My wedding gown, in Martha Stewart! I couldn’t believe it! Sure, it was an ad for the designer, but still!
You see, the gown is made by a slightly lesser known label (San Patrick), and I have never before come across it anywhere in print or online. I haven’t even encountered another bride on the ’Bee that bought the same dress. Even after doing a Google image search, I was not able to find a single “real” bride in my dress. So seeing it now, in this most important of wedding magazines, got me really excited!

Flashback to eight months ago:
Mr. Sew: “So, what kind of wedding band do you want with your ring?”
Me: “Plain and simple, I think.”
Mr. Sew: “I saw these really cool stackable interlocking sets…”
Me: “Stackable? Nuu. That sounds like a Lego. I don’t want a Lego ring. How hokey!”
Mr. Sew: “No really! They were pretty cool.”
Me: “You say ’cool’ like you say robots are cool, or how the part-oven at work is cool. I don’t think I like that kind of cool on my finger for the rest of my life.”
Mr. Sew: “Hey, don’t hate it until you see what I’m talking about.”
Well, *sheepish grin*, Mr. Sew was right. Ring sets can be kind of cool, and not as hokey as whatever strange lego-block image I had pictured in my mind. I found my desired plain and simple white gold ring, with a small twist - it’s contoured to fit against my engagement ring.

David’s Bridal has done us good. After all of the hair-pulling, frustrating experiences of shopping for my girls, trying dress after dress, buying and returning, it’s been easy peasy now that DB is in the picture.
I wish I’d gone with them from the get-go.
Check out Maid of Honor Paisley in the winning dress:

She’s gorgeous!

On Saturday night we had my bachelorette party! It was a small group - 2 of my sisters and my good friend, Cathryn, and it was the perfect size. We started out the evening with a wonderful feast of bagel bites and buffalo chicken nuggets and threw a few cocktails into the mix. It was then time to decorate me with a light-up veil, light-up ring, Mardi Gras beads, and a sparkly ‘SEXY’ tattoo. There was also a shirt that was 10 sizes too big on me, so we decided to nix that idea.

Once I was looking like a good bachelorette should, I got to open my girly presents…

I’m not quite a die-hard fan of Vera Wang’s wedding dresses, but I am a fan of Vera herself. I remember when the Lifetime channel was getting into the wedding-TV craze, they would air a biography of her every so often, and I watched it nearly every time it was on.
When I heard her describe her latest line on the Martha Stewart Show “wedding” episode last spring, I thought it seemed uninspired. What bride wants to look like her dress just came from the washing machine??
But when it comes to individual dresses and ideas, Vera’s thought process is so interesting. Ivanka Trump’s beautiful dress got lots of people thinking twice about how beautiful & sexy one can be… without showing everything! Ivanka is pictured below, with her dress inspiration, Princess Grace.

In this video, Vera talks through her process for Ivanka’s dress, and makes some interesting points regarding chastity, class, and modesty in wedding dresses.

AAAIIEEEEEEEE!!! Hive, I cannot tell you how freaking giddy I am to be here! I have been an avid Weddingbee reader for a looooong time, and I am so excited to now have the chance to share my wedding with all of you! First things first, I guess I better introduce Mr. Octopus and myself.
Barely a month into my freshman year of college, my best friend dragged me to a grimy frat party because there was a guy there that she was absolutely sure I would like. She had met him in the university marching band (he was a tenor saxophonist, incidentally) and had been telling me about him for weeks, swearing up and down that he was just my type. I really didn’t want to go to the party because it would mean changing out of the ginormous pair of sweatpants I was wearing, but she was persuasive. I gave in, put some real pants on, and went. Unbeknownst to us, it was a toga party, and I showed up in a pink polo shirt. I felt pretty awkward, but my best friend was insistent, and she made the introduction between us.
Well, seven years later, I’m marrying the toga-clad wonder I met that night (and the friend who introduced us is a bridesmaid!).

**I’ll warn you ahead of time: this post includes a TON of pictures.
After we spent an entire day playing tourist in Cabo San Lucas, Mr. Beagle and I were more than ready to relax on a boat and indulge in some good food and drinks. Finally, after waiting by the dock, it was time to board the huge catamaran that would take us to see the famous arches.
By the time we left the harbor, the sun was on its way down, and there was a very nice breeze to cool us off. I still can’t get over how beautiful the water was.

Mr. Taco and I have similar taste, and decorating our shared apartment (which we’ve had for a year) was painless. So has crafting our wedding style, since he enthusiastically approved many things I forced him to look at sent his way. However, we still have disagreements over photos-of-people-as-decor: especially if they’re pictures of us. His general idea is that it’s weird to have framed pictures of the residents of a home in said home. It’s slightly less weird, but still weird to him, to have pictures of friends and family, also. I think his exact words were, “that’s what the fridge is for.”
I’ve done it a number of ways over the years. But my preferred method now is to keep a few engagement/wedding photos in the public, living spaces. Non-people art (paintings, graphic prints, non-photographic mementos from vacation) also live out there. Pictures of us with friends would, ideally, live in our bedroom. These include vacation and/or party photos, and one photo in an engraved frame (my BM present after A’s wedding).

Here comes the EXCITING part. Oh, I get so giddy wanting to tell you all how I found ‘the one’—the dress which set my little heart a flutter! It all started at the Solutions Bridal in Gainesville, FL. I walked in one (seriously HOT) afternoon to just ’browse’ their selection of dresses.

Photos of the Gainesville Location; taken from Solutions Bridal’s blog The Bridal Closet; look at the detail on those dresses! Oh my!
I was by myself and had no intention of trying on any dresses. Well… that plan lasted for all of 5 minutes. Kari (who later became my super awesome bridal consultant!) listened carefully for everything I was looking for in a wedding dress:

I had so much fun helping to plan Sister Starfish’s shower. After a lot of planning and DIY projects, the day came together perfectly.

The shower was hosted at the Langham Hotel in Boston. The room was so gorgeous, there wasn’t a need for a lot of decor, but that didn’t stop us from adding a few DIY details.

I really wanted the wedding to be a little different than what people expected, but when it came down to it, I couldn’t help but jump onto a couple of wedding bandwagons. I didn’t even waver back and forth, deciding whether or not I should jump onto the wagon or not. I chased it down and made it stop for me so I could get on. Oh well.
1. Candy Bar
Mr. Lace and I really love candy. We decided early on that our favor had to be useful (actually useful, not something people could use, but still would never use) or edible. We went with edible, since we love eating.
As much as I’d love to do something beautifully matched like this:
About three weeks ago, we met up with our wonderful photographer (and new friend) Chloe Murdoch, with Mike Larson Photography Inc., to take our engagement pictures. We had such a wonderful time getting to know Chloe and learning to be ourselves in front of the camera. As excited as I was about our shoot, both Mr. Turtle and I found ourselves pretty nervous that day since we’d never done anything like that before. We incorporated all three of our outfit choices (with some minor adjustments) and a few great props. We started out at our favorite ice cream parlor, followed by a swinging bridge, and ended the day in a beautiful field. Chloe posted a sneak preview of our pictures, and I’d love to share them with you!

From what I’ve seen/read/experienced, most guys aren’t that into the wedding planning. Of course, there are exceptions – like Mr. Sewing, who is MAKING Miss Sewing’s wedding gown (!!!). Amazing. But for most guys, the wedding planning world is scary, uncharted territory. I really feel that a lot of it has to do with basic differences between girls and guys. Whereas girls tend to be more detail oriented, most guys just want to get things done, and would rather not spend hours mulling over the perfect shade of lavender (my guy didn’t know what color lavender was until high school – sorry babe!
).
