Last summer I had the opportunity to accompany a courageous friend to her boudoir shoot. Many brides choose to do a boudoir shoot before their wedding day, but my friend’s wedding day has come and gone, so she has chosen to give the photos as a gift to her husband (lucky him!). I had been nervous about doing a boudoir shoot for quite some time, but knew that this was something I might want to do for my hubby-to-be. There is just something about skimping down to my undies for a photographer I don’t know that sort of creeps me out. So, my friend (we will call her the ’guinea pig’) was testing the waters for me.
The photographer we went with was Jaime from Sweet Serendipity Photography out of Gainesville, FL. Jaime held what she calls a “Rockstar Session” at the The Camelia Rose Inn (a local bed and breakfast) in the ’Anticipation’ room (by the way, super awesome room). I have to say we were both incredibly nervous going into this, but Jaime and her sister were incredibly nice and easy-going. We turned up some tunes and handed my friend (the guinea pig) some champagne as she posed (tastefully!) in her lingerie.
Before diving head first into a boudoir shoot, you will need to find some inspiration…

[ Me, Momma Poodle, Sister Poodle ]
If you remember, in my last post I asked to everyone to wish us luck because my mom’s second visa interview was this week. Well, thank you hive!! All the prayers and good energy you all sent our way finally paid off and she will be in sunny California in just a few days!!

Mr. Lace and I are huge fans of So You Think You Can Dance. Many of the dancers are so talented and able to dance so many different styles. Sometimes, I’ll watch and think to myself, ‘I’m not even sure which muscles to move to do that.’
I must live vicariously through them because I am NOT a dancer. I’ve got rhythm. I can hear a beat. But I have no spatial kinesthetic intelligence. I just don’t. I can do a couple of basic dance moves and do goofy moves, but let’s just be real here. I suck at dancing.
In addition to that, Mr. Lace is not the kind of guy who likes everyone looking at him. He doesn’t like to be in the spotlight (I realize this will be a bit of an issue come the wedding day).
So, when we were working through our schedule and got to first dance, we quickly skipped it and said we’d come back to it later.
I don’t want to make a fool of myself.

The only sport I understand and care about is baseball, so my sports-fandom is a blissfully limited one. (Go, Giants.) I went to the University of California at Davis. While it dominated Division II sports during my time there, you could still find a good bit of people, including myself, who only went to a few games during their college years.
Conversely, Mr. Taco is from Texas. (Can you see where this is going?) He’s actually not huge into pro sports, college football, or Texas itself, but the rest of the state is hardcore about all of the above. Shapes of Texas, stars, and longhorn-cattle outlines are all over the state. Parents-in-law (and Mr. Taco, for that matter) went to the University of Texas at Austin; they’ve got me hook-em, horns-ing at every turn. MIL Taco worked at Texas Christian University for 20 years, and she has the most impressive purple wardrobe I’ve ever seen.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”

As it was nearing the end of the night, and festivities were winding down, I suddenly realized that I was exhausted. Beyond exhausted. Like, falling down on the floor and sleeping right there exhausted. I felt like collapsing. Apparently someone agreed:

Since I’m free as a bird this week thanks to Spring Break (woo hoo!) I took the opportunity to shop for our welcome reception the night before the wedding. For some reason, I’ve really been looking forward to shopping for this dress, so I’ve had to restrain myself from starting my search too early and made myself wait until April to start looking. Yesterday was April 1st, so off I went!
Back in March, Mr Trail Mix and his dad went shopping for his tie for the wedding. They returned with two ties that cost… well, more than all of my wedding accessories combined. Ever the champion of equality between men and women, I decided that I was going to (just this once!) abandon my Loehmann-friendly, cheapo-bride ways and therefore gave myself no budget for this dress. Let the fun times roll.
I went with a girlfriend and we hit up Bloomingdale’s and Anthropologie. I also managed to remember my camera and had my friend take pics of our favorites. I probably tried on close to 20 dresses but I won’t bore you with them all. Also, please excuse the terrible quality of the photos, dressing room artificial lighting is horrendous.
OK, are you ready for some serious dress shopping pics? Here are my top contenders:

So, with about 2 weeks to go, I’m finding myself stressed, irritable and a wee bit on edge. Unfortunately, Mr. Fro Yo can sometimes take the brunt of that frustration. Actually, yesterday was the perfect example of that.
Let me give you a visual: We were walking the dogs, I was whitening my teeth with Crest Whitestrips, and yelling with a lisp (due to aforementioned Whitestrips) about how I don’t feel he fully supports me when it comes to planning the wedding. He said something about when did a bee get in my bonnet, or something about a bee and a bonnet and I could not stop laughing because it was so hilarious. Who says that? I felt like I was having an argument with my grandmother. So now I’m laughing, and my Whitestrips are falling off, and I look ridiculous. But it was good for us, because it broke the tension, and then we went about the day.

Today, Hive Hostess Bellenga shows us how she created spring themed fairy wands for her flower girls!
~~~
Many of you know I love all things Martha Stewart. In fact I absolutely adored the idea of having flower girl wands and saw the picture of them in her most recent wedding magazine, but wanted to do a different twist on them.
Since my flower girls are younger, I chose to use short wooden dowels, so the girls could carry them in front, similar to a bouquet, and have the ribbons move with them as they walked. I wanted movement and interest created as they skipped down the aisle! Next, I wanted to evoke images of a wand worthy of Tinkerbell, and decided the majority of the wooden dowel, except for the area I was to decorate on the very top and immediately below, was to look like it was a satin green stem of a flower!
Grassy green, ivory, and pinkish-coral shimmery ribbons, ivory paper flowers, green satin ribbon, wooden dowel, and ivory and yellow and pink with a hint of green faux rose petals came alive in my basket at Michaels and my creativity began to go wild!
Here is how I created the wands:
We were inspired by this bouquet from Martha Stewart and the Today show throw a Wedding’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s themed wedding. After seeing this, we knew we had to add the pearl embellishments. So after throwing around some ideas, we came up with roses for being classic, hydrangeas just because we love them, pearl embellishments, and white ribbon like the ones they use to wrap the little blue boxes at Tiffany’s.
Sorry for the brief hiatus, but I had spring break so Mr. Lace and I took a mini-vacay to Phoenix and Las Vegas with his sister. We are back and wedding planning was supposed to be in full swing as soon as we returned.
Well, we returned and I turned on my computer and Mr. Lace fell asleep in the middle of going over the day of schedule. I would get mad except that he spent the past 8 days driving around all over the place so I will give him his nap while I blog!
Anyway, as I was going over the schedule, there so many decisions to be made. Between “hair and makeup with Kelly” and “say goodbye to guests,” there are a few things that need to be happening.
Decision #1: The First Look
When I first explained the idea of the first look to Mr. Lace, there was complete silence.
Me: So, I have our first look at 1:30 PM
Mr. Lace: Okay.
Me: Do you know what that means?
Mr. Lace: No. Do I need to do something?
Mr. Turtle and I have been engaged long enough for me to have seen a lot of engagement photo shoots. When it came time for us to get ours done a few weeks ago, we found it really difficult to narrow down all of the ideas we’d had!
Outfits were the easy part for us! As you might have sensed already, the Turtles love their clothes!
First: “The Vintage Look”
Before I arrive at the moment when I tell you about how I found the dress, I feel a little back story on my search for ’the one’ is important. As some of you know, Mr. Dolphin and I had been engaged for 1 1/2 years before I bought my dress. Throughout our long engagement, I scoured the Internet and bridal magazines for wedding dresses, telling myself I was not allowed to try on any dresses until we hit the 1-year mark (’til our wedding). I kept that promise to myself and went shopping the exact weekend of our 1 year countdown; and, just like that, I found the dress of my dreams—the dress that made my heart swoon!
Here was the criteria when looking for the dress of my little Dolphin dreams:
And Mr. Dolphin’s Criterion? That he could feel my butt through the dress. No poof-y dresses. What can I say, Mr. Dolphin is a booty man!
I haven’t shared the hot stuff, so check it. We Hot Wings got our rings over the holiday break when we visited my familia in San Diego. We went to local Vietnamese jewelry shops—they were super budget friendly. But be ready to negotiate! Mama Hot Wings did it all for us. Mama Hot Wings has been buying her jewelry from Kim Quang since forever and a day ago, so we trusted them with this purchase, too.
