I re-look at pictures all the time. I like taking pictures, going places with people I like, and then reliving life’s most favorite experiences constantly through the computer screen. I go through Picasa albums over and over again just to remember what a great time I had at x place at y time with z people. It helps when I’m in a vacation drought or even if I’m having a stressy day, since scrolling through old pictures is a far healthier alternative to throwing my laptop out the office window.
May Bride S had her engagement photo session recently, prompting me to remember our own marathon photo shoot all those months ago (it feels like years). Them being magical photographs, I look at them a little differently every time. I therefore came upon a few others that made me happiest today, which was definitely the point investing in them. We got a couple framed ones, now gracing a shelf in our living room, from A for Christmas. But these lovely moments won’t go anywhere else beyond the save-the-dates, the guestbook table, and the wedding scrapbook (LOVE scrapbooking, BTW). However, they (and our wedding photos) will surely run the digital paces whenever I feel like calling them up. Do any other photophiles do the same?

Music. The easiest decision of our wedding. Actually, it’s something we decided on before we were even engaged. Contra dance!
Those of you who haven’t spent much time in New England might not be too familiar with this form of dance. Picture square dancing in long lines where you switch partners all the time and every man you dance with tries to prove how macho he is by spinning you faster and faster. It’s so fun.

Since a few of our major vendors are already booked, I thought I’d post something about the selection process. Anybody else remember this song?
“On & on, and on and on…”
I thought (for about 5 minutes) about having an iPod reception (especially since I was initially in “garden wedding” mode), but I gave up on that idea quickly. There are just too many variables, and asking a friend to DJ our wedding instead of being an actual guest seemed kind of sad, and we didn’t have anyone we thought would volunteer.

When we created our RSVP cards, we had our friends and family in mind – they’re fun and wacky and get our good-humored nature. I have to say, getting the cards back is so much fun, it feels like every day is my birthday when I check the mail. And here are some of my favorite responses thus far…

The next one is from my friend asking for us to do the 2 things that make her double over in laughter. The slide and the slinky are little ‘dances’ that never fail to make her laugh…

Has anyone else used Costco.com for flowers? They are pretty awesome. I had considered a couple other sites to order flowers for Sister Starfish’s shower, but ultimately felt comfortable using Costco since I’ve used them for all my other bulk purchasing needs in life (anyone else Scrapbook? If you use lots of glue sticks, Costco’s bulk packs are amazing!). I have also purchased flowers in the Costco stores before and I’ve always been happy with the purchases. The only drawback is that you have to be a member.
The flowers came in and they were not quite what I expected them to be. Starfish Mom and Mr. Starfish were both home the day they arrived.

Here’s Starfish dog, aka Sky, guarding the flowers.
Hive… I’ve had a revelation! I know that we’re only about two months out until our wedding, but we’ve decided to make some huge changes! I was shopping the other day, and I came across the most AMAZING venue. I couldn’t believe our good luck; we were able to get our deposit back from Carlouel and book this venue… it is my fairytale DREAM come true! Seriously… take a look!!!

After the family portraits we dismissed our families and bridal party to enjoy cocktail hour while Mr Frenchie and I took our first photos alone as husband and wife. (Eeee calling him my husband still makes me giddy.)
We walked around the winery taking pictures in areas I’d dreamt of taking wedding pictures since the first time Mr Frenchie and I visited the winery years ago. Of course, we had to take a picture with the winery’s sign.
As I mentioned, there were a couple areas I’d dreamt of taking our wedding pictures; my favorite was this walkway in the middle of the winery.

Mr Pretzel and I went through multiple design iterations of our pew lantern clusters. After fussing with knots and different types of glue we finally hauled out the sewing machine. Lets break it down.

Supplies needed:
Suits. Probably one of the biggest wedding headaches thus far, both on account of Mr. Sew’s inability to fit into anything and his chronic fear of clothing stores that kept him from even attempting to find something.
Mr. Sew: “Can’t I just wear the suit I already have?”
What? WHAT?
Me: “You… already… have a… suit?”
Mr. Sew: “Yeah. It’s custom fitted from Hawaii, I wore it once to my job interview.”
Me: “You… already… have… a… suit…”
Mr. Sew: *blank stare* “Yes…”
Mr. Sew ran upstairs and looked into that magical closet of his, and what-do-you-know… one custom-fitted, black, practically-brand-new suit!
I had no idea!
Taco, May Bride S, and two of her fellow BMs went to Cabo San Lucas in March for S’s bachelorette trip.
It was a great excursion, full of margaritas, pina coladas, beach time, and numerous assumptions that we wanted a Girls Gone Wild style of party experience. I’m not so into publicly wearing naughty bachelorette goodies and approaching creepy men in bars, so I completely understood S’s desire to just chillax for a few days with the girls.

For as long as I’ve been dreaming of my wedding (and I’ll be honest, it was long before I got engaged. I was totally that girl), I’ve always pictured my ceremony outside. I based our entire venue search around that criteria.
Nature is the only thing that inspires any sort of spirituality within me and is what moves me (sometimes to tears, although given my emotional state lately, that’s not saying that much).
So when I went to out venue walk-through with our on-site coordinator at the Tannery Pond, it was to figure out where was the best place to hold the outdoor ceremony, as well as work out logistics for the reception tent. Just to cover all my bases, the coordinator showed me our back-up ceremony location, if there’s bad weather.
And, my friends, I was shocked to realize that I kinda, sorta, maybe fell in love with it.
The Tannery is this incredible, old Shaker building with exposed wooden beams, tons of small-paned windows, long wooden benches and the smell of cedar in the air. It’s rustic without being cliche and simple but oh-so-gorgeous.

Well, not yet. Our wedding is actually 100 days from today. So technically, we will be in the double digits tomorrow.
Where did all the time go? When we got engaged in August 2008, the wedding seemed a lifetime away. I have to admit that I was upset about the fact that I would have to wait so long to walk down the aisle. I tried to twist our timeline any which way to get the date bumped up, but it just wasn’t possible.
Now that the wedding is just around the corner, I find myself wishing that I had more time. I even (jokingly) asked Mr. Pudding if he would mind postponing.
To be honest, I am feeling a little unprepared. There is still so much to do, wedding wise, but my fears go beyond that. I’m feeling a little bit unprepared for this “married” part - for this part when I officially leave my family to begin one of my own - the part where I become an adult.
Yes, I realize that I am 27 years old.

At first I was frustrated. Scratch that, I AM still frustrated, to be perfectly honest, that I can’t just select an adorable frock for my bridesmaids from my favorite store, Anthropologie. Or perhaps one of the dressier, cute options at my second favorite store, ModCloth.
I mean, that’s what I’d always intended to do, in my caviar dreams of what my wedding would be like. Back in the days when I felt as though I held a magic wand in my sweet little paws. A magic wand that with a flick of the wrist would send make-everything-pretty dust all across Paisley weddingdom.
I merrily selected my bridal party, and then realized: my favorite stores don’t have the right sizes for my best girls!
The nerve! I mean, I’m truly offended.
It really sucks that my best ladies, and many ladies around the world, can’t just walk into any store they please and pick out a cute dress.
The past 10 months (I am not exaggerating) has been an exercise for me in life as an above-size-20 lady.

Last summer, about 11 months out from our wedding (I know… I was an early girl), I designed and ordered our guestbook through Blurb. I was a very busy bride getting together details for Mr. Dolphin and my nuptials this May (less then 2 months away, EEK!). And with that, I didn’t want to go with the typical wedding guestbook. You know, the one where everyone just signs their name, kind of like they are checking into your wedding, like it’s a hotel. So begins the story of our guest book.
I wanted something where guests could leave more then just their name. I hope for guests to leave messages for us. So, when looking through all the ways of making a non-typical guestbook I decided on using our engagement photos and compiling them into a Blurb book (ohhh another way to use them in our wedding… boy am I sneaky! After all the Starks did such an awesome job… how could I pass up using them?).
After downloading the Blurb software, it was super easy putting the book together. And when I say super easy… I mean SUPER easy.
Check out our guestbook’s awesomeness below: *all photography by yours truly

If you have vintage taste and a pauper’s budget, there are alternatives to the albeit lovely, but expensive Posh Girl Vintage and similar type shops. Of course there are local thrift stores, eBay, grandmothers’ closets, and Etsy, as well as vintage patterns waiting to materialize at the next sewer’s whim, though it can be a chore to sort through. However, the reward is pretty great for those persevering enough.
I’ve always loved vintage and antiques, so I thought I would share the process I recently went through while completing a fashion challenge of sorts. I was looking for a vintage inspired wedding outfit that was under $100 and would pack easily for a plane ride. The entire process took about three weeks, and I searched every day for new items on eBay and Etsy. On the last day I had to order items if I wanted them to ship in time, I ran across 3 perfect pieces (that’s part of the process - hit or miss and then JACKPOT!).
First I searched for the dress because all of the other accessories depended on the era, shape, and texture. I used “white dress small” as the search terms in the vintage section of Etsy. I sifted through roughly 35 pages and marked potentials as favorites to return to later. As soon as I found this little number, I knew that I really had something that I could build a vision around.
