Two weeks after Mr. Guinea Pig and I get married, my parents will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. They’ve been pretty awesome role models for me, both as individuals and in terms of marriage, and I’ve always admired their ability to overcome whatever obstacles are thrown their way, together.
35 years ago, my parents got all gussied up and went through the tradition Mr. GP and I are about to embark on.

(Mom and Dad Guinea Pig, 35 years ago - they look SO happy! Also, Dad GP looked a lot like Abraham Lincoln
)
See Mom GP’s beautiful all-lace dress? I’m pretty thrilled to say that I get to carry a piece of it with me on my wedding day!

First dance jitters? A thing of the past! I wanted to follow it up with a cartwheel, back flip, fist pump, anything to express my absolute joy knowing that our first dance was the last planning detail to come to fruition. I was coasting from here. ![]()
The rest was all Mr Piglet. He had taken charge of the reception details from here on out. First up, his thank you speech. He took the mic and stood front and center. Unlike his blabbering wife, he’s an incredible public speaker. A speech from Mr Piglet always tells a story. It always comes from the heart. And it never feels rehearsed. This one was no exception. We never expected so many of our friends to trek it to Hawaii, but they did. Mr Piglet thanked them over and over. The day may have been in honor of us, but the celebration wouldn’t have felt like a true celebration without them.

Mr Piglet followed up his speech with the same speech translated in Korean. His Korean is impressive when conversing casually. But when speaking in a formal tone, it’s a bit of a struggle.

Mr. O and I have been making wedding planning magic left and right these days, but before I get to that, I realized that I have yet another weird body-related issue to overshare with you all. (Oh, I already told you about my nail-biting and my bouts of fainting, but yes, there’s MORE!)
Bridesmaid Erica’s wedding is coming up very, very shortly, and in thinking about the dresses she chose for us to wear…
Beautiful, huh? It’s made by Laundry by Shelli Segal. (Source)
… I also started thinking about my arms, and the fact that they are going to be bare, and also photographed, all day long.

Hello ladies (and gents?). Tomorrow is the big day… that’s right. My hair and makeup trial. Can I tell you that I’m completely petrified? No, no, not of my fabulous hair and makeup artist, Kelly Zhang. She did my hair and makeup for my engagement photos and I loved it. I literally went in with no pictures and no make up and told her I wanted my hair, “down… or up… or what do you think will look good?” She is a miracle worker. I would be completely mortified to post my before and after from that session because I literally woke up and walked in. But, I am petrified that I am not as good-looking as the picture-perfect brides below!
When I contacted Kelly to schedule my trial, I was thinking I’d go in, tell her “I want it up” or “I want it down” and that would be the end of that. But, she asked me to bring in some photos of hair and makeup that I liked and a picture of me in my dress so she could try to style my overall look. So, I began looking.
Can I just say that there are a LOT of wedding hair photos out there? So many that I would start looking and after about an hour, my eyes would glaze over and I’d have to turn off the computer.
So, after a LOT of looking, here are my inspiration photos:

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
As all couples do, Frogger and I really look forward to the downtime we have together at the end of the day. I enjoy cooking and he enjoys eating so it really works out well.
The other night I came to realize that we have these little rituals that I had never really taken notice of in the past. For example, when I’m in the mood to try an experiment with dinner, he always asks if I’d like him to write it down. I’ve always enjoyed tinkering in the kitchen and when a recipe I made up would come out well, he would immediately say, “Write it down!!” Of course, you know where this is going: I would put it off because I wanted to relax, watch TV, read, blog, (fill-in-the-blank excuse) and then the next day I would have forgotten a good portion of what I did to create the delicious meal we had enjoyed the night before.
We finally got in the habit of keeping a recipe book of sorts (we started with one of those yellow legal pads, then after filling it completely and virtually destroying it with food splatters, we decided a notebook with a cover would be a better choice – we’re geniuses, I tell you). Fast-forward to the present, and we now have a routine down pat—I start cooking and tell him what I’m doing, he sits in the living room and writes it down for me while pretending to not watch whatever sporting event is on TV. It’s a great way to feel like we both have a hand in creating the meal… and I have to say, my favorite part is the fact that (on his own) he decided to start drawing (I use that term very loosely) little pictures of the meal on the recipe page. He’s going to kill me… but I HAVE to show you what I mean:

Alright, I know it wasn’t very nice of me to tease you by not showing you my DIY wedding shoes in my last post, but I wanted to build up to the big reveal!
And I think I’m going to do things a little differently with this DIY reveal. Usually I like to show the ’how to’ steps first, and then show the final product, but I think it will make a little more sense to show off the fabulous shoes first, and then do a follow up on how to make them. Sound good?
OK then! So, to answer my own question from the last post, I was inspired by a combo of the Viktor & Rolf shoes with the fabric flowers all over the shoes, and the Nina shoes, with the big flower on the ankle of the shoe. After looking at them more and more, I sent a picture of the shoes to my mom and sister, in an email titled something like, “Am I crazy, or could I make something like this myself?” And so I did, with a lot of help from my mom.
Here they are… my ribbon flower wedding shoes!

Well, I have been listening to TONS of songs today. Mostly because Mr. Dolphin is as work, and I miss him (I know… I’m such a sap!). Our first dance song for our wedding has changed quite a few times and I think it is about to change again—there are just so many songs that Mr. Dolphin and I listen to, connect to, and love.
Sunny MOH, Seminole Bridesmaid and Gator Bridesmaid dancing their first dances with their husbands. I had to include this. Aren’t they all such beautiful brides?!
The first song Mr. Dolphin and I ever chose for our first dance was “I’m Your’s” by Jason Mraz. It is just so sweet, mellow and chill, everything Mr. Dolphin and I ♥. We will still be playing the song at our wedding for sure… and it still isn’t completely out of the running.

When Mr. Starfish and I were first talking about marriage, I was pretty sad at the thought of having no children in our wedding. There just weren’t any kids we were super close to at the time and we didn’t want to choose random kids to be in our wedding.

The week after Sister Starfish got engaged, Brother Starfish called the family to let us know that Sister Starfish would have a little ring bearer or flower girl in her wedding (and yes, that is how he announced his baby to our family).
It’s official. Mr. Pencils and I have less than 5 days until we get hitched. This past week and weekend has been chock full of finalizing projects with more to come.
First up, I’d like to share the completed table “numbers”. To align with our travel theme, guests will be seated at places that Mr. P and I have traveled to together. These go with the luggage tags that I’ll reveal later this week, hee hee.
Most of the table frames were successes:
I always thought I’d be the kind of bride lugging one of these things around everywhere I went:
But, alas, I haven’t so much as bought one wedding-organizing-anything. It’s so not me! I imagined papers, receipts, and magazine snippets clogging a (neatly) overstuffed wedding binder. I just adore folders, labels, paper clips, and ultra fine point Sharpies. The just make me smile. I’m smiling as I write this.
So, where’s all my “stuff” you ask? Right here:

Hi bees! Remember me?! After six months of marriage I’m finally back on the blogging horse and hope you’re still looking forward to some sunny recaps! It’s hard to believe Mr. Sunbeam and I have already hit our six month mark. I feel like the wedding was just yesterday and still think about squeezing back into my wedding dress now and then. Of course that would probably mean I’d have to admit I’ve packed on a few post-bridal pounds… so I’ll leave it on the hanger and admire it from a distance!

On a side note, Mrs Joey just informed me that yesterday was National Pretzel Day. Hooray! Who knew that the Pretzel had its own day? According to this source:
It started 27 years ago, in 1983, when a Pennsylvania congressman wanted a special day named for his favorite food. The tradition has since spread across the country, although it’s not officially recognized. The average person eats about 1.5 lbs. of pretzels each year. They’ve been around since the 7th century when they were invented in Italy.
OK! Back to the task at hand. My WeddingWire task list keeps reminding me to start looking for hair inspiration. We have under 80 days until the wedding and apparently I should be worried about hair. SHOULD. In reality I’m worried about:

Occasionally when people ask what our wedding color scheme is and I reply, “red and purple,” I get a mega-hairy eyeball.
Getting a decidedly unenthusiastic response to the ideas I’m envisioning often causes me to second-guess myself. I know that I have a good general sense of aesthetics, but I’m also not the effortlessly super-hip friend who is always rocking an awesome vintage skirt with the perfect accessories from Anthropologie, you know what I mean? Sometimes, to be honest, I feel unsure of my own judgment in matters of taste and style.
