Engagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: August 2010Venue: Family Ranch outside Glenrock, WYAbout Me: I'm a city girl by birth and rural girl by choice. I'm ready to take on the world with a big heart and a big smile! I love all things crafty and DIY. I live in Cheyenne, WY with Mr. HD and our 2 fur babies, our dachshunds, Ollie and Mia. I love travel, adventure, Finding Nemo, '90s music, animals, and laughing. He is the cheese to my macaroni and together we spend more time watching movies than we probably should! I'm an old soul who is super duper excited to pull off our down home-rustic-chic-country wedding (on the cheap)!
A while ago I was mindlessly wandering through Hobby Lobby, as I’ve taken to doing quite often, and found the Valentine’s Day leftovers on a clearance table. Among the red and pink doilies, I found these:

The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
… with our wedding photographer. Literally. Truly, madly, hopelessly obsessed. I looooooove her.
It all started in 2006. A girl in my sorority (a few pledge classes behind me whom I barely knew) got married and posted a link to her wedding slideshow on Facebook. It was phenomenal. Being a girl who never cries, I knew something was up when the photos left me teary-eyed. Next, I found the link to the photographer’s blog and took a peek from time to time. The talent behind the camera was Carmen Nauseef from Blink of an Eye Photography.
Time passed, and as it became more clear to me that my then-boyfriend now-fiance and I were heading toward marriage, I decided that I didn’t just want Carmen to photograph our wedding I had to have her photograph the wedding.
Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FLAge and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface DeveloperEngagement Date: February 14, 2008Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: Plantation Bay Country ClubAbout Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
After seeing a post by Mrs. Taffy on DIY drink flags, I knew I wanted to do them for our wedding. They are super easy to do and will make a nice little detail for our wedding.
Katiebirdbee is selling three Melissa Sweet bridesmaid dresses. The cream and brown dresses (size 2, 4 and 6) are style MS 110, with cotton lace bodices, silk crinkle skirts and under-bust sashes. She’s asking $150 each.

Mrs. Spaniel, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 28, Law StudentFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, PsychologistWedding Date: March 2010Venue: Calamigos RanchAbout Me: I'm a third-year law student trying to balance graduating with starting my career, keeping up a relationship, and, oh yeah, planning an Old World, multi-cultural, "mountain lodge" wedding for 180 guests! A South Asian Jewish girl getting ready to marry my handsome Catholic Dane, I'm hoping to blend our cultures in our wedding just a bit more gently than by providing samosas as appetizers and offering æbleskiver for dessert. (Although that would also be awesome.)
Hello, ’Hive! It’s time for another installment of…
On Thursday morning, we started to make our way down to our next stop, the Tickle Pink Inn in Carmel. This leg of our trip was a wedding gift from the Spaniel-in-laws, who stayed at the same hotel on their own honeymoon thirty-five years ago. Read more…
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Recently I updated letting you know that the girls had found their dresses. What I forgot to mention was the fact that right before we placed the order, we got a great surprise…

Mrs. Oyster, DallasAge and Occupation: 30, Music TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 46, Art TeacherEngagement Date: January 9, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: The Tower ClubAbout Me: I'm a Texa-Californian with a penchant for sparkly things and a tendency to think a lot. I've been known to sing random songs or dance when there is no music on. My fiance and I love world culture, we love to travel, and we have an incredibly eclectic taste in music. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate our marriage with our family & closest friends. We're planning an “urban black-tie” wedding and hope to incorporate our personalities and some of our own interests. We look forward to a life of love, laughter, good music, beautiful art, and to creating our home together with our four (!) cats.
My favorite scene in just about any wedding movie, ever, starts at about 03:00:
For some, weddings call to mind many “Father of the Bride” type images, but in my family, it’s the women that really hold it all together. We are very close knit. Here we are nearly 10 years ago, at my senior piano recital in college. There are four generations represented here. I am in the blue dress. Sadly, my great grandmother (on the far right) died a few years after this picture was taken.
Mrs. Pug, New York City/Half Moon Bay, CAAge and Occupation: 33, LawyerFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, dittoEngagement Date: July 2008Wedding Date: March 2010Venue: Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon BayAbout Me: The Mr. and I are two 30-somethings who enjoy tasty sweets of all kinds, our neighborhood wine store, and cuddling with our pug. NYC is where we live and the city we love, but we’re doing the deed out in Northern California. We are trying to keep the affair small, intimate, and manageable. Our motto is: the less people, the better! (I’m kidding.)
I came across some pictures that were taken in the few days leading up to the wedding that, as a montage, I title, “No Really Honey, I’m So Excited to Marry You.”
As I mentioned, we went to San Francisco City Hall the Thursday before the wedding. It’s a gorgeous building.

About Me: I am a tree-huggin' farmer turned enthusiastic wedding-planner. I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.
Although Mr. Veggie and I don’t agree on everything (really?), we did have a very sure vision of what we wanted in regards to our wedding menu.
Food is a big deal to us. On a scale of “happily apathetic” to “crazily vigilant”, we probably are just about a hair shy of the “c-v” mark—passionately vigilant, perhaps? Food-issues including organics, growing, subsidies, transportation, ethical production models, the corporatization of food, packaging, and waste (to name a few) impact our every-day decisions. By no means do we do everything right. I do have a soft spot for Cheez-Its, which thankfully are not sold in New Zealand, because I honestly cannot resist their awesome deliciousness. But, we are organic veggie farmers and growing food is a big part of our life.
In our lovey-dovey first dating bliss, we had envisioned growing all of the food for our wedding, including raising any animals we might want for meat. That was before we started planning a wedding half-way around the world. I’m pretty sure they don’t allow halves of cows in checked baggage, and I’m not carrying that sucker on, so growing our own food is a bit out of the question. As they say though, when one door shuts… Read more…

Mrs. Frog, Phoenix, AZ/Chelan, WA
Age and Occupation: 29, Public Relations
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Online SalesEngagement Date: February 8, 2009Wedding Date: July 2010Venue: Amy's ManorAbout Me: I'm an opinionated Midwestern girl now living in the Valley of the Sun marrying a laid back Northwestern guy. I'm equal parts sass, silly and sweet. I'm fiercely loyal with a strong devotion to my family and friends. I have a not-so-secret obsession with apple juice, a new obsession with DIY projects and I love a really good cheese plate...with lots of wine. After 7 blissful years of dating, I'm having the time of my life planning the destination wedding of my dreams to my Mr. Frog-turned-Prince Charming.
I’m such a sucker for romance. The idea of your beloved carving your initials into a tree to live on forever is just so incredibly sweet… although my eco-friendly self isn’t on board.
Now you can have that same romantic feeling and love Mother Nature at the same time! If you haven’t discovered The Kissing Tree over at Kiss The Groom, you MUST go check it out. You can personalize it with your names and the “affection” you share. Le sigh.
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and PromotionsFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior DesignerEngagement Date: March 5, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CAAbout Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
I know, I know, it’s been a while since I’ve written about shoes. I sort of left you all hanging after describing just how obsessed with shoes I am, and then my dilemma about the perfect shoes that weren’t.
You all were so amazingly helpful in convincing me to not wear shoes that were too big and possibly ruining them by changing their color. And you guys sent me some amazing shoe possibilities too, which I really appreciated!
After my last post, I continued my hunt for the perfect shoes, looking into some of the ones the hive sent me, and also looking at some more expensive designer shoes.
In the meantime, my mom emailed me this funny story, about just how early my shoe obsession began:
“When you were about 18 months old, you and your dad went with me to shop for shoes. You were in your stroller and you were fascinated with all the shoes. After we crisscrossed the mall, going to several shoe stores, we looked down and you were holding a bright pink high heeled pump. After checking, we determined that the pump wasn’t sold in that store. We backtracked until we finally found the right store. Quietly, we replaced the shoe on the rack and quickly exited the store. Thus, your obsession with shoes began and has grown over the past 25 years.”
See? Even as a baby, I loved awesome heels!
So, I continued on with my search for the most perfect, jaw-dropping, amazing, “OMG I’ve never seen such unique shoes” in purple. Read more…
Mrs. Trail Mix, New YorkAge and Occupation: 26, PE TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA StudentEngagement Date: March 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow SchoolAbout Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
Hooray! Our wedding bands have finally arrived! And I am head-over-heels in love. I keep sneaking peeks into the box and wearing it when Mr Trail Mix isn’t looking.
Way back in November, I asked you all for your opinion on what I should do for a wedding band. I ultimately decided not to go with the matching band for my ring (even though that was definitely the most popular option) because I like to keep everyone on their toes and go with the unexpected.
I’ve always been partial to mixed metals so when FIL Trail Mix offered me a yellow gold band that was his mother’s (e.g. Mr TM’s grandmother’s) I fell in love. The simplicity and elegance of it fit my style perfectly.
Plus, in Jewish wedding tradition, the band is supposed to be plain (e.g. without diamonds in it) because there should be no holes in your love (although, let’s be honest, for me, the more diamonds there are in my life, the more I love Mr Trail Mix, haha!).
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, INAge and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firmFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Indiana Memorial UnionAbout Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
So, I created a template in InDesign and copied all of the names of invitees. While it’d save some paper and energy to wait for the full list of replies, I’ve decided getting this little project out of the way was more important. Sorry Earth Day.
I printed the templates onto some lightweight cardstock and revisited my evil paper cutter. Read more…

About Me: When my best friend dragged me to a toga party in our freshmen year of college, I was not expecting to meet my future husband; but seven years later, here we are. I'm a crazy-organized planner at heart, and I am a great lover of random trivia, books, chocolate, blogs, new and exciting adventures, mockumentary-style television, and anything heavily flavored with bright orange fake cheese powder. We're planning a festive and fun mini-destination wedding in the place where we met: fabulous Pittsburgh, PA! I can't wait to marry the man I love!
“Picking” the groomsmen’s outfits was, if you can believe it, an even simpler process than our one-and-done bridesmaids’ dress search. I say “picking” because, actually, I’m leaving it almost completely up to them. I’ve been to two weddings in the last year in which the groomsmen just wore color-coordinated suits of their own choosing, and both times, it looked really simple and classic.
I also preferred this route because, if I can be totally honest, I don’t love Mr. O in a tuxedo. He had to wear one for all of his choir concerts in college, and it’s just not him; he’s too low-key of a guy to really rock such a formal outfit. On the other hand, I think he looks absolutely dashing in a suit, so it was really a no-brainer.
At first, we opted for black suits, because I figured a black suit is timeless. I also knew that at least half of our groomsmen already owned one, and I wanted to make it convenient for them. Then, after I chose black, I started fussing and worrying that maybe charcoal gray would have been a better choice; maybe it would offset the bridesmaids’ red dresses better, maybe it would be more stylish… Read more…
