Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.
About Mrs. Pretzel

The Murder of Rainbow Brite

May 4th, 2010 @ 11:05 am by Mrs. Pretzel

We’ve got color in our wedding—lots and lots of color. Five official wedding colors to be exact. I’ve been sure to check in with Mr Pretzel on numerous occasions to make sure he is as happy with our bright color palette as I am.

Every time, he sets my fears at ease and tells me that he loves the bright pops of color that we’ve incorporated into our wedding and he trusts my “color discretion”. *whew* However, I realized this weekend that that trust doesn’t extend to the decorating of our townhouse. *Uttt-Ohhh*

I had a bunch of girlfriends over for some fabric and paper flower crafting. We were discussing the use of color in the Pretzels’ new house. Mr Pretzel was making us homemade gourmet pizza (YUM) and overheard our conversation. He said, “But you wanna make the house look like the crime scene of Rainbow Brite’s murder!”

Oh… ummm… yeah… probably guilty as charged. Mr Pretzel and I love bright color but we really need to be careful with balance. Currently our townhouse has a lot of brown black and grey. We have some green and orange accents but overall the townhouse looks like a bachelor pad. When we registered at Macy’s we selected items that would provide a bright dash of color to offset all of the neutral colors.

Like Miss Frog, I have an Amazon registry. I love the universal registry button and have added items from Anthropology, Urban Outfitters, Pampered Chef, Lowes, and a whole host of other online merchants. I am resisting adding Etsy items, but soon may crumble.

Unlike our Macy’s registering where we did it together in the store, I’ve been adding things to the Amazon registry on my own and at my whim. Usually I send a link to Mr Pretzel in IM for him to preview but sometimes I get a little carried away in my online shopping. “It’s going to look like the Murder of Rainbow Brite” rings in the back of my head and I have to go back later and second guess our registry items.

Having three separate registries (we have a Kohls one, too) can make it hard to visualize what the sum of the items registered for will look like. After Mr Pretzel’s Rainbow Bright comment this weekend I decided to pull items off of all three of our registries into inspiration boards. You know, just to make sure we are creating a cohesive look. Mr Pretzel has veto power to exercise if he so wishes, but I’m actually pretty happy with what we have coming together.

Let’s start in the kitchen because we love to cook:

The Murder of Rainbow Brite : wedding color schemes registry seattle 38 3

Sources: Index Cutting Board Set; Le Creuset Mortar and Pestle; Herb Saver; Trifle Bowl; Fiesta Ware Salt and Pepper; Dish Towels; Spoon Rest; Cupcake carrier; Baking Dish; Le Creuset Salt Pig; Le Creuset Butter Bell; Pinch Bowls; Le Creuset Dutch Oven; Calphalon Unison Cookware

We love to entertain almost as much as we love to cook, so let’s move to the dining room:

Source: Stemless wine glasses; Vera Place-mats; Glassware; Henckel Opus flatware; Table cloth; Place-mat & Napkin set; Fiestaware- Scarlet, Chocolate, Lemongrass, Peacock

I’ve refrained from too much color in the bedroom/bathrooms:

Source: Guest Bath Set, Guest Towels, Master Bath Set, Master Towels, Hotel Collection Bedding, Ripple Ruffle Throw, Round Pin-tuck Pillow, FRED Humidifier

Finally, some items for the living areas of the house:

Source: Bird bud vase; wall bottle opener; IU vs Purdue Print; Clock; Marquee K; DeWalt Orbit Sander; Recycled “boom box”; Dyson Animal Ball Vacuum; Kate Spade Bud vase

OK, there was one time where my color passion got our of control. Urban outfitters had a cute colorful chandelier which I quickly removed from our registry once Mr Pretzel IMed me, “SERIOUSLY????!!!!???” Whoops.

I love the idea of registry inspiration boards and the flexibility of the Amazon registry but I better have Mr Pretzel check these over to make sure I’m not trying to slay Rainbow Brite in our house.

How are you ensuring a consistent vibe with your registry items?

I think that everything you registered for really works (we just received the same mortar and pestle, love it!) and I LOVE that chandelier, but unfortunately I don’t think we’d be allowed to have that in our house either - it’s so awesome though!

I love this post! And I really don’t know what Mr Pretzel’s problem is with the UO chandelier…

My fiance has an engineering degree and is a (soon-to-be) medical resident, which means black-and-white and everything-at-right-angles decor really appeals to him. Unfortunately for him, I’m a graphic designer and would paint every wall in our house a different shade from the Crayola box if I could! I feel your pain.

@Miss Scissors: I knew I could count on you to see the colorful awesome-ness!

@kristindesigner: That is Mr Pretzel’s nightmare. I can hardly say “accent wall” without him envisioning a rainbow of walls. Lol… he keeps me in check, but still lets my colorful side flourish.

The title of this post is hilarious! Do you mind sharing how you created the swatches for your color palette? Thanks!

I love hte chandaller, it would be perfect in a child’s bedroom, but yes I would never get away with it either! My man seems to think neutral (boring) colors are the way to go! I need to start filling our house with pops of color to make it more interesting!

@sunset: I downloaded a free Photoshop brush in that shape. I wish I could tell you where I got it. It has mysteriously disappeared from Photoshop on my computer too… can’t remember where I put the files… gahhh! Try searching the interwebs for fabric swatch brush.

I love Fiestaware! I started collecting the dishware sets a few years ago (Christmas gifts from my mom) and am excited to complete the collection with our wedding registry! However, I’m a lil’ extreme and instead of deciding on 4 colors, our goal is to have close to all the colors : )

I just added our butter crock to our Amazon registry….seriously, isn’t it the BEST THING EVER???
We’re doing the pops of color in the kitchen, mostly with the help of Le Cruset. Too many wonderful options…

The Kate Spade bud vases are adorable! I wanted to register for those, too, but we have no room for them. You have some really fun items!
