Hola Hive!
Ready to recap? I can’t believe it has already been over a month since our big day. We are still waiting on pro pics, but in the meantime let’s start in paradise, shall we?
Our honeymoon truly began on Sunday evening back in good old Baltimore. We had left State College in the afternoon, after saying goodbye and thank you to our guests, friends, and families. Once back home, we had some work to do before we could start having fun - we unloaded the car, finished our packing, paid some bills, and even did a quick load of laundry.
Then, the good stuff started.
Burger surprised me with a late night dinner at our favorite steakhouse. It was so nice to spend our first real quiet moments together enjoying being married to each other. And because I’m totally cheesy, I snapped this picture at dinner…
After we both enjoyed our amazing steaks, it was time to head home and get a few hours of sleep before our early morning flight. A mere 12 hours later, we were in Cancun, and we couldn’t wait to get to our resort!

We pulled up to our resort, Dreams Riviera Cancun, and we felt like we had died and gone to heaven. It was gorgeous! This is what we walked in to:

LOVE.
We walked up to the desk, and a really sweet girl named Mayra started checking us in. We must have been beaming as she handed over the welcome glasses of champagne, because she asked if we were honeymooners. As soon as we both answered yes, without missing a beat Mayra said, “Congratulations! Just to let you know, we’re running a special right now (at this point I’m thinking she’s going to offer us a massage package or something)… You can transfer to our sister resort, Secrets Maroma Beach - an adults only hotel, free of charge. But there are only four rooms left!”
Dumbfounded, we looked at each other then back at Mayra. “But why?” She went on to explain that Dreams is a family-friendly resort (which we knew), and that a few couples had complained about all of the small children around, being that it was a holiday week and all.
We quickly called Burger’s aunt (our travel agent), and she gave us the go ahead, saying that we would love it, and that the move would be considered an upgrade. A few minutes later, the people at Dreams had worked their magic and were putting us back into a cab to Secrets! I think we held our breath the whole way there, hoping that we hadn’t just made a big mistake…
When we got to Secrets, we were speechless. Never having been to an adults-only resort, we were sold at moment one - everything oozed elegance; it was wonderful.

Here are some shots of our awesome room.
After doing a little happy dance and raiding the mini fridge, we got settled in and headed to the pool!
After a bit of lounging, we headed to our first of many delish dinners, complete with a special honeymoon dessert.
After sleeping in nice and late, we spent day 2 of our honeymoon doing much of the same - lounging, eating, drinking, and loving every second of married life.
Day 3 got a bit more exciting. We decided to adventure to nearby Playa del Carmen (a $10 cab ride down the road) and take the ferry boat over to the beautiful island of Cozumel.
Once we finally boarded, we were greeted by yummy drinks and snacks as well as some amazing entertainment! I had never heard Santana’s Oye Como Va, but it quickly became the song of our trip - we heard it everywhere, and we love it!
A quick 45 minutes later (it really didn’t seem that long, but it was!), we were in gorgeous Cozumel!
Cozumel is an amazing place. It’s filled with lots of natural beaches and a population of people that have lived on the island for centuries. We even learned that Donald Trump had attempted to purchase the north end of the island, and the Mexican government had denied him! Good for them.
Our hotel’s Apple representative had told us about different options for touring the island—guided bus packages, jeep tours, car rentals, etc. But the thing that had us really interested was the idea of renting mopeds and having a private day free of other tourists.
Cozumel Tip: if you’re looking to rent a moped, shop around! You can rent them in Playa del Carmen or once you get over to the island. We were silly and rented from the first place we stopped in Playa (because they told us they would be all sold out once we got over to the island), paying more than some other people we met - also, we let them talk us into renting two, saying that we were too heavy for one. This was a lie. We ended up wasting the cash and just taking one bike on our trip so that we could talk to each other. This was the best decision ever! So ladies, haggle for good prices and only get one moped (seriously we saw people who probably weighed 400+ pounds together on these things doing just fine!)! You live and you learn, right?
We picked up our bike around the San Miguel point on the map below. We drove leisurely (and sometimes really, really fast, courtesy of Burger), toward Chankanaab, around the southern tip of the island, and eventually we cut back through the middle of the island on Cross Island Road.

We made a few stops along the way at beaches and little bars on the side of the road. I can honestly say it was one of the best days of my life.
(yes, it was as good as it looks)
We took lots of video with our FlipHD (a gift off our registry!), and (as you can probably tell), took a million pictures.
We eventually made our way around the island, turned in our bike, walked around downtown Cozumel, and then boarded one of the evening boats back to Playa. We were exhausted, but in a really good way.
Next up, a birthday and a fun night out!
*A special thank you to WB member thefuturemrsjewell who suggested this title a long, long time ago! I didn’t forget, and I think it’s perfect for honeymoon recaps!
