Bridal Beauty: The Face

May 4th, 2010 @ 5:17 pm by Mrs. Seashell

I’m going to brag a teeny tiny bit—I have great skin. I know—I’m lucky. I know this because it hasn’t always been that way. About 8 years ago I had what I call the “facial that changed my life”. No joke.

The aesthetician informed me that I had very sensitive skin. I had no idea! I would get an ever-so-slight red blemish and go nuts picking at my face and rubbing it down with harsh products full of chemicals and exfoliants.

During the facial I was advised to try a simple, natural, facial cleanser. I promptly went to my local Whole Foods and picked up a bottle of Jason Natural Cosmetics Super-C Cleanser Gentle Facial Wash. Honestly, I chose it only because it looked “nice enough”.

And lucky me - I swear by it 8 years later! And better yet, this is ALL I use! Seriously, no toner, moisturizer, nada. For my skin, it’s all about simplicity. Most. random. find. ever. And I haven’t had a breakout since.

How did you discover your beauty secrets? Do you swear by a single product?

Im going out to get that tonight!!! I had fairly good skin in high school, but ive always had big pores (which drives me nuts!). I get breakouts every couple of weeks, and I hate it. I have insanely sensative skin so I feel like most everything irritates it. Ive been going to the dermatologist regularly and we have still not found a combination of things that will work. :( I am SOO trying this Jason product!!!

I have been pretty lucky with my skin too and I swear by Philosophy Purity face wash. But I always use moisturizer w/SPF - I don’t want wrinkles down the road!

FYI - Target now carries Jason (and a lot of other natural products too!).

I love the Jason Hyper-C serum. Will have to give the cleanser a go now too!

I am a one product girl too Miss Seashell, except mine is Kiss My Face Organic Soy Bar. Swear by it. Never have breakouts. Never use toner (actually don’t even know what that is). :)

My secret is baby wipes! I haven’t had a single pimple since I started using baby wipes with aloe in them. Cheapest face wash ever and super easy as well! My mom heard it on Oprah or something and I haven’t looked back. :)

I have pretty good skin too. I had my boudoir photo shoot a couple of weeks ago and went to the place with no makeup, had just washed my face and put moisturizer on. The makeup artist said to me “are you serious, you have nothing on your skin right now?” now she wants to use me as a model in some of her photo shoots.

I’m VERY picky about my skin b/c it is also sensitive. I SWEAR BY CeraVe cleanser and moisturizer. It’s awesome! The cleanser is like a lotion. Found at any local CVS, Rite Aid, etc.

Glycolic acid pads (15%) changed my life, and my seriously acne prone skin. Twice a week, forever. :)

Ok this may be a little gross, but I use Seabreeze on my back to keep away the bacne! I run and workout 5 days a week so I get super sweaty and this helps keep my back looking like I don’t sweat a drop!

@vistagirl: Good call - I have SPF in my make up. Fingers crossed that’s giving me enough protection!

Great post! I’m amazed by your one product regimen. The product that changed everything for me was my Clarisonic…oh how I love thee.

I read about Vaseline on blemishes on Weddingbee, and I’ve tried it on the one or two that I get that time of the month; it has really helped!

I’m also a big fan of Oil of Olay moisturizer. Their non-SPF lotion for bed time and the SPF lotion for day time are the only products I swear by (I tend to rotate other beauty products/brands).

I’m with Miss Frog - my Clarisonic Mia was the best investment I’ve ever made for my skin! It exfoliates, which stops blemishes from developing, but it’s gentle so it doesn’t irritate my super sensitive skin. I LOVE it!!!

No moisturizer?? That is unheard of for my skin. Good find!

I use Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil face wash, and the combination of castile soap and tea tree oil does wonders for my skin - it feels clean, but not overly stripped. When my skin is feeling dry and flaky (during the winter), I make a scrub with olive oil, honey, and sugar that immediately gets rid of the flakey bits, but doesn’t overly break out my sensitive, acned skin.
