Mrs. Pudding's Picture
Mrs. Pudding, Greater Toronto Area/Vermont Age and Occupation: 26, High School Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Computer Engineer Engagement Date: August 2008 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Ceremony, Cultural Hall Reception About Me: Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
About Mrs. Pudding

The coin toss is a tradition that the hive has heard about before. Does this couple look familiar?

Our very own Avocados pulled off this tradition beautifully! Basically, after exiting the church, the happy couple is showered with coins by their guests. The bride and groom have to pick up all of the coins by themselves, and this is supposed to ensure the prosperity of their union.

Personal photo taken in Poland at my cousin’s wedding.

This tradition makes for some very fun pictures, and I am all for anything that will help our chances at having an economically sound marriage. :P

Are there any other cultural traditions out there that incorporate coins, or are meant to predict good fortune for the bride and groom?

Won’t that hurt if you get hit with a quarter or something? But, it does look really fun!

@SummerCamp: @Goldilocks1107: That’s a valid question! Most people throw pennies, and that actual throw is more or a gentle toss….I have yet to hear of someone getting injured :P

This reminds me of 52 pick up. Lol. Which is actually a Christmas traction in my family. Whoever can pick up 52 cards first wins!

Miss Pudding I love how you have all these wonderful wedding traditions, thanks for sharing them with us!

ooh, ooh! we’re incorporating arras (13 coins) into our ceremony. it’s a mexican tradition where the groom gifts the bride with these coins to symbolize his commitment to provide for their new family. i’ve read that the couple can also pass the coins back and forth to each other to symbolize sharing their wealth with and providing for each other. other bees have blogged about this tradition too (can’t really remember which ones off the top of my head). but it’s a really popular tradition within mexican cultures. the coins we are using were given to me by my grandparents - they’re the same exact coins they used when they got married 60 years ago! :)

This looks fun, so long as you are not hit with any of them. :)
