About Mrs. Starfish

How did I find Weddingbee?
Right after Mr. Starfish proposed, I turned to the internet to start researching. I was trying to find as much information as possible on a Newport wedding and I stumbled across Mrs. Corn’s blog on Weddingbee. It was the first time I had read a wedding blog and I was hooked! It took me a while to figure out the site, but soon I was learning about the wonderful world of DIY, terms like MIL, BIL, and the likes, amazing stores like Paper Source, and most importantly, I found a place that was had an awesome and welcoming community.

My application Story:
As soon as I found Weddingbee, I pretty much started my own blog. I thought it would be a fun way to document the experience and share fun ideas. We have had a pretty long engagement—two years, to be exact. So after 16 months of blogging I was deciding whether or not to apply. It was the eight month mark—the earliest you can apply, and I was debating on whether or not to send in the application. Then I heard the Sea Creature Generation was coming out and I knew I had to apply. I always hoped if I were a bee that I’d get to be Miss Starfish.

I sent in my application and was expecting I wouldn’t hear for a while. I heard it can take a while to hear back, since they get so many applications. I was so excited when I got my acceptance email from Pengy! It seemed pretty sudden and I wasn’t expecting the yes. The Sea Creatures weren’t even out yet! I had my first bridezilla moment and asked Pengy if I could hold off on being announced after the Sea Creatures came out. Then Mr. Starfish came home and took me out to celebrate. I was so excited when the new generation came out and Starfish was an option!

Why Blog?
When I first got engaged all I could talk about was weddings. Literally. I was driving my family and friends crazy. No matter what the conversation was about, I somehow found a way to turn it into a wedding convo.

After a few comments, I decided I needed to relax. But I was just so excited, I couldn’t hold it in. But I found Weddingbee, a bride’s haven. A place where you can go on and on about weddings and other people not only listen, but are excited to hear about it! I found my outlet, and my family and friends had me back with much less wedding talk. It was a win-win for all.

Weddingbee, my friends and family appreciate you more than they’ll ever know! Now if only I can find a similar community for houses, we’d be all set. I have a feeling people don’t care about our plumbing and floor issues.

Why Miss Starfish?
Well, if you haven’t guessed it by now, our wedding has a bit of a starfish theme! So, it was an obvious choice.

On being a Weddingbee blogger:
Blogging for the ‘Bee is something that I love! It’s so fun to share our wedding ideas and plans. But it’s even better to have a group of creative people give ideas that are new or enhance these ideas and plans. I’ve gotten some amazing ideas from comments and love the feedback.

I blogged for a while before becoming a Bee. My first posts were more journal-like and when I decided I wanted to be a bee, I read through some of my favorite bees’ posts to get an idea of different writing styles. I realized If I wanted to be a bee, I’d have to write for an audience. I love the way the bees engage their audience. At the end of most posts, there is a question, which creates dialogue and provides great feedback. I’ve gotten so many amazing responses from my posts that have been super helpful in planning.

I have love being a bee, but I do recommend looking into the future and seeing if you have time for such a large commitment. Since we recently bought a house, I don’t have as much time for blogging. We closed on our house the same month I was introduced. Life’s pretty hectic and it takes time to write posts. I feel bad if I don’t have time to respond to comments, but I always go back and answer. If you plan to apply think about how much time you have to dedicate to blogging! :)
