About Mrs. Starfish

Incredible Edibles

May 5th, 2010 @ 1:24 pm by Mrs. Starfish

The OOT Bags have been a big item on our to-do list that has been pushed off in the planning. I have big ideas for these little bags. After reading Mrs. Lemon’s post, I knew I wanted to include lots of snacks for all of our OOT guests. Every guest is from OOT and many will be driving close to 5 hours or flying in to get to the wedding. I want to make sure they feel welcome right from the moment they arrive at their hotel.

I’ve gone back and forth on what to include. I’ve debated on RI treats or NE treats or going with our navy and white color scheme, but then we kept finding fun nautical/shore treats and decided to go with a nautical theme. Now we just need to narrow down exactly what will go into these bags. We know the basics, such as a welcome letter, wedding information, area information, water bottles, and maybe postcards, but we’ve found an overflow of ideas on the snack front.

An obvious choice for us is Starfish Cookies! Starfish Mom has already offered to make them using her famous sugar cookie recipe.

Dylan’s Candy Bar has original Swedish fish and mixed Swedish fish, a classic and fun twist. I wonder if Costco sells these? Incredible Edibles : wedding favors food newport Dsc0229

We know for sure we will be getting Goldfish, as they can be bought in bulk at large discount stores, such as Costco, and I love the way Mrs. Jelly Beans packaged them for her guests.

Incredible Edibles : wedding favors food newport Mwd1032 I’m not really a fan of Salt Water Taffy, but I love these favors from The Original Fudge Kitchen via Martha Stewart. The Jersey Shore is Mr. S’s home, where Salt Water Taffy is a staple, so these would be a fun nod to where he grew up.

And Lobsters are a well known favorite in Boston, so these lollipops from Ju-C Suckers via Martha Stewart, would be a fun nod to my hometown, while sticking to the nautical theme.

And from my Shuckie post, I think you can tell I love these cookies.

Newport Chocolates has amazing nautical chocolates in so many fun shapes that would be perfect. They are so adorable, but I’ve always wanted to try chocolate making, so I think this would be a fun DIY project!

Now we just need to narrow it down. Which treats would you enjoy most? Do you know of any other fun nautical themed treats?

So many yummy options. You can’t pick wrong! I’d choose a price limit on each bag and choose snacks accordingly. :-)

Were I a guest, I would want the cookies & the goldfish crackers the most. They seem the most filling too, and who knows when I’ll get hungry! Everything looks so fun though.

Love the theme, I would stick with the salty in the goldfish crackers (and the price) and homemade cookies! Sweet & Salty…possibly throw in a few pieces of homemade chocolate and call it good!

We are doing something very similiar. This site: http://www.candywarehouse.com/luaucandy.html?page= all has a lot of beachy candy at a reasonable price. I love the idea of salt water taffies and the goldfish. We are from south jersey so we may throw in some caramel popcorn. We are doing a donation as a favor but I’m going to be making starfish and shell chocolates and attach a note to it to let our guests know that a donation was given in their name.

Everything looks tasty! I aggree with Miss Sewing, some salty and savory additions would probably be good…candy is great and fun but something a little more substantial would probably be a good addition as a snack.

Mmmmmm, yum! I vote for the goldfish, the gummy candies and the cookies…Those would be my faves to get as a guest! Although, I do love saltwater taffy but prolly not as big a crowd-pleaser as the other stuff…

I’m a fan of going with sweet, salty and chewy. So you can have the cookies, the goldfish crackers and the swedish fish. Maybe save the others for a candy buffet or favors?

+1 to super-local taffy (in flavors you actually like, of course)

We made our own nautical chocolates for a friend’s beach wedding! You can get the molds at most craft stores and it was super easy.

@Miss Sewing: I’d love to have them all, but the budget doesnt like that idea!
@sunnydebs: Thats a great diea, I havent really priced most items out yet.
@Hola13:that just made my decision harder! I like the lobster gummys!
@CaligirlSM: I considered doing a candy buffet because we came up with so many ideas, but again budget isnt liking that. We need to trim the ideas to save on costs unfortunately. It would be so fun to have a nautical candy bar!

Um ALL of them. I say 1 salty, 1 sweet. Maybe to stay w/in budget, do the Goldfish crackers and the cheapest cookie/chocolate option. (The lobster pops and Swedish fish-nom-are great though.) I love saltwater taffy –it’s what they put on our pillow in our honeymoon suite at The Drake (which in Chicago, so I don’t get the connection.) Oh don’t ask me, I love it all!
