About Mrs. Pin Cushion

My chilly November morning had been filled following the clues of a scavenger hunt, with my final clue leading me to the Lincoln Memorial. I then began to walk up the long steps of the monument. I didn’t know what I should be looking for, and so with each step, I peered around suspiciously, waiting for something or someone to appear.

POP Goes the Question - The Conclusion : wedding oakland proposal 1 1

When I finally made it near the top, I looked up to see Mr. Pin Cushion walking through the crowd towards me. He had transformed since I last saw him, and was wearing a suit. As he walked down to me, his dress shoes and the cold marble steps made for a bad combination, and he nearly slipped (this story would probably have a different ending if he had fallen).

Before I knew it, Mr. PC was standing on the step above me. And he got down on one knee. And he told me wonderful things (that I only wished I could remember [I curse thee, brain]). And then he brought out a beautiful ring and asked me if I wanted to go get some fried chicken for lunch. Nah, not really. Mr. PC would never do that to me. He knows I hate fried chicken. What he did ask was if I would be his wife. To which I cried, and managed to croak out a “yes.”

For your viewing pleasure, the video of the proposal is below. Mr. Pin-ster had asked our dear friend to assist him with the set-up, so she was there to capture the moment on video. The good stuff starts around minute 3 when I first see Mr. Pin Cushion, so feel free to skip ahead (unless you want to watch me walk up the steps for 2 1/2 minutes, looking concerned and perplexed [in which case, be my guest]). You can’t hear much in the video, so feel free to supplement it with the dialogue of your favorite romantic movie. Sleepless in Seattle would work. As would The Princess Bride. (But if you prefer the romance between Mel Gibson and freedom in Braveheart, go right ahead.)

Post proposal, we snuck in a few photos. If you get squirmy with seeing other people snuggling, you should avert your eyes now. And if that’s the case, then I hope for your sake you didn’t watch the above video. (All photos are our own.)

Mr. PC’s face is completely overcome with emotion, though he still manages to look dapper with his hand in his pocket. Suave.

Please don’t ask me about my alien fingers. It’s a sensitive subject.

After all the excitement, we realized we were starving. We headed over to the McDonald’s in the Air & Space Museum to celebrate over a chocolate milkshake!

We asked a nice gentleman to take our picture, explaining that we had just gotten engaged.
I don’t think he believed us.

Don’t tell me that we’re the only ones who had a non-traditional way to celebrate their engagement! What did you and your love do to celebrate when you got engaged?

awww what a cute video ( I watched the whole thing, hey, I had to set the scene properly). No fried chicken!! Gasp I think that may have possibly made me happier than a ring, presenting me with a big bucket o’chicken (slight exaggeration), but I love it that much!

This is such a fabulous story! We have video too, but not as clear, since the camera was set atop a crooked tree stump. =)

We were on vacation in San Francisco, so after he proposed, we went and had ice cream sundaes at Ghirardelli Square, followed by clam chowder at the pier! =) But a Mikey D’s milkshake sounds delicious, too!

I love your story!!! It’s so cute, you both look so happy.

We got engaged while we were walking our dog and celebrated with a crappy bottle of wine because all stores were closed. We woke up the next day with the worst hangover and had to have McDonald’s to feel better!!!

My husband proposed to me at his house, and then we went to Waffle House to celebrate!! I consider that to be on the same level as McD’s. :)

That is adorable! I wish I had a video of my proposal. My fiance proposed in the middle of IKEA, so when it was over… we kept shopping haha. I wanted to leave and celebrate, but we had driven hours to get there, so we REALLY needed to continue!

Ahhh! So romantic! Also, so confusing! I was reading this, daydreaming of the day when my sweetie will propose, and could have sworn that I misread the title of the video. SURELY it didn’t *really* say “…proposes to Kendra”. Surely I was reading it wrong! Surely I was just inserting *my* name there ’cause it’s what I wanted to see! Wait, you mean, it *actually* says Kendra? What?

So, now, I *really* can’t wait to see all your stationary goods (so that I can mentally replace “Chris” with “Dan”….)

P.S. You have an awesome name. High five for awesome and uncommon names!

My fiance did the cliche thing and proposed on Christmas Day in our apartment [totally perfect because he knew I'd be a mess if it was done in public]. We celebrated over snowman shaped egg-in-a-hole breakfast and a visit to his family [who had NO idea he had just proposed!]

So sweet… I watched the whole video, Had to set the stage.

My honey and went to Denny’s and got ice cream. We were on the boardwalk… plenty of other things to celebrate and we pick Denny’s!

I love your proposal story! My fiance proposed in a pumpkin patch on a farm. Right after we got engaged we bought our pumpkins (including the one my ring was sitting on of course!) and headed right over to the wine-tasting barn to celebrate…followed by pizza and board games at home that night!
