About Mrs. Lace

Think of the Children!

May 5th, 2010 @ 5:07 pm by Mrs. Lace

I’ve heard that there are some weddings where children aren’t allowed to attend for various reasons. I remember my brother once being invited to a wedding where children weren’t allowed and Mr. Lace and I got to babysit my nephew. However, for us, that was never an issue. We love children and know lots of families so we couldn’t imagine NOT having children at our wedding.

In fact, in our RSVPs, we were surprised that some families chose NOT to bring their children with them to our wedding. Regardless, we’ll have about 30 children at our wedding and as a teacher, I know that planning ahead makes a world of difference. I’d prefer not to have bored children, or worse yet, children running amok at our venue. So, I decided to follow in the footsteps of many wise brides and make an activity book for the children attending our wedding. I COULD have downloaded the many activity books that are out there in the Internet, but that would be way too easy. I HAD to make my own.

The cover:

Hopefully, some kind soul sitting with the children will play a few rounds of tic-tac-toe with them.

My students LOVE word searches so I had to throw one in.

A word unscramble for those who like rearranging words.

I’m sure you noticed some coloring pages interspersed in there. I’ll explain the plethora of Disney coloring pages in an upcoming post… if you haven’t figured it out already! :) In addition to the activity book, I included Mad Libs for older kids, as well as crayons and a pencil.

Are you inviting kids to the wedding? Do you plan to have any activities especially for the kiddos?

So very cute! Will you be packaging the materials individually, or in buckets or something like that on the tables? Another cute thing could be a scavenger hunt list.

These are cute! I made activity placemats for the kids and they were a hit. I’m sure the kids at your wedding will love the books!

I LOVE these!! And as a fellow teacher, I totally agree — you have to stay one step ahead of those kiddos. Bored kids = no fun. :)

I was in a wedding in January and the bride had coloring pages/crayons/Happy Meal toy-ish things for the kiddos. She had them on a table towards the back so that parents could send their kids there if they wanted to, while still keeping their eye on them. It was a huge hit and I’m sure yours will be too!

I planned on buying activity books to keep in a storage container, but I LOVE the idea of making it my own, might just have to make it a DIY project and relate it to weddings, thanks!

If we were having kids at the wedding I’d DEFINITELY be including entertainment. Excellent work, Lace!

@Coffeecake: Ooh I’ve seen those I Spy things that are super cute. I am planning on putting them into kraft paper bags with the other goodies. I’ll try to take a photo of it after I get the bags!

@Mrs. Deviled Egg: Oh placemats are always so much fun. How did you print them?

@rustic_2010_bride: Haha! In this economy and the way education is, I find myself saying this pretty OFTEN! :)

@Miss Stargazer: @rawrkitty1022: @Mrs. Pug: A good teacher is a prepared teacher. :) I thought of all the weddings I went to as a kid and how BORED I was. :)

@piglet_625: I’ve seen the “kids table” and love it, but we won’t have room for that. :( The kids will have to do these at their tables.

@Cornhusker: Everytime I saw dollar coloring book/activity books, I was so tempted to just buy them, but I saved a lot of money this way.

We have 5 combined so yes. However we were debating on only having our children there and having the rest of the family’s children there. I think we’re going to go ahead and have them there.
We are going to put together some activity books and include small boxes of crayons. If the number of children is low we’re thinking about making them little goody bags with stuff to do, which we’re doing for ours anyways. One of our fun things we’re doing is having paper table covers and then we’re providing different shades of blue and green crayons on all the tables. I mean who doesn’t love to doodle and color? I know I do!

i was having a conversation with my mom today about having activities for the children! my mom thinks we shoul hire a babysitter for the reception, but i dont think its a very good idea. If the parents dont want to watch their own children then they should leave them home! Im planning on making an activity book somehow!

I totally dig it! I’ve been working on my own books too. I think we’ll only have about 10 kids though. I want more! haha
