A Trip with My Honey

May 6th, 2010 @ 10:43 am by Mrs. Lace

Mr. Lace and I love going to Disneyland together. He only lives 15 minutes away so it’s an easy trip for us. Although we would’ve loved getting season passes (and we were tempted to a few times), we knew it wouldn’t be worth it for us. We opted for the Costco four-pack of tickets and went at least 10 times in the first two years that we dated.

Don’t laugh. That’s one of my highest scores!

A Trip with My Honey : wedding honeymoon pasadena Buzzlig buzzlig

Well, we got the itch. After going to Disneyland so many times in such a short amount of time, we started dreaming big.

We wanted to go to the Mothership — Disney World. I’d been in fourth grade with my family, but remember very little of the trip except what I saw in old photos. Mr. Lace had never been. We never had the chance to go.

So, when a friend asked us about where we’d honeymoon, we looked at each other and it was decided — we were going to Disney World!

I was super excited. Mr. Lace was super excited. That’s all that should matter right? Right. Well, then, why did I want to talk less and less about our honeymoon every time anyone asked?

Typical Conversation #1

Well-meaning friend (WMF): So… where are you guys going on your honeymoon?

Miss Lace: We’re actually going to Disney World!

WMF: (faking an excited smile) Oooohhh.

Miss Lace: (awkward smile and feeling terrible)

Typical Conversation #2 - modified to adjust for WMF reaction

WMF: So… where are you guys going on your honeymoon?

Miss Lace: Well, we’ve always really want to go to Disney World.

WMF: Disney World? (snicker) Aren’t you guys a little old for that?

Typical Conversation #3 - further modified to adjust for WMF reaction

WMF: So… where are you guys going on your honeymoon?

Miss Lace: We really love Disneyland so we’re planning on going to Disney World.

WMF: Oh… is that all? Maybe you should go somewhere else too!

It’s to the point where I don’t really want to talk about the honeymoon with anyone even though I’m totally excited about it. I won’t even dare mention that fact that I was hoping to go to Harry Potter Land! Again, everyone is super well-meaning and suggested going on cruises, visiting Miami, flying up to New York afterwards and even driving cross country to extend our trip and visit different cities along the way. And it’s true, there are tons of trips and vacations that Mr. Lace and I hope to take someday, but for us, Disney World is it. It’s the destination and not some stop on the way to our real honeymoon.

Where are you going on your honeymoon? Did anyone politely dislike your honeymoon idea?

I love DisneyWorld. Mr S and I have gone twice and love it. We considered it for our honeymoon and got the same reactions. Unfortuantely we cant go due to time off. You are going to have a blast! If you need any recommendations let me know. The food is amazing there, I especially love Le Cellier in Epcot. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had!

Don’t listen to them! When else do you have a chance to spend a lot of money on a trip that you really want to take?? We spend so much time doing “adult” things and being “grown ups” I think your honeymoon is exactly where you should play!! Besides, it has special meaning for the two of you. It sounds like the PERFECT choice!

People ask us all the time where we’re going on our honeymoon (we haven’t yet decided) and part of me always wants to say “that’s a little personal.” haha. People are more interested in the honeymoon than the details of the actual wedding. Weird.

PS, I’m excited to see the new Harry Potter theme park, too. =)

We’re going to Disney World! I’ve been twice, and he’s never been, so I’m excited to go together for our Honeymoon :) We’re also going to Universal Studios as well, and plan on visiting everything in Disney World during the week we’re there.

My parents went to Disney World on their was the main event of my bachelorette party weekend. Some of my friends thought I was crazy too, many awkward stares. And don’t feel bad about the Harry Potter land, my mom is coming to visit me specifically to go there in October!

Two of my cousins went to Disneyworld for their honeymoons (not to each other, I”m not from WV). (To WVians… I was just kidding. seriously). Also one of my friends got married/had her honeymoon there last year. So, it doesn’t sound strange at all to me!

Disney World is awesome! I have been with my family many times throughout the years, and just introduced my fiance to the gloriousness that is Disney right before we got engaged in December (and we’re already itching to go back!). You will have so much fun, and yes, while you may be 29 already, you will still become a little kid when you walk down Main Street USA! Don’t let the nay sayers drain your excitement. I hope you have fun and enjoy every minute of it. (Though did you think of doing a Disney cruise is addition? I think they offer packages with cruise + park, but I don’t remember. Plus I know budget is always a factor.)

We’re going to DisneyWorld too and get the same reaction from people. That’s where we got engaged, and we love it there, so it’s perfect! People still think it’s not enough or too childish though.

Oops, half my comment got lost. What I meant to say was that my parents went there for their honeymoon, which is partly why I decided to go there for my bachelorette.

ohhh, I am so excited about the Harry Potter Theme Park too! My bridesmaids and I are planing to go next year because Mr. Flutterby isn’t too keen on theme parks. OH, well, his loss.. Now, give me my Wand!

Enjoy your honeymoon! that is what it is YOUR honeymoon, don’t let anyone bring you down. If you want to Go see the Mouse… Go see the Mouse!

We are going to Gatlinburg, TN. I love the Smokey Mountains and I want to have him experience something I truely love. It will be beautiful as it is the start of the change of season. However, we have gotten some grief about it as I grew up in Middle TN, so some say I am just going to hang out with friends. NOPE. Not planning on seeing anyone … just us, the mountains, a hot tub and a bottle of wine.

I hear ya… we are planning a Seattle/Vancouver honeymoon. We LOVE to be outside & exploring. We know it won’t be perfect weather, but it’s what we want to do. I’ve actually had someone ask, and when I told them Seattle/Vancouver they looked at me SO confused “Really? Are you sure? You should go to Disney instead.” No joke!

Disneyland is totally our back-up plan! You are never too old to enjoy Disney. My parents went to Disney World for their 25th wedding anniversary and absolutely loved it.

Um, hello, Disney World is awesome. Anyone who thinks otherwise has clearly not done it right! The FILs are Disney Vacation Club members so we’re lucky enough to go often. Definitely stay in one of the Disney Resorts!
