Mrs. Cola's Picture
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and Promotions Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior Designer Engagement Date: March 5, 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA About Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
About Mrs. Cola

Like the need for fun/silly photographs, for example.

Mr. Cola and I were lying in bed, talking the other night about our wedding day schedule, and it came up that he has to take pictures with the groomsmen before our first look. I reminded him that he needed to remember to get a shot taken of all the guys jumping in the air. Sort of like this:

He just sort of laughed and said, “that sounds dumb.”

I then reminded him of the deal we made, back when we couldn’t find any cute sage green argyle socks to do a sock photo with. He had already agreed to do a jumping shot, in exchange for not doing a sock photo, like this one:

He REALLY thinks the matching socks pictures are silly, even though I love them. He honestly couldn’t care less about any of our wedding pictures (and would be happy not to do any at all), so a good compromise was to just do the jumping picture instead.

But when I reminded him of this, you want to know what his response was?

“Why don’t we just throw some socks up in the air, then you’d have the best of both pictures, and I wouldn’t have to be in any of them. Yeah, that’s what we should do! I bet that picture would knock people’s socks off!”

Sigh. There are just some wedding things that guys will never understand. In Mr. Cola’s case, it’s cutesy pictures.

Are there some wedding rituals, trends or traditions that your fiance doesn’t embrace or understand?

Ha! You should take a picture like that, just to amuse him. Are there any pics he wants, like Abbey Road pics or anything?

I can see how some styles of pics might be someone’s style. I second Coffeecake - are there any kinds that he does like? Or is he just not into any photographs at all?

The sock thing he suggested did make me laugh though. :)

might *not* be someone’s style. I think they’re cute though!

@Coffeecake and @jduck84: Nope, there are really no pictures he likes. Or at least not any pictures with himself in them.

After dating for over 7 years now, we only have a handful of pictures of the two of us together that aren’t “stand close and hold out the camera ourselves,” which usually result in the tops of our heads being cut off! He didn’t even want to do engagement pictures, and I was ok with that, if we at least get some fun shots on our wedding day. But as a picture lover myself, it’s all about compromise so we both end up mostly happy!

Hah Miss Cola, I totally feel you. I wanted to spend as much as it took to have awesome pictures, he wanted cameras on the tables. I thought matching sock pictures were cute, he thinks theyre dumb. We are very much the same as you, we have almost no pictures of us together and I think its super important to get great pictures for the most important day of our lives! It’s ok, once the day comes I hope that your fiancee (and mine) just suck it up and take some fun pictures. We’ll be in too great of a mood to not do it!

My FI hates having his picture taken. And if I ever even SUGGEST that he do something specific in them, he completely shuts down. Why? “I’m not your monkey.” I’m totally dreading e-photos because I know he’ll hate them. But at least it will be our photographer and not me asking him to monkey around.

Same here. I catch him in maybe two pictures a year. When I told him our photographer was going to charge $X he thought it was a complete waste, but I reminded him of his agreement not to protest any camera advances that day - and that there was no way I was not making the most of the opportunity. Ha!

LOL… There is always going to be things that Men and women differ on. I think most men don’t understand the reason behind fun pictures until after it is all done.

MY HUSBAND IS/WAS THE EXACT SAME WAY. Basically it came down to “smile and bear it, honey.” Although we compromised and he didn’t have to “endure” getting-ready pictures of him and his friends.

I guess I’m with the guys on this one: I don’t get it. While the jumping thing is cute, I’m not sure if I would do that. The sock thing — nope. While I don’t rain on other’s parades, I do understand where the guys are coming from here.

He might surprise you! FI Hates hates hates his picture taken and was DREADING our e-pics and was dragging his heels and groaning and complaining the whole morning. Once we got in front of the camera he had a ball! He even commented after how fun it was and couldn’t wait to see the pics. He even suggested poses and locations to our photog! Plus, with all his groomsmem around, they might make it more fun for him and encourage it. You know how goofy guys get when they’re together. Goofy make f
great candid shots!

very much agreed - although usually I just sneak it in there and he loves the outcome - so I stick to it! He doesn’t seem to mind, in the end :) I say, go for those pictures, I’m sure he’ll love them in years to come!

that last picture is hilarious! my mister and i were just discussing the purpose for a bridal party and the exclusion of flower girls. i’m definitely more out of the box when it comes to our wedding but man, i’m glad he’s at least open-minded!
