About Mrs. Hermit Crab

10 gold stars if you can name the gem that this post title is from!

It is 2003. I am a shiny, new, fresh-out-of-the-box-and-ready-for-my-first-day-of-college-at-NYU-freshman as I head into my second college class EVER (Level 1 Hebrew in case you’re interested).

He is a laid back sophomore, already well versed in the language of college and jaded from a year of freshman dorms and introductory classes.

I had a crush on him from the moment I saw him. He would come around eventually.

A year and a half later, and three semesters of Hebrew class together under our belt, we ran into each other in the dining hall and decided to have lunch. Little did either of us know, but this would be only the first of many lunches, soon dinners, and eventually, daily, hanging out that would lead us here!

As a mascot at NYU (Go Violets!), I convinced Mr. Hermit Crab to come to the first basketball game that I would be performing at.

Though we were not quite dating yet, my mom was also in attendance at the game, and I think she may have kept her eye on Mr. Hermit Crab more than she watched me. I’m glad she did though, because now she can tell this little ditty: She claims to have known that Mr. Hermit Crab was the one because he brought books (nerd alert!) to the game, and would read whenever I took a break, but was glued to my performance whenever I was out on the court!

(yes, that’s actually me in that NYU Bobcat suit, posing with my Mama Hermit Crab)

One night, after an NYU dinner at the Puck building, Mr. Hermit Crab walked me to the bus stop, and just as the bus pulled up to take me home for the evening, he kissed me! He texted me not five minutes later that he couldn’t stop smiling, and neither could I. Neither of us have looked back since that night nearly five years ago!

A picture of us shortly after that wonderful night! (And yes, I did have blue streaks. :) )

How did you meet your partner? Was at it love at first, or did it develop over time (or was it a little of both!)?

1) LOVE the 2gether reference.

2) i’m a fellow redhead with a thick-rimmed-glasses-wearing fiance! and it was not quite love at first sight for us, it took a while for us to even become friends and then to start dating!

We met on MySpace (when it was cool), and we had an instant connection even though we didn’t meet/start dating in “real life” until almost 5 months later! This Sunday is our 3 year dating anniversary; two weeks shy of our wedding day!

Yay! I’m so excited to hear about your wedding! I’m another nyc bride with red hair, and my dad went to grad school at NYU, so I went to a ton of NYU basketball games throughout my childhood. Love the Bobcat! I was a “Bobcat buddy” as a kid, haha.

My FI and I met at a high school dance. He fell in love with my hair and sparkly eyeshadow immediately. I was psyched to find someone as equally shy as me, who also hated to dance. We spend the whole night talking in a corner instead. :)

What a cute story (love that you met in Hebrew class too!).

I met my now-husband online- we each had postings on two separate dating sites and responded to each other through both of them. He’s my ‘beshert’ :) Definitely meant to be!
