I'm in a Long Distance Relationship... : wedding providence venues Long Di long_di

(source)

Who knew 973 miles could feel so far? Ugh!

I was lucky enough to recently spend several uninterrupted days in Providence. I met with several of our  wedding vendors, and got to make a bunch of wedding-related purchases. It made me realize how much I miss/put on hold by being in Chicago!

Now, of course, the internet makes a world of difference but there is still something to be said for meeting with people in person. Additionally, I’ve seriously held back on shopping because shipping is such a pain! Brides who plan destination weddings: I don’t know how you do it!

These days, it’s totally common for brides to live in a different city than their wedding. I’m lucky enough to have eager Rhode Island-based family and friends to help with all things wedding related. For those of you who are planning destination weddings or don’t have an excess of extra hands, I did find an article on The Knot that was pretty helpful: Wedding Preparations: Long-Distance Planning.

How have you bridged the gap between where you live and your wedding? Has it been stressful?

Haha! Your title made me laugh out loud - I’m also in a long-distance relationship with our wedding! Luckily during the 2 times I’ve been home since being engaged, I’ve managed to book a lot of things- and family and friends on-site have been great helps - but yeah, it can be a bit tiring at times.

I’m in a totally different country and won’t get to see ANY of it (venue, church, food) until the day of the wedding. I just have to trust that my parents are making the right decisions…

I know how you feel. I am moving to south Carolina from Michigan in June. And we’re having our 2012 wedding in Michigan. Even though Im just starting my wedding preparation Im already felling the pain of planning a long distance wedding. But the good thing is my family is all there, so we will be back to visit atleast twice a year. So will just have to make thise very productive wedding visits.

Yep - I live in Washington, and the wedding is in Missouri (where I was living when he proposed). We’ve had to do our planning in chunks during visits, and thankfully, I have a lot of friends who are very happy to help me store things and suchlike.

I wouldn’t have done it any differently, though!

I’m with ya Seashell. I’m 1,376 miles away from our wedding and it’s been a constant challenge. Like you, I’m lucky to have people on the ground there that are willing to help…but no matter what, it would definitely be much easier if I were able to be there myself.

Ok- I will definitely take your 8, 750 miles and raise you another 8,000! Yes, My FH and I live in Perth Western Australia, and our wedding is in Philadelphia. I heard that if you wanted to dig through the earth from Perth, you would pretty much end up where our wedding is. Better get digging for July!

Just around 500 miles for us, but that’s plenty!

We were lucky enough to have people close to the wedding site to handle stuff that couldn’t be done online or on the phone. Plus between picking the site and the actual wedding, we knew we’d be traveling there at least twice anyway, so we tacked an extra day onto each trip and just jammed those days with as much wedding stuff as we could stand.

Of course, as far as I was concerned, if it couldn’t be done online, it didn’t need doing. But that’s me.

10,550 for us - Melbourne Aus > Manchester UK. The hardest thing has been finding vendors - thank god for the internet - and trying to decide whether you trust them and want to work with them. I just dumped out makeup girl because I was getting a bad vibe from her emails. Crazy? Possibly, but if it gives me one less thing to worry about then I’m just going with it at the moment!

Me, J and our wedding are all in one big long distance triangle.

This summer we’ll have one very full week in that city to get a whoooole bunch done a few months before the wedding. :)

Same here…we’ll have about 4 trips home between now and then and I’ve got everything super scheduled to get stuff done so we can make the most of our time. It drives me NUTS when people say “oh you have so much time” when you are like, “no I’m home for 48 hours..don’t sass, just get to work and get me an appointment! I don’t care if its 4 weeks away.”

How have I bridged the gap you ask? Two words: WEDDING. PLANNER. I never ever ever would be attempting a destination wedding without her. She is my life saver, rescue dog, coastguard, and defibrillator all in one

I live about 400 miles from our wedding destination. Email has been a lifesaver. Also, our engagement is about 2 years, so it is easy to wait until I come into town on visits to get stuff done.

You’re lucky you had a chance to get out there and have people that can help you so far away! We had to make sure to lighten our load for travelling to save space for wedding stuff. It wasn’t easy!
