I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.

I Love Lamp

May 8th, 2010 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Veggie

I have been in love with this lamp shade ever since it enticed me to enter my favorite store when we moved to Raglan about 2 years ago. It has been sitting there in the window teasing me ever since.

But wait, it has cousin. A beautiful cousin. A cousin that I must have.

I think I can. I think I can. I think I can… do these myself. Or something like them. I’m thinking cardboard instead of wood veneer would make these beauties a bit more affordable, easy, and recycled.

I certainly don’t want to take away any business from the amazingly talented kiwi who created these masterpieces, so please, someone who can afford one of these, buy one, or several. I’m sure they are much prettier and better constructed than my cardboard counterparts will be.

I’ll keep you updated.

Looks like you can use round-head fasteners to allow the pieces to move while you put it together…. I can’t wait to see if you can do it! A heavy cardstock would probably work too!

So Pretty!! Good luck constructing it yourself–that’ll be quite the project! Where will you use them?

I love something very similiar that I saw on one of the DIY networks. You can use a beach ball and unwind raffia paper, paper mache it, and deflat the beach ball. You can purchase the electric and lighting fixtures from your local lowes or home improvement store :) Love it!
