I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

A Shower for Me?

May 10th, 2010 @ 10:51 am by Mrs. Hot Wings

A Shower for Me? : wedding bridal shower invitations san diego 11 IMG_3140

Look what I got in the mail. Isn’t it weird how complaining and feeling overwhelmed can so quickly change into feeling so incredibly special and honored? Two of Mr. Hot Wings’ aunts are throwing me an “Around the Clock” themed shower.

A Shower for Me? : wedding bridal shower invitations san diego 22 IMG_3142

I’ve actually only been to one shower my entire life, and it was a couple’s shower for Mr. Hot Wings’ cousins. So after protesting having a shower for a long time, I realized that I had no idea what a shower actually entailed. Sure, I have seen pictures and read about showers in the blogosphere. Other bee brides have written about their beautiful showers as well. Showers are not part of Vietnamese culture, so my mom has no knowledge to pass on, and I’m a bit clueless.

According to the Weddingbee Wiki on Bridal Showers, a typical shower includes only women guests who are also invited to the wedding. It is typically hosted in honor of the bride. Games are played, gifts are opened, and a rehearsal bouquet is sometimes made from the ribbons and bows on gifts.

Many showers have themes. My shower has an Around the Clock theme. According to the Weddingbee Wiki on Around the Clock themed Showers, this means that each guests has been assigned a time of day, and guests are suppose to bring a gift that corresponds to that time of day. For example, Mrs Dahlia had an Around the Clock Shower thrown for her, and a guest assigned with 7AM gifted her with a breakfast in bed gift basket. For more discussion on this theme, check out this discussion on the boards.

As a bride, I know I should be prepared with a gift for the hostesses and thank you cards for gift givers. Other than what I’ve told you, I’m pretty clueless about this shower business.

So hive, please help a clueless bride out. What does a clueless bride who has very little experience with showers need to know about being showered? Hints, pointers, tips, etiquette, advice is all welcome!

An opportunity for a cute new outfit - go shopping! And I found that, too, people just wanted to hang out and celebrate this exciting time, all I had to do was show up!

I recommend showing up early to help the hostess with any last minute preparations and so you will be able to greet guests as they arrive and make all of the introductions. Also, be sure to stay after and help with the clean-up. As for shower gifts, I’m a big fan of sending a fresh flower arrangement ahead of time if it’s a shower held in a hostess’ home, or sending a bouquet the day after, to the hostesses. Who doesn’t love getting a surprise delivery from the florist????

I have been to a couple of showers and it is usually put on by the family and/or the bridesmaids. I have never seen a bride help out with setting up or anything like that. They usually just come a few mins after the rest of the guests have arrived. The bride gets taken care of during the shower and isn’t involved with any of the details. I have been to them where the bride doesn’t even know when it is going to happen and it is a surprise.

Yeah, I’m pretty shower-clueless as well, I’ve never been to one, and am not having one myself. But even without much knowledge about them, I’m sure you will have a blast at yours!

So exciting! I just got the invitation to my shower too! As the guest of honor at your shower, I don’t think you need to know much more than you already do! A hostess gift is a great gesture. Other than that, you get to wear a cute outfit, show up, and enjoy! :)

A gift for the hostess, eh? My hostess is also my bridesmaid… does this mean 2 gifts? (I am clearly just as clueless about this as you are…)
